Swan Café, Micky Hoyle

Let me tell you the tale of how the East City triumphed.

Once upon a time, the East City in Cape Town was an area associated with industry and commerce on the outskirts of the central business district. But things have changed, my friend. Now, this place is transforming into a remarkably cool creative hub that attracts attention from all corners. It’s a place where modern art galleries, stylish cafés, and gritty dive bars coexist alongside luxury sports car dealerships and garages for skilled mechanics.

Geographically, this urban tract lies at the intersection of the central business district and District Six, where the streets of Roeland, Buitenkant, and Harrington converge. Here, you will find a captivating mix of hipsters and affluent individuals soaking up the vibrant atmosphere, all while creating content for their Instagram stories.

But here’s the thing, my friend – like many other neighborhoods in Cape Town, the East City is on the verge of gentrification. However, this transformation is not necessarily negative, as long as the area manages to retain its raw and enticing charm, which has kept it hidden from the mainstream for so long.

Visiting the East City? I’m curious about your adventures. Any places you recommend? Drop a comment below and share the hidden gems!

Uncover the Unknown

The Best of The East City Where To Eat What To Do

This awesome restaurant had a surprise opening on Harrington Street back in August 21, 2018. The owner-chef, Neil, made the decision to follow his passion for cooking without limits and teamed up with his long-time friend, Anouchka Horn, who he met while working at Terroir Restaurant.
The restaurant has an industrial-modern feel and only serves a maximum of 20 guests per service. Neil explains that cooking on a smaller scale brings out the full flavor of each dish – something that all home cooks can understand. One side of the small venue features an open kitchen, while the other side displays a window facing the street.
You won’t believe the value you get for the price of R599 per person. You’ll enjoy multiple amazing courses, as well as the bread service, a wonderfully unique palette cleanser made by Anouchka, and a delightful after-dessert surprise. Neil calls it “a last hoorah”. You won’t find a deal like this anywhere else in the area.

The Electric

The electric industry is an ever-evolving world full of wonder and intrigue. It’s amazing how electricity powers our lives in so many different ways. From the moment we wake up in the morning, we are surrounded by the magical presence of electricity.

Think about it. You wake up and turn on your bedside lamp. The light bulb illuminates the room, providing a warm glow that gently wakes you up. It’s hard to imagine a world without electricity, isn’t it?

But what exactly is electricity? It’s a fascinating force that flows through wires and powers our appliances and gadgets. It’s like the lifeblood of modern civilization, pulsing through our homes, offices, and cities.

And if you’re curious about how electricity is generated, let me take you on a little journey. It starts with power plants, which use various fuels like coal, natural gas, or renewable sources such as wind and solar. These power plants convert energy into electricity, which then travels through transmission lines to reach our homes and businesses.

But electricity is not just about generating power. It’s also about using that power efficiently and safely. That’s where electricians come in. These skilled professionals are the superheroes of the electric industry. They install, repair, and maintain electrical systems, ensuring that everything is working properly and safely.

So, why is electricity so important? Well, think about all the things you do every day that rely on electricity. From turning on the lights to charging your phone, electricity is essential for our daily lives. Without it, we would be left in the dark, quite literally.

Electricity also plays a crucial role in advancing society. It powers our hospitals, allowing doctors to save lives. It drives our transportation systems, getting us from point A to point B. And it supports our communication networks, connecting people from all over the world.

In conclusion, electricity is a fundamental part of our lives, guiding us through our daily routines and propelling us into the future. It’s a force that we often take for granted, but one that we should always appreciate. So, let’s embrace the wonders of electricity and continue to explore the many possibilities it holds.

Now, let me tell you about another spot – The Cousins Trattoria.

The Best of The East City Where To Eat What To Do

Hey there! I’m excited to share with you the story of The Cousins Trattoria, a fantastic Italian restaurant right here in Cape Town. The founders, Andrea Biondi, Simone Briganti, and Luca Pantani, grew up on the beautiful Adriatic coast of Italy. After living in Cape Town for many years, they realized that the city was missing an authentic Italian trattoria. So, they decided to open their very own, which they aptly named The Cousins Trattoria.

Now let’s talk about the food – it’s absolutely amazing! Every morning, the chefs make fresh pasta from scratch using recipes passed down from their grandmother, or “nonna” as they fondly call her. And let me tell you, the flavors are out of this world! The plates they serve are full of simple but incredible taste combinations that will leave you speechless.

But there’s one dish that truly stands out – the Cousins Pasta. Picture this: a giant wheel of Grana Padano cheese filled with tagliolini, cream, mushrooms, and thyme. It’s like a work of art! The flavors meld together perfectly, creating a truly unforgettable experience for your taste buds. You won’t find anything quite like it anywhere else.

When you visit The Cousins Trattoria, make sure to request a booth. They’re super cozy and perfect for enjoying your meal in comfort. And don’t forget to save some room for dessert! Treat yourself to a vodka-infused sorbet or an excellent affogato. And if you need a little help digesting, ending your meal with a limoncello is always a good idea.

Now, let me give you some practical information. The restaurant is open from Monday to Sunday, between 6pm and 10pm. You can get in touch with them by calling 083 273 9604 or sending an email to cousinsreservation@gmail.com. The Cousins Trattoria is located at 3B Barrack Street in the CBD of Cape Town.

So, what are you waiting for? Head over to The Cousins Trattoria and indulge in the most amazing Italian cuisine Cape Town has to offer. Buon appetito!
