Kalk Bay
Kalk Bay is an incredible place. It’s like a mix of a fishing village and a busy main street. What sets it apart is the combination of historic buildings, cobblestone streets, charming cafés, restaurants, bookstores, and galleries. And let’s not forget about the colorful fishing boats and the creative locals. All of this is set against a backdrop of stunning ocean and mountain views. No wonder it’s one of the Top 12 neighborhoods, according to Forbes. And if you’re visiting with kids, there are some must-visit places.
The first stop has to be the Ice Café. They serve the creamiest soft-serve ice cream that will make your taste buds dance with joy. For a proper seafood experience, head to Kalky’s at the harbor. Watch out for seagulls swooping down to snatch a chip, and you might even spot some lazy seals. If you’re looking for an indulgent treat, Lekker is the place to go. Their milkshakes are topped with a delicious doughnut and an Oreo. And if you’re interested in sharks and marine life, you have to stop by the Save Our Seas Shark Centre. There are even interactive displays where you can “talk” to a whale over the phone!
Another place not to be missed is St James tidal pool and beach. It’s like stepping into a storybook with its colorful huts. And while the kids are having a blast, you can take a break and grab something to eat or drink. Bob’s Bagel Café is a great choice. It’s located up Rouxville Road, and just across from it, there’s a park with slides, swings, and lawns. If you’re a pizza lover, you have to try Sirocco. They serve Napoli-style pizzas, and what makes the experience even more special is that you’ll be sitting inside a real 1914 train carriage called “Umsinga.”

The Sea Point Promenade
Hey there! Let’s talk about the amazing Sea Point Promenade.
Imagine taking a stroll along the beautiful coast, with the ocean breeze gently caressing your face. That’s what the Sea Point Promenade is all about – a place where you can escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and immerse yourself in the beauty of nature.
Whether you’re a local looking for some downtime or a visitor exploring the wonders of Cape Town, the Sea Point Promenade has something for everyone. It’s a popular spot for joggers, cyclists, and dog walkers, as well as families looking to spend quality time together.
With its well-maintained pathways, stunning views, and plenty of seating areas, the Sea Point Promenade is an ideal place to relax and take in the beauty of the ocean. You can even have a picnic or enjoy a leisurely bike ride with your loved ones.
But it’s not just about the breathtaking scenery. The Sea Point Promenade also offers a range of amenities to make your visit even more enjoyable. You’ll find clean public restrooms, drinking fountains to quench your thirst, and even outdoor gyms where you can work out while admiring the sea views.
As you wander along the promenade, you might come across street performers entertaining passersby or artists displaying their beautiful creations. The vibrant atmosphere adds an extra touch of magic to this already enchanting place.
The Sea Point Promenade is also home to a variety of restaurants and cafes, where you can grab a bite to eat or a refreshing drink. From trendy cafes to casual eateries, there’s something to satisfy every craving. And of course, nothing beats enjoying a delicious meal while gazing out at the sparkling ocean.
So, if you’re looking for a peaceful retreat or a fun-filled day out, the Sea Point Promenade is the perfect destination for you. It’s a haven of tranquility where you can reconnect with nature and create cherished memories with your loved ones.
Next time you’re in Cape Town, don’t forget to visit this hidden gem. Trust me, you won’t be disappointed. The Sea Point Promenade is waiting to welcome you with open arms.
For years, families have flocked to the 11-kilometre-long Promenade for a classic day out. I love taking my kids to the Mouille Point side because it offers so much fun. Sure, you can find Pavilion pools at one end and great rollerblading and skateboarding spots in the middle. But my favorite part is the area near the lighthouse. That’s where you’ll discover the old-school putt-putt course. It may not have fancy lights or sounds, but it’s still a blast for the whole family. And its location right by the sea is unbeatable. Another attraction we can’t miss is the Blue Train, the last remaining beachfront miniature railway in SA. It’s been running since 1958 and never fails to charm us.
If you’re in the mood for a beachfront adventure, check out Coastal Cycles. They have a kiosk here where you can rent cruiser bikes. Alternatively, you can try Up Cycles on the Pavilion side if that’s more convenient for you.
Good to know: Close by, you’ll find Green Point Park, which offers free entry. This park has a biodiversity garden, a wetland zone, and expansive lawns. It’s the perfect place for walking, cycling, playing games, flying kites, or having a picnic. Plus, there are three play areas for children and even for our furry friends. And if you get hungry or thirsty, you can always grab a bite at the Park Café.
While the kids are playing, why not join in on the fun? Trust me, there’s no need to seek out separate “adult” activities here. But when the little ones are finally worn out, you can head to one of the many fabulous restaurants and ice-cream parlors along the strip.
Where to find it: You can access the Promenade on Beach Road in Mouille Point. If you’re looking for Green Point Park, just head to Bay Road, which is one block behind Beach Road.
