I want to tell you about these amazing tiny cottages that were designed and built by artist Leigh Smith. He had some help from locals Wayne Bernade and AB Ndzelani, and together they created these cozy little houses on the slopes of a forest. The best part is that they are located right next to a series of private waterfalls, so you can enjoy the peaceful sound of running water everywhere you go. Imagine sitting on the deck, sipping a cup of tea or a glass of wine, and taking in the stunning views of the surrounding plantation. It’s a truly magical experience.

Leigh has an incredible eye for beauty, and it shows in every detail of these cottages. The walls are painted a lovely olive-green color, and the kitchen is equipped with a neat gas oven and stovetop. There are pretty rugs and vintage chairs that add a boho touch to the decor. But my favorite part is the ‘living roof’ that tops off these little treasures. It’s like being wrapped up in a cozy box of wonders.

AB, one of the locals who helped build the cottages, now manages the property for Leigh. He’s incredibly helpful and will even light a fire for you when the sun goes down. He’s also happy to show you the way to the waterfalls and help you with your bags. It’s little touches like these that make your stay truly special. In my opinion, this is one of the best places to stay, and it’s also an incredible deal.

8. Melody Cottage at Swallowtail Country Estate

I want to tell you about this really neat camping and caravan site that I found right at the entrance of the village. The owner, Fritz Klaasen, just finished building the most adorable little cabin for two, and it has an amazing view of the Hogsback mountains. 9. Camelot Cottage

There’s this cute old-fashioned rondavel for two called Camelot Cottage that I think you would love. It’s located in the same lovely gardens as the Fairy Meander, and it’s only a short walk from the village center. The cottage is really cozy and has a thatched roof to keep you warm. It even has a Jetmaster for extra heat. And if you like grilling outdoors, there’s a braai area where you can do that too. You should definitely check it out at camelot-cottages.
