What’s Happening in Cape Town This Weekend
Ah, Cape Town. The city that never sleeps! Well, maybe it does, but there’s always something exciting happening here. I’m originally from Seoul, and let me tell you, it’s a whole different ballgame. Back there, I was lost in a sea of unfamiliar words and customs, but here, I feel right at home. There’s always something going on, and I can understand and enjoy it all.
This weekend, Cape Town is really pulling out all the stops. If you’re a foodie and a drink enthusiast like me, you’re in for a treat. The city is bursting with options for every taste bud and craving. It’s a good thing Camping’s prediction of doomsday last Saturday didn’t come true. Now we can fully indulge in these delectable delights.
Hey there! I’ve got some exciting news for you. This Friday, May 27th, get ready to experience the very first Soweto Wine Festival in Gugulethu. It’s been a long time coming, and now it’s finally here!
We’ve got a fantastic venue lined up for you on the rooftop of the Gugulethu Square Mall. Don’t worry about the weather because we’ve got you covered with marquees. So rain or shine, the party is on!
We’re expecting around 2000 guests to join us for a day filled with wine, food, and live music. With over 200 wines to discover and taste, you’ll have plenty of options to find your new favorite. To satisfy your appetite, we’ve partnered with Mzoli to provide delicious food throughout the festival.
But that’s not all! As part of your ticket, you’ll have the opportunity to attend a food and wine pairing workshop with Tariro Masayiti, the talented winemaker at Nederberg. This is an experience you won’t want to miss!
Now, I know some of you might be thinking about transportation. Well, worry not! If you’re planning to fully enjoy the wines, we recommend leaving the car behind. Instead, hop on a designated minibus taxi from the V&A Waterfront. For just R40 per person return, you’ll have a convenient and safe way to travel to and from the festival.
When you arrive in Gugulethu, keep an eye out for our colorful posters displayed in the windows of local businesses. That way, you’ll know you’re in the right place to embark on this amazing wine adventure!
If you prefer grains over grapes, then head east to Sofia’s restaurant at Morgenster Wine and Olive Estate in Somerset West. It’s not every day you get to experience a beer and food pairing event in the Cape, so Chef Craig Cormack’s four-course Salt and Beer pairing is a special treat. This unique event is part of a series that explores the art of pairing salt with different flavors. And don’t worry, if you’re more into wine, there will be whiskey, champagne, and MCC dinners later in the year. But for now, feast on the delicious dishes, each perfectly complemented by a refreshing Brewers & Union beer.
Are you ready to treat yourself with some delicious food and drinks this weekend? Well, you’re in luck because the Good Food & Wine Show is coming to Cape Town! Not only will you have the opportunity to learn cooking tips from master chefs like Heston Blumenthal, but you can also satisfy your sweet tooth with a chocolate master class in the Lindt Chocolate Theatre. Plus, you’ll get to explore various stalls offering delightful dishes from all over the country. Of course, there’s plenty of wine and beer to keep the weekend in full swing. So, get ready to indulge and have a fantastic time!
Hopefully, we’ll have more exciting events next week. After a weekend of indulging in booze and chocolate, I think we all need something more active. Maybe we could try out some sports events to counteract the excessive eating and drinking?
