Here I am, standing on the edge of a precipice, gazing at the cable that disappears into the distance. The mountain on the other side is covered in fynbos, but it’s hard to see where the cable is actually connected. The only thing I can see clearly is the vast gorge that lies before me. This is unlike anything I’ve ever experienced before, even more intense than skydiving.

As I stand on one of the four platforms, I feel myself becoming less dramatic. The cable is holding strong, my harness is secure, and my camera is intact. I am beginning to appreciate the excitement of soaring through the air, feeling the wind rush past me and hearing the gentle sound of the pulley on the sturdy steel above. It truly is an exhilarating experience. Below me, the Riviersonderend Gorge is a vibrant sea of green, and we have just glided past a majestic waterfall. Our friendly guides have put me at ease, as they are well-acquainted with the ropes and have done this many times before. Their infectious enthusiasm has rubbed off on me, and I now understand what the rest of my group realized the moment they stepped off the first platform – this is absolutely amazing.

As I embarked on the 4×4 drive, I bounced along the rocky road, my eyes feasting on the breathtaking beauty of the Hottentots Holland Nature Reserve. The adrenaline started to build as I approached the precarious 13-platform route. With a slide length that stretched up to 320m, it was an exhilarating adventure.

After the heart-pounding slide, I embarked on a leisurely stroll that led me back to the pick-up point. It was the perfect opportunity to relax and let the adrenaline slowly dissipate. This incredible 4-hour experience is something I have recommended to countless people.
