Step into our restaurant and you’ll be transported to a place that channels the beauty and flavors of Greece. Our charming cobalt-drenched decor and bougainvillea-festooned pergola create an enchanting atmosphere, reminiscent of the Greek Islands themselves. Whitewashed walls adorned with a map of Greece and old photos, and blue-checked tablecloths in the shaded courtyard, all add to the authentic Greek experience.

My name is Theo, and together with my wife Claudelle, we’ve brought our passion for Greek cuisine to Hermanus. After 20 years in the Gauteng restaurant industry, we made the decision to move to this seaside town and share the rich heritage of Greek food with the locals. Our mission is to not only provide delicious meals but also to support local suppliers and become an integral part of the Hermanus community.

Kalimera Hermanus

When you take a look at the menu, you’ll notice a corner with simple Greek phrases that transport you to the Mediterranean. Just seeing the word “kalimera” (which means good morning) puts you in a holiday mood. As you peruse the options, you’ll find classic starters like dolmades, spanakopita, and keftedes. These dishes are filled with flavors and traditions that have stood the test of time.

If you’re in the mood for something light, you can start with pita and tzatziki or taramasalata. Or if you’re feeling more adventurous, you can try the souvlaki skewers. They offer a variety of meats like pork, lamb, chicken, or rump steak. You can also try the yiros, which are grilled pitas filled with falafel or your choice of meats and salad. And let’s not forget about the mouthwatering Greek-style grills and seafood mains. They are a true delight for the senses.

For those who prefer vegetarian options, there’s the moussaka. It’s a flavorful dish made with layers of eggplant and potatoes, topped with a creamy bechamel sauce. It’s the perfect combination of comfort food and Mediterranean flavors.

When it comes to indulging my sweet tooth, I can’t resist the allure of syrupy pastries like baklava, kataifi, or loukoumades. For a simpler option, a bowl of creamy Greek yogurt topped with honey and nuts always hits the spot.

If you’re not a fan of retsina, don’t worry. Hermanus has an impressive wine list featuring renowned wineries from the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley, such as Creation, Benguela Cove, Hermanuspietersfontein, and Suiderkunz. You’ll also find a selection of beers from Folk & Goode and the Hermanus Brewing Company.
