A Journey of Flavors
When I visited this place on a Friday evening for dinner, I was in for a unique experience with a wide range of spices. The menus for lunch and dinner have been recently updated to offer an exciting blend of Indian and Mediterranean cuisines, inspired by Abigail’s travels to India.
My journey began with the Bo Kaap High Tea samosas. They had two delicious options – chicken, and potato with peas. Alongside the samosas were spinach and onion pakoras, served with a delightful selection of seasonal chutneys. The samosas had a wonderful blend of flavors, complemented by their crispy exterior and tender interior.
Oh boy, did those curries look and smell tempting! We had the traditional Kashmir Lamb Rogan Josh and Butter Chicken served with fragrant rice, tomato and onion salsa, coconut raita, and chili atchar. But, you know, we just couldn’t resist The Karoo Lamb. It came with biryani-style risotto, sauteed spinach, crispy kale, curry-leaf pesto, Indian dukkah, and fried shallots. And let me tell you, it did not disappoint! The flavors were out of this world.
Now, if you’re more of a burger person, you can’t go wrong with their grass-fed beef patty. It’s served with all the trimmings – burnt onion aioli, tomato, Spanish onion, local cheddar, pickles – and you can choose between fries or a house salad as a side. It’s the perfect choice for a classic, old-fashioned burger.
I have to mention the Cape Sustainable Fish as well. We tried the tuna, and it was incredible! It came with tandoori cauliflower, roasted cauliflower puree, toasted almonds, and fried shallots. Each bite was bursting with flavor.
And let’s not forget about the ambience. The Yard is located in the art-drenched Silo District, and it’s buzzing with life. Whether you’re there before or after your cultural escapades, it’s a great place to hang out and enjoy the vibe.
