So, let me share with you some of my favorite tapas spots in Cape Town. I promise you won’t be disappointed.
Did you know that the original tapas were actually slices of bread used by bar drinkers to cover their glasses and keep the flies away? The Spanish word “tapar” means “to cover,” which is how these bite-sized appetizers got their name. Back in the day, tapas were served as starters, either hot or cold, and enjoyed by eating them with your fingers or a fork.
But nowadays, the trend among friends is to order tapas as their main course. It’s like a culinary adventure where you can try a wide variety of flavors without committing to one heavy meal. It’s a win-win situation!

I want to tell you about one of the most popular restaurants in Cape Town. Everyone is buzzing about it, and for good reason. The food at Glen Foxcroft Williams’ restaurant is nothing short of incredible. He and renowned chef Scot Kirton co-own this fine-dining gem, and they’ve truly outdone themselves.
Here’s my recommendation: You should try the set menu. It’s an unbelievable deal at only R350. You get two tapas, a main course, and a dessert. Believe me, it’s worth every penny.
Let me tell you about the tapas. We started with the tuna tartare. It came with tempura avo, miso, daikon, apple, and baby gem. The flavors were so interesting and perfectly balanced. We also tried the Korean fried chicken, which was absolutely delicious. The squid with chorizo, ajo blanco, and wild garlic was a unique combination that worked incredibly well. And finally, the yellowtail ceviche with kolrabi kimchi, burnt orange, and tiger’s milk was a flavor explosion in my mouth. Every dish was carefully prepared and beautifully presented. Every bite was a delight.
The mains and desserts were just as amazing. Every dish was an experience. I can honestly say it was one of the best meals I’ve had in a long time.

As soon as you sit down at one of the communal tables and check out the daily menu, you know you’re in for a truly inspired dining experience.
This place is not just a restaurant. It’s also a deli and a cook’s supply shop, with shelves stacked to the brim with kitchen gadgets, recipe books, and all kinds of cooking gear.

As soon as you step inside, you’ll be transported to a traditional Chinese tearoom with an elegant charm. The best part? You get to witness the skilled chefs in action as they prepare your tantalizing dishes.
Now, let me share with you the ultimate Haiku experience – the Haiku Tasting Menu. Trust me, it’s worth every penny. For just R595 per person, you’ll embark on a culinary journey like no other.
First, prepare yourself for the sushi selection. It’s a parade of flavors that includes scallop yuzu sashimi, tuna tacos, and two dragon rolls. Each bite will transport you to sushi heaven.
Next up, the dumplings. You’ll be treated to a medley of both steamed and fried dumplings. The steamed selection features spicy prawn har gau, basil fish har gau, and spinach har gau. And as for the fried assortment, think lamb pot sticker, beef cha siu sou, and chicken sheng jian bao. Your taste buds will thank you.

Hey, have you been to Tjing Tjing? It’s this amazing place in Torii. I recently discovered it and let me tell you, the experience was mind-blowing.
First, let’s talk about the atmosphere. When you step into Tjing Tjing, it’s like entering a different world. The ambiance is simply captivating. The dim lighting, the cozy seating, and the traditional Japanese decor really transport you to another time and place. You can’t help but feel a sense of tranquility as you soak in the surroundings. It’s a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
Now let’s move on to the food. Tjing Tjing serves some of the most delicious Japanese dishes I’ve ever tasted. From the sushi to the ramen, every bite is a burst of flavor. The ingredients are fresh and of the highest quality, and you can really taste the difference. Whether you’re a fan of seafood or prefer something vegetarian, there’s something for everyone on the menu.
But what truly sets Tjing Tjing apart is the service. The staff is incredibly friendly and attentive. They go above and beyond to make sure you have an unforgettable dining experience. Located on the first floor of a historic building on Longmarket Street, you’ll find this charming restaurant nestled between its vegetarian counterpart, Dear Me, and the bustling Tjing Tjing rooftop bar. Torii, owned by Ilze Koekemoer, specializes in modern Asian cuisine, offering a diverse range of dishes from tataki and tempura to ramen, kimchi, and bao. It’s quite impressive that all these wonderful flavors and ingredients come out of one small kitchen!
Keeping up with the current global food trend of sharing plates, Torii’s menu focuses on smaller portions bursting with flavor. The stylish decor features navy walls with white skirtings, modern Louis Ghost chairs, and eye-catching illustrations by Jade Klara on the window blinds.
My top recommendations at Torii would be the spicy kimchi (fermented cabbage, radish, and bamboo shoots for R25), the elegant and delicate tuna tataki (R85) drizzled in ponzu, the scrumptious duck pancakes (R120), the fragrant sautéed broccoli with sesame, soy, and garlic (R56), and the intriguing beef atsui dog (R68) that offers a delightful mix of softness and crunch. For dessert, the Japanese cheesecake (R45) is a must-try. The fluffy and creamy texture is simply divine! I can’t wait to go back and sample the rest of the menu.
What sets Torii apart is the exceptional service. Sparkling and still water are complimentary, and our knowledgeable waiter, Joseph, inquired about any food intolerances, allergies, or special requests that could be communicated to chef Christi Semczyszyn.

The owner, Chef Cheyne Morrisby, is known for his incredible Asian flavors, and he’s passed on his skills to his talented cooks, John and Simon. These guys really know how to whip up some tasty dishes in the open kitchen.
When they first started out, Lucky Bao was all about their fluffy steamed buns, known as bao, which are stuffed with delicious meat and veg fillings. But now, they’ve expanded their menu to include two ramen dishes, two yakitori skewers, and even two mouthwatering desserts. Unfortunately, we were too full from all the bao and their mind-blowing wagyu burger to try any of the desserts.
If you’re wondering what to order, I suggest trying as many dishes as you can possibly fit in your belly. But if you need some help deciding, definitely go for the belly bao with pork belly, soy, peanuts, maple, and sriracha. The beef yakitori and the gyoza dumplings are also must-tries. And of course, you can’t visit Lucky Bao without trying their famous wagyu burger. It’s piled high with maple-and-soy-glazed bacon, mature boerenkaas cheese, kimchi, miso, spring onion, and a touch of bourbon, all sandwiched between a toasted Japanese milk bun.
They’ve got some pretty convenient opening times, too. Lucky Bao is open from Monday to Wednesday, 5pm to 10pm, and on Thursday to Saturday, they’re open from 12pm to 3pm and then again from 5pm to 10pm. So you can enjoy their amazing food at lunch or dinner.

I’m excited to tell you about this awesome bistro that just opened in April. It’s already becoming a favorite among locals. The vibe is laid-back and the restaurant has a really cool rustic feel. The walls are made of beautiful honey-colored wood and there’s even a one-of-a-kind Nomad world map on display. As soon as you walk in, you’ll be greeted by the friendly and efficient staff.
Let me share my recommendation. The food here is known for its unique fusion flavors and delicious cocktails, but what I really love are the gourmet tapas. They have an amazing selection, from tender roast pork belly with crackling and apple marmalade to a mouth-watering exotic mushroom risotto with Parmesan. And don’t worry, they also have vegetarian options. The tapas dishes are not only delicious, they’re also beautifully presented. You’ll definitely find something you love.
And here’s an extra treat for you: Nomad has recently introduced craft-beer lollies that are absolutely amazing. You have to try them! Owner Mohit says they’re the first of their kind in South Africa, so you’ll be able to brag to your friends.

With seating for approximately 30 people, including a long booth against the wall and additional seats at the street-facing counter, Sundoo offers a cozy ambiance. To ensure the safety of patrons dining outside, a tall Congolese doorman dressed in all black provides peace of mind against unexpected cellphone theft.
During my visit, I couldn’t help but notice two fashionable women seated across from me. It turned out that they were seasoned visitors, having dined at Sundoo three times before for what they hailed as “the best vegetarian food in Cape Town.”
Now, onto the recommendations. To start your culinary adventure, I suggest trying the wok-fried squid heads with lime, coriander, and green chili sauce. For those with a penchant for seafood, the crispy fried South Indian spiced prawn chili bites are a must-try. And don’t forget to indulge in Sundoo’s mouthwatering samoosas. 15. Maria’s TV Addiction: A Personal Journey to Break Free
I’ve never been one to shy away from a good TV show. The way it can transport you to another world, where anything is possible, has always fascinated me. But lately, I’ve come to realize that my love for TV has become more of an obsession.
It started innocently enough. I would sit down to watch one episode of my favorite show, and before I knew it, I had binge-watched an entire season. I justified it by saying that it was my way of unwinding after a long day, but deep down, I knew it was becoming a problem.
Every spare moment I had, I would find myself scrolling through Netflix, looking for my next fix. I would stay up late into the night, sacrificing sleep just to see what happened next. The characters on the screen became more real to me than the people in my own life.
After a particularly intense weekend marathon, I had a moment of clarity. I realized that I was using TV as an escape from my own problems. Instead of facing my issues head-on, I was burying myself in fictional worlds and pretending that everything was fine.
That’s when I decided to make a change. I couldn’t continue down this path of addictive TV watching. I needed to regain control of my life and break free from this cycle.
It hasn’t been easy. Breaking any addiction takes time and effort, and my TV addiction is no exception. But with each passing day, I’m learning to fill my time with other activities that bring me joy and fulfillment.
I started by setting limits on my TV watching. I now have designated times when I can indulge in my favorite shows, but outside of those times, the TV stays off. It’s been difficult, but I’m slowly regaining control over my own time and energy.

The mucver is also a must-try – it’s a deep-fried ball made with feta cheese and baby marrow, similar to falafel but with a cheesier twist. And don’t miss the deep-fried halloumi, served with lemon wedges for an extra burst of flavor. If you’re a fan of stuffed grape leaves, be sure to order the dolmades. It’s owned by the amazing chefs Liam Tomlin and Dimo Papachristodoulou, and the head chef is the talented John van Zyl. They serve authentic Indian cuisine with a special focus on tapas.
When you step inside Thali, get ready to be transported on a visual journey. The restaurant is filled with intricate postcard art, vibrant colors, kaleidoscopic patterns, and a sense of Indian intrigue. You’ll feel like you’ve been whisked away to an exotic land. The interiors have five different sections, and there’s even a beautiful garden area where you can enjoy your meal. It’s a truly unique and exciting eating experience.
Let me tell you what I recommend. Since Thali is owned by the talented Chefs Warehouse duo Liam Tomlin and Dimo Papachristodoulou, you can expect the food to be exceptional. One of the highlights is the tapas for two, priced at R800. This feast includes eight delicious dishes. You’ll get to enjoy tantalizing tandoori chicken, as well as golden lamb and chicken curries. It’s a fantastic way to sample a variety of flavors.
Here are the opening times. For dinner, Thali is open from Monday to Saturday, starting at 5pm and closing at 9.30pm. If you’re more of a lunch person, you can visit on Fridays and Saturdays between 12pm and 2.30pm. Keep in mind that Thali has a no reservation policy, so it’s a first-come, first-served basis.

As I walked through the narrow streets, I couldn’t help but feel like I had stepped back in time. The old town is home to numerous mosques, madrasas, and mausoleums, each intricately adorned with beautiful tile work and intricate carvings. The Kalyan Minaret, also known as the Tower of Death, is one of the most iconic structures in Bukhara. Standing at a height of 47 meters, it offers breathtaking views of the city.
Another must-visit site is the Ark of Bukhara, an ancient citadel that served as the residence of the emirs of Bukhara. Exploring the complex, I could envision the grandeur and power that once resided within its walls. The Sheikhs of Bukhara Palace, Juma Mosque, and the Chor Minor are other notable attractions that provide a glimpse into Bukhara’s illustrious past.
In addition to its historical significance, Bukhara is also renowned for its vibrant bazaars. The bustling markets are a feast for the senses, with colorful spices, handcrafted textiles, and traditional crafts on display. The aroma of freshly baked bread and spices fills the air, enticing visitors to sample the local cuisine. I highly recommend trying the traditional dish called plov, a flavorful rice dish cooked with meat and vegetables.
