Willard Batteries – Creating Ambassadors for a Greener Future
Hey there! I have some exciting news to share with you. Willard Batteries and Food & Trees for Africa (FTFA) joined forces once again to make a positive impact. This time, they planted trees, and created food gardens at Windmill Park Secondary School in Boksburg, Gauteng.
FTFA is an amazing organization that focuses on food security and greening. They have been planting trees in various communities across South Africa for the past 30 years and have already planted over 4 million trees. Thanks to Willard Batteries’ generous support, they were able to bring a touch of green to an area that has been struggling with crime and poverty.
But there’s more to planting trees at schools than just making things look green. It’s a powerful way to teach important lessons about the environment and the urgent need for a greener future. Willard Batteries has been dedicated to this cause for many years, and they are determined to create a better world for all of us.
“This tree planting event is like an outdoor classroom where we can learn about nature in a hands-on way. It helps us feel connected to the environment and teaches us about our responsibility to take care of it,” said Mr. Thabo Mokgwatsana, Principal of Windmill Park Secondary School, as he opened the event.
Today’s gathering is a meaningful symbol of growth and positive change. Throughout the years, the children will care for these tiny saplings and witness their transformation into strong, thriving trees. This process teaches us about patience and shows us that it takes time to make a real difference in restoring and protecting our planet’s health for future generations.”
When we planted trees at a school in an area that needed more greenery, it gave us the perfect opportunity to teach teachers and representatives from Food & Trees for Africa about how trees can combat the increasing levels of carbon dioxide, which is a major factor in global warming. The students who were there were eager to answer the questions that Jeminiah Mkize, a facilitator from Food & Trees, asked them. She showed them how to plant and take care of the trees and food gardens.
She told us, “Having the students plant the trees and gardens themselves is a practical way to help them. It also helps them understand the idea of a ‘carbon footprint’ and how planting trees locally can make a difference in offsetting carbon emissions globally.”
The day wouldn’t have happened if it weren’t for Willard Batteries. They had a big group of enthusiastic people who were excited to help with planting trees, putting up banners, and giving treats to the students.
Corne Strydom, the Sales and Marketing Executive at AutoX, says that events like this are important because they promote teamwork and community involvement. “Students work together to dig holes, plant saplings, and water the young trees. This working together helps them feel like they’re part of a team and that they have a responsibility to their community. When kids see the impact of their hard work, it gives them the confidence to believe that they can make a positive difference, not just in their own neighborhood but in the world.”
“We at Willard are proud that our support of Food & Trees for Africa helps create an emotional connection between the children and the trees they plant. This connection is the first step in teaching them to love and care for the environment.”
When I think about how much I love my car, I can’t help but wonder if that same emotional attachment translates into a stronger commitment to taking care of the environment. It’s an interesting question, isn’t it? We hope that by nurturing a sense of responsibility in children from an early age, they will grow up to be environmentally conscious adults.
Let me tell you a bit about Willard Batteries. They’re a 100% South African battery company that people absolutely love. When it comes to car batteries, they’re the top choice for most consumers. What sets Willard Batteries apart is their commitment to making a difference in the community.
One way they do this is through their Go Green, Go Willard campaign. This initiative has been a huge success, raising funds for Food & Trees for Africa. With these funds, thousands of trees have been planted in schools and other areas across South Africa.
