Cape Town, My Beloved City
I Absolutely Love the throwback diner design and the lively atmosphere of the street (if you’re not into hipsters and skater kids, you might want to stay away); the side of crispy double-fried fries accompanied by aioli sauce.
I Highly Recommend the Clarke’s Cheese Burger: a special blend of grass-fed cuts (sourced from the esteemed Bill Riley Family Butchers), topped with Underberger cheese, all nestled on a buttery brioche bun, and served with your choice of fries or salad. It’s a flavor explosion!
The Extra Special Touch is undoubtedly the brioche bun itself, with its slightly sweet taste that beautifully complements the succulent meat.

You’ll Find Us At Clarke’s Bar & Dining Room, located at 133 Bree Street, Cape Town.
2. The Butcher Shop & Grill
The Cape Town branch of this South African favorite is a must-visit for meat lovers. Renowned for its steaks, the restaurant also offers delicious, juicy burgers made from the same high-quality meat.
Why I love it This place has it all – a fantastic location on the Mouille Point strip, top-notch beef used for the patties, and stunning views of the crashing waves along the Sea Point Promenade. As soon as you step inside, you’ll be greeted with warm and professional service, making for a truly wonderful dining experience.
X-Factor What sets this place apart is its adjoining butchery and deli. Here, you can find fresh and excellent-quality produce. Just like in the good old days, you can visit the butcher’s counter, select your desired size and cut, and have it prepared to your liking. What’s even better is that the butchery operates the same hours as the restaurant.
Good to know You won’t have to bring your own wine to The Butcher Shop & Grill, thanks to their impressive collection of vintage wines. And if you’re in the mood for something stronger, their drinks menu includes blended whiskies, single malts, cognacs, and liqueurs.
Contact You can reach them at 021 434 0813 or send an email to enquiries@thebutchershop.co.za.

3. Mount Nelson Planet Bar

At Mount Nelson Planet Bar, you can experience just that. Nestled in the heart of nature, this bar offers a unique atmosphere that will capture your imagination. The warm ambiance and friendly staff make you feel right at home.

The knowledgeable staff will guide you on a journey through the stars, pointing out constellations and sharing fascinating facts about the solar system. You’ll leave with a sense of wonder and a newfound appreciation for the world beyond our own.
But it’s not just the celestial experience that sets Mount Nelson Planet Bar apart. The bar itself offers a wide selection of delicious beverages, from mocktails to aromatic coffees. Whether you’re in the mood for something sweet or something bold, there’s a drink to satisfy every taste bud.
And let’s not forget about the food! The menu at Mount Nelson Planet Bar features an array of mouthwatering dishes made with fresh, locally sourced ingredients. Whether you’re a star enthusiast or simply someone who enjoys good food and drinks, this place has something for everyone. Step into a world of wonder and let your imagination take flight – you won’t be disappointed. See you under the stars!
Why you’ll love it: The Planet Bar’s trendy and celestial-themed decor, complete with cozy couches, makes it the perfect spot for a post-theater or late-night snack. If the weather is nice, you can enjoy the lovely terrace and maybe even catch a glimpse of some famous faces passing by. You never know who you might spot! This place is great for people-watching, and between you and me, I heard that Sean Penn and Charlize Theron were regulars during their recent filming trip to Cape Town. They must have good taste!
What I recommend: You absolutely have to try Chef Rudi’s “Rolls-Royce” burger. It’s made with a 200gm patty of 100% pure beef, prepared with a secret mix of beef cuts, chopped parsley, Dijon mustard, and salt. The patty is then basted with Chef Rudi’s special sauce. The hotel is known for its amazing bread, and they serve this burger on a toasted sesame bun that is just perfect. The burger is topped with mature cheddar, pickled cucumber, tomato, lettuce, tomato chutney, and sautéed onion. You can choose to have it with either crispy fries or potato wedges, and they’ll also toss in a side salad or coleslaw. Yes, it’s a bit pricey at R135, but believe me, it’s worth every single rand. You won’t find a better luxury burger anywhere else!
The X-factor: Sometimes, if you ask Chef Rudi really nicely, he’ll make extra-large burgers. Just like he did for the 10 members of the Burger Boys Club. Those guys meet up regularly at The Planet Bar and they couldn’t stop raving about the giant burgers they were served. The best part? It only cost them around R150 each. Now, that’s a deal!
Contact: Give them a call at 021 483 1000.
Location: You’ll find The Planet Bar at The Mount Nelson Hotel, 76 Orange Street, Gardens, Cape Town. It’s the place to be!
4. Royale Eatery

First of all, I want to mention that I love going to Royale Eatery because they have an incredible selection of burgers. I mean, seriously, they have over 50 different kinds of burgers to choose from! It’s like a burger lover’s dream come true.
When you walk into Royale Eatery, you can immediately feel the lively atmosphere. The place is always buzzing with people, and the staff are super friendly and welcoming. It’s the kind of place where you can just relax and enjoy a good meal with friends or family.

One of the things that sets Royale Eatery apart from other burger places is their attention to detail. Each burger is crafted with care, using fresh ingredients and unique flavor combinations. It’s clear that they take pride in what they serve, and it definitely shows in the taste.
And let’s not forget about the sides and drinks. They have a great selection of fries, salads, and milkshakes to complement your meal. Whether you’re in the mood for classic fries or something a little more adventurous like truffle parmesan fries, they’ve got you covered.
Honestly, I could talk about Royale Eatery all day, but I think you get the point. If you’re in Cape Town and looking for a fantastic burger experience, you should definitely check out Royale Eatery. It’s a place where you can enjoy delicious food, great company, and a vibrant atmosphere. Trust me, you won’t be disappointed.
Here’s what I love about Redemption Burgers: The vibe at this place is just perfect. When you order a burger, make sure you get a shake to go with it. They have a variety of flavors to choose from, ranging from classic favorites like Choc Brownie to more daring options like Jack Daniels and Peanut Butter. And let me tell you, you can really taste the Jack in that one!
Here’s my recommendation: Give their Classic Royale a try. It’s made with a 160g pure beef patty that’s been basted in Redemption’s special sauce. They top it off with aioli, lettuce, tomato, caramelised onion, and gherkins, and you can have it with a side of salad or choose between potato or sweet-potato fries. It’s a real treat!
And here’s the X-factor: Redemption’s sauces are out of this world. Whether you go for their house basting sauce or their homemade tomato relish, you won’t be disappointed. These sauces add the perfect tanginess to your burger.
You can get in touch with Redemption Burgers at: 021 422 4536
Their location is: 273 Long Street, Cape Town
5. Redemption Burgers
Why I Love It The best thing about Redemption Burgers is its down-to-earth and friendly atmosphere. They use locally sourced ingredients to create their delicious burgers, which adds an authentic touch. Located in the trendy Old Biscuit Mill, it’s a refreshing change from the upscale restaurants that surround it. On Saturdays, the Neighbourgoods Market adds to the lively ambiance. When it gets crowded, you can escape to the outdoor seating area and enjoy a beer while people-watching at the various stalls.
My Recommendation My go-to burger at Redemption Burgers is The Straight Ace. It features a 200g handmade beef patty with organic cheddar, homemade tomato relish, gherkins, and sweet mustard mayo. It’s a simple combination that never fails to satisfy. If you’re feeling adventurous, try the Flimsy Gypsy with its ostrich patty, creamy brie cheese, marinated tomatoes, and fresh roasted garlic mayo. The El Borracho Mexicano is another great option, topped with homemade jalapeño mayo, organic cheddar, chilli salsa, and guacamole. And don’t worry, they also serve fantastic veggie burgers.
What Makes it Special Redemption Burgers takes their fries to the next level with their homemade special seasoning. It adds an extra kick to the already delicious fries. And if you’re a craft beer enthusiast, they have a selection of authentic craft beers, including the popular Fokof Lager by the Afrikaans rock band Fokofpolisiekar.
Good to Know While Redemption Burgers is known for its burgers, they also offer breakfast options until noon, as well as coffee, sandwiches, and a liquor selection.

Location You can find Redemption Burgers at Block B, The Old Biscuit Mill, 375 Albert Road, Woodstock.
6. Loading Bay
At first glance, a loading bay may seem like a simple, unremarkable area. However, it hides within it a world of logistics and efficiency. Here, goods are received, sorted, and dispatched to their respective destinations. But what goes on behind the scenes? How does a loading bay operate, and why is it so crucial in the grand scheme of things?
When you look at a loading bay, you see a complex network of trucks, forklifts, and workers bustling about. You witness the organized chaos and the synchronization of tasks. It’s all about time and precision. One delay or mistake can lead to a ripple effect, disrupting the entire supply chain.
So, what makes a loading bay so important? Imagine you’re eagerly awaiting a package. You click the “track my order” button, excited to know its whereabouts. The loading bay is where your package undergoes an intricate dance, moving from one vehicle to another, ensuring a smooth transition from the warehouse to your doorstep.
Each element in the loading bay plays a vital role. The trucks carry the goods, the forklifts transport them within the warehouse, and the workers skillfully load and unload the items. It’s a symphony of motion, with everyone working together to deliver your package with care and efficiency.
Efficiency is key in a loading bay. Every second counts, and there’s no room for error. The goods must be sorted, organized, and loaded onto the correct vehicles. Mistakes can lead to delayed deliveries, frustrated customers, and loss of business.
Moreover, a loading bay is more than just a place where goods are moved. It’s a hub for communication and coordination. It’s where online orders meet the physical world, where packages come to life. In this bustling space, information is exchanged, instructions are given, and problems are solved. It’s the beating heart of the supply chain, ensuring that goods flow smoothly and reach their intended destinations.
So, next time you pass by a loading bay, take a moment to appreciate the complexity and significance it holds. It’s not just a basic area, but a central component that keeps our modern world moving. Without it, the supply chain would grind to a halt, and our eagerly awaited packages would never arrive.
When it comes to what I love, it’s definitely the truffle-salted fries at Dog’s Bollocks. And let’s not forget about owner JP Bolus’s infectious smile that always brightens my day.
If you’re looking for a recommendation, I highly recommend trying The Classic Burger. It’s made with 100% grass-fed pasture-reared beef and comes with your choice of truffle-salted fries or fresh greens.
The x-factor at Dog’s Bollocks is the top-quality meat they source from Frankie Fenner Meat Merchants. You can taste the difference in every bite.
If you want to get in touch, you can reach Dog’s Bollocks at 021 425 6321 or send an email to info@dogsbollocks.com. They’re located in the vibrant neighborhood of De Waterkant, right here in Cape Town.
So, if you’re looking for a delicious meal with a side of great vibes, Dog’s Bollocks is the place to be.
Here’s what I love: This place has a cool, makeshift vibe. You see, it’s actually located in a driveway that doubles as a garage. The owner, Nigel Wood, has a dry sense of humor and keeps things simple. They don’t have waitrons or cutlery here, and that adds to the unique experience. And let’s not forget about the burgers! They only make 50 each night, and once they’re gone, they’re gone. But don’t worry, there are other tasty options on the menu like ribs, chicken wings, and nachos.
My recommendation: You’ve got to try the Old School 1950s Mega Slider. It’s made with a juicy beef patty and topped with melted cheddar, caramelized onions, fresh lettuce, a slice of tomato, and a blend of delicious sauces. And guess what? The fries are included too!
What sets them apart: The real charm of this place is that it’s a hidden gem. It’s not your typical restaurant or burger joint. It’s tucked away in a driveway, and finding it adds to the adventure.
Contact information: You can reach Megan at 082 885 5719 or Nigel at 083 440 7843. They can also be reached via email at meganeloff@gmail.com.
Location: You’ll find Dog’s Bollocks at 6 Roodehek Street in Gardens.
8. Jakes
Food Blog
What I love is the amazing juiciness of their extra-thick patties.
I recommend you try their Classic American Burger, which is a 200g handmade patty topped with mature cheddar, chipotle mayo, thick-cut gherkins, and onion rings. It’s served with crispy skinny fries.
What sets them apart is their unapologetically bold presentation (they don’t do small portions – it’s all about going big!); and the zesty kick of their chipotle mayo will definitely wake up your taste buds.
How to reach them – Give them a call at 021 701 3272 or email them at tokai@jakes.co.za.
Where to find them – You’ll find them at Jakes on Summerley, located at 5 Summerley Road, Upper Kenilworth.
9. Gibson’s
Hey there! Let me tell you about Gibson’s, one of my favorite burger joints. They’ve got a new spot at the V&A Waterfront, and it’s pretty fantastic. The view of the working harbor is amazing, and the extra space means you won’t have to squeeze in like a sardine. Plus, their burger selection is top-notch!
When it comes to taste, Gibson’s doesn’t disappoint. Their burgers are packed with flavor, especially the ones with Mexican-inspired toppings. Trust me, you won’t be disappointed. And don’t worry about leaving hungry, these burgers are big enough to rival any wall Donald Trump has in mind.
Now, let me recommend you the star of the show: the Ultimare Mex-Tex. It’s a massive burger topped with cheddar cheese, jalapeño, and guacamole. And to make things even better, it comes with nachos, salsa, and sour cream. It’s a fiesta in your mouth!
Oh, and don’t forget about the milkshakes! They’re thick and creamy, and they go perfectly with your burger. They’ve got all sorts of flavors to choose from, like blueberry and cinnamon doughnut. Trust me, you won’t be able to resist.
So, if you’re craving a burger that’ll knock your socks off, you’ve gotta try Gibson’s. For more information, you can reach them at 087 357 3465 or info@slickrestaurants.com. You’ll find them at the V&A Waterfront – perfect for a day of strolling and burger-sampling.
Now, let’s move on to my next favorite spot – Jerry’s!
What I love: I absolutely adore these burgers because they are made with a secret recipe that doesn’t include any eggs or bread crumbs. Plus, unlike other places, the price includes a generous serving of perfectly crispy shoestring fries. It’s a winning combo!
I recommend: My top pick is the Jack D Burger. It’s made with 100-percent pure beef and basted in a deliciously sticky Jack Daniels sauce. Topped with caramelized onions and crisp bacon, it’s a flavor explosion. A close second is the B.A.F Burger, which is loaded with bacon, avocado, and feta.
The X-factor: One thing that sets Jerry’s Burger Bar apart is their amazing brioche buns. The patties are served on these soft and tasty buns that take the burgers to a whole new level. And to make it even better, they make their tangy sauces like chipotle mayo and mustard mayo from scratch.
Contact: If you’re craving some mouthwatering burgers, give Jerry’s Burger Bar a call at 021 447 8554 or send them an email at obz@jerrysburgerbar.co.za.
Location: Jerry’s Burger Bar is located at 123 Lower Main Road, Observatory.
11. Café Caprice
What I love about The Slug & Lettuce Durbanville is its location right in the heart of the lively Camps Bay Strip. It’s the perfect spot for people watching and soaking up the beach vibes.
If you’re hungry, I recommend trying their Caprice Burger. Made with 100% pure beef and smothered in delicious barbecue sauce, it’s a flavor explosion. The burger is topped with crispy beer-battered onion rings that add a satisfying crunch and a burst of flavor. It’s served with a generous portion of fries, making it a complete and satisfying meal.
But what really sets this place apart is the onion rings. They are a mini meal on their own, packed with texture, crunch, and flavor. Each bite is an explosion of deliciousness.
If you’re interested in dining here, you can contact them at 021 438 8315 or email them at info@cafecaprice.co.za. The restaurant is located at 37 Victoria Road, Camps Bay.
12. The Slug & Lettuce Durbanville
Here’s what I love: The first thing that catches my eye at Woodies is the generous amount of melting cheese and bacon. Just thinking about it makes my mouth water! If you’re like me and love gooey cheese and crispy bacon, then you won’t be disappointed at Woodies. This place knows how to do it right.
My recommendation: One burger that I would highly recommend is the Bacon and Melting-Cheese Burger. It’s made with a 200g hand-pressed South African beef patty and topped with fresh tomato, onion, and greens. The burger is then finished off with a handful of crunchy onion rings. And of course, it’s served with a side of perfectly crispy fries. Trust me, this burger will leave you feeling satisfied and happy.
How to get in touch: If you want to experience the deliciousness of Woodies for yourself, you can contact them at 021 976 8705 or via email at durbanville@slugandlettuce.co.za. They’ll be more than happy to answer any questions you might have or help you make a reservation. Trust me, it’s worth it!
Where to find Woodies: Woodies is located at The Slug & Lettuce in Heritage Square, Vrede Street, Durbanville. The atmosphere at Woodies is cozy and inviting, perfect for a night out with friends or a casual meal with your loved ones. Give it a try and I promise you won’t be disappointed.
13. Woodies
Guess what I love? Burgers! And the best part is, at Woodies, they start at just R25. They have nine different options to choose from, all made with either a juicy beef patty or a tasty chicken fillet. And here’s the best part – everything on their menu is halaal.
Now, let me recommend something delicious. It’s called The Colossus, and it’s a burger that’s so big, it even has its own hashtag! Picture this: four 100g beef patties (or two chicken fillets) stacked with mozzarella, cheddar, fresh lettuce, juicy onions, ripe tomatoes, and tangy gherkins. Yum! It’ll definitely leave you satisfied.
But what makes Woodies truly special is the whole experience. It’s not your typical burger joint at the V&A. Nope! You’ll find it upstairs at the V&A Market on the Wharf. When you order, you grab a seat at one of the tables in the food court and wait for your name to be called. If it’s a nice day, you can even take your food and enjoy it at one of their outdoor tables.
Now, here’s a word of caution – be prepared to get messy. You’ll be served traditional hand-cut chips, and trust me, they’re worth the extra R15. And the burger? It’s the biggest one you’ve ever seen, served on a humble paper plate. So grab a big stack of napkins, because it’s gonna be a bit tricky to keep all those delicious toppings and juicy goodness together.
Ready to try Woodies? You can contact them at 079 125 7228 or shoot them an email at woodiesburgers@gmail.com. And remember, you’ll find them at the V&A Food Market on the Wharf, tucked away upstairs. Enjoy!
14. The Butcher Man
I remember the day I stumbled upon the story of the Butcher Man. It was a peculiar tale that intrigued me because of its oddity. The Butcher Man was known for his supernatural powers, which he used to restore life to the dead. I found this concept incredibly fascinating and couldn’t help but wonder about the possibilities it presented.
The idea of being able to bring back the deceased is something that has fascinated humans for centuries. It’s a concept that taps into our desire to defy death and have control over the ultimate unknown. And if you’re anything like me, then you’ll understand the allure of such power.
But, as they say, with great power comes great responsibility. The ability to revive the dead is a double-edged sword. While it may seem like a gift, it also raises important ethical questions. Who decides who gets to come back? What are the consequences of interfering with the natural order of life and death? These are not easy questions to answer.
When it comes to the Butcher Man, his motives were unclear. Some saw him as a savior, a bringer of hope and second chances. Others viewed him as a madman, meddling with forces that should not be tampered with. Understanding his true intentions is a puzzle that still eludes us.
And yet, despite the uncertainties, there is something undeniably captivating about the Butcher Man and his abilities. The idea of someone having the power to regenerate life is both awe-inspiring and terrifying. It forces us to confront our own mortality and question the boundaries of what is possible.
In today’s world, where advancements in technology are constantly pushing the boundaries of what we thought was achievable, the story of the Butcher Man remains relevant. It serves as a reminder that our desire for control over life and death is a timeless one.
The Butcher Man’s story may be shrouded in mystery, but its impact is undeniable. It challenges us to reconsider our understanding of life and the power we hold over it. By following in the footsteps of the Butcher Man, we may uncover new truths about ourselves and the world around us.
Here’s what I love: The Butcher Man is a unique place where you can find both a butcher shop and a burger joint all in one. When you visit, you have the option to pick out your own piece of beef from the refrigerator. You can either take it home with you or enjoy it right there at one of the tables facing the street in Green Point. It’s a wonderful experience!
My recommendation: If you visit The Butcher Man, I highly recommend trying their Wagyu Burger. It’s made with 200g of top-notch wagyu beef that comes all the way from Gauteng. The beef is aged in-house and it’s absolutely delicious. The burger comes topped with pickled cucumbers and their own special mayo. It’s served with a side of French fries and coleslaw. Trust me, you won’t be disappointed!
The X-factor: If you’re a meat lover, this is the place for you! The Butcher Man is a paradise for carnivores. It’s not the best spot for vegetarians, so you might want to leave your vegetarian friends behind for this one. They also have a deli and biltong bar that adds even more flavor to the experience. It’s like the perfect finishing touch!
Want to get in touch? You can contact The Butcher Man at 021 434 1111 or email them at realmeat@thebutcherman.co.za.
Where to find them: The Butcher Man is located at 105 Main Road in Greenpoint, Cape Town.
