Seafood Dining in the City
1. Kyoto Garden
Claire Gunn
Hey there! I’ve got something special to share with you today. It’s this amazing Japanese restaurant created by Scott Wood, an American chef. This place offers a serene and sophisticated dining experience, where you can indulge in classic sushi favorites or try some of the more exotic seafood options on the menu. Trust me, they’re hard to resist!
They source their ingredients from all over the world, like salmon and king crab from Alaska, lobster from Maine, sea urchin from France, and deep-sea scallops from Japan. The team of chefs here are super passionate about their work and give each ingredient the respect it deserves.
But wait, there’s more! You can also dive into their three different types of oysters served each evening. As you savor these delectable treats, take a moment to soak in the serene and Zen-inspired surroundings. It’s truly a culinary experience like no other.
Now, I have to be honest with you, this place might be a bit pricier than some other options, but I promise you, it’s worth every single cent. The flavors, the ambiance, everything is just top-notch.
Opening times: Monday – Sunday, 5.30pm – 11pm

2. SeaBreeze Fish & Shell

From succulent lobster tails to juicy shrimp skewers, SeaBreeze Fish & Shell has a wide selection of dishes to satisfy any seafood craving. I highly recommend trying their signature dish, the seafood platter. It’s a feast for the senses, filled with a variety of mouthwatering seafood delicacies.
One of my favorite things about SeaBreeze Fish & Shell is their commitment to sustainability. They only source their seafood from suppliers who practice responsible fishing methods, ensuring the long-term health of our oceans. It’s comforting to know that I can enjoy delicious seafood while also supporting a restaurant that cares about the environment.
The atmosphere at SeaBreeze Fish & Shell is elegant yet approachable. Whether you’re looking for a romantic dinner date or a casual gathering with friends, this restaurant has the perfect ambiance. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, always willing to recommend the best dishes or pairings.

Incredible things happen when you take a leap of faith. That’s exactly what Scottish owners Alex and Ruth Grahame did when they exchanged the icy climate of Aberdeen, Scotland for the mostly sunny skies of Cape Town. With their seafood restaurant experience, they opened SeaBreeze on bustling Bree Street, an exciting eatery that puts a fresh twist on traditional fish dishes. Prepare to be dazzled by the likes of hake ceviche with creamy cheese and squid ink mayo, or a mouthwatering tuna burger topped with crispy onions. And if you’re a fan of rum, don’t miss the rum bar at the back of the shop, with a wide selection of grog that even Jack Sparrow would approve of.
Now here’s something you’ll love – the restaurant recently introduced a Sunday brunch from 11am to 2pm. So you can start your day off on a delicious note.
SeaBreeze is open from Monday to Sunday, serving their delectable dishes between 12pm and 9pm. If you want to drop them a line, their contact number is 074 79 39 349. And for those of you wondering where to find SeaBreeze, make your way to 213 Bree Street, Cape Town.
3. Riva Italian Fish Restaurant
If you’re a seafood lover who appreciates flavorful dishes and friendly service, then you need to visit Riva. This relatively new restaurant in De Waterkant is a gem. It was opened in July 2018 by two Italian chefs and friends, Nico Rovarini and Federico Rocca.
Their menu changes weekly, but one dish that you absolutely have to try if it’s available is their Italian-style fish and chips – the hake is deep-fried with a crispy polenta coating, and served with irresistibly tasty shoestring vegetable fries and tartar sauce. Another must-try is their red roman carpaccio, a delicious cured fish dish with a lemony flavor, served with fresh peach, wild berries, and radishes.
Here’s a tip: On most Saturdays from 6pm, Riva offers some kind of special deal (we recommend the six-oyster platter for R100) and there’s even live music.
Good news: The restaurant doesn’t have a liquor license yet, so feel free to bring your own drinks.
They’re open: Thursday – Friday, 12pm to 2pm and Monday – Saturday, 6pm – 10:30pm.
Contact them: Call 078 443 4164, 021 418 0657, 078 611 1895 or email rivacapetown@gmail.com.
Location: You can find Riva at 24/4 Napier Street, De Waterkant, Cape Town.
4. Miller’s Thumb
I want to talk to you about a cool little fish called the miller’s thumb. Have you ever heard of it? I hadn’t, until recently. It turns out that the miller’s thumb is a type of fish that lives in freshwater streams. It’s a small fish, usually only a few inches long, but it’s really interesting.
One thing that sets the miller’s thumb apart from other fish is its appearance. It has a big head and a small body, with a round, flattened shape. Its mouth is wide and its eyes are positioned high on its head. It’s not the most attractive fish, but it’s definitely unique.
Another interesting thing about the miller’s thumb is its behavior. It’s a bottom-dweller, which means it spends most of its time on the riverbed. And unlike other fish that swim in schools, the miller’s thumb is a solitary creature. It likes to hide under rocks and in crevices, coming out at night to hunt for food.
Speaking of food, the miller’s thumb has a varied diet. It eats insects, crustaceans, and sometimes even other smaller fish. It’s not a very picky eater, which is probably why it has managed to survive in such diverse environments.
But the most fascinating thing about the miller’s thumb is its ability to adapt to its surroundings. It can change its color to blend in with its environment, which helps it avoid predators. If it’s swimming in a sandy riverbed, it will be a light brown color. But if it’s hiding under a rocky crevice, it will be a dark gray color. It’s like being a chameleon!
I think the miller’s thumb is a really interesting fish. It may not be the most beautiful or well-known fish, but it has some incredible adaptations and behaviors that make it truly unique. Next time you’re near a freshwater stream, keep an eye out for the miller’s thumb. You might just spot one hiding under a rock!

On The Waterfront
Hey there! So, I was thinking about this waterfront situation. You know, it’s kinda fascinating how it can be both a blessing and a curse. I mean, on one hand, we have this beautiful stretch of land by the water where people can gather and enjoy themselves. But on the other hand, it can also bring some not-so-great stuff along with it.
Let’s start with the positive side. The waterfront is a place where people can come together, have a good time, and create memories. I don’t know about you, but there’s something peaceful about being near the water. It’s like a calming presence that can help melt away stress and give you a moment of tranquility.
But, unfortunately, there are also some challenges that come with having a waterfront. One of the biggest issues is pollution. You see, being near the water means there’s a chance that chemicals and waste can end up in the water, which can harm the ecosystem and put people’s health at risk. That’s definitely not something we want.
Another challenge is the maintenance that comes with it. Waterfront areas can be beautiful, but they also require a lot of upkeep. From keeping the waterfront clean to maintaining the infrastructure, it can be quite a task. And let’s not forget about the costs involved in doing all of this. It’s not cheap, that’s for sure.
So, you see, the waterfront is a bit of a double-edged sword. It has its benefits, no doubt, but it also comes with its fair share of challenges. And that’s something we need to keep in mind when we’re considering the impact it can have on a community.
But hey, don’t let that discourage you from enjoying the waterfront. If we all work together to take care of it and find ways to address these challenges, we can continue to enjoy the beauty and serenity it brings. After all, a little bit of effort can go a long way in preserving and enhancing this precious resource.
Can you believe that Willoughby & Co is located inside a shopping mall, but people still can’t get enough of their tables? It’s true! Their seafood is so delicious and fresh that this waterfront restaurant has become one of the most popular spots in the city. And their sushi? It’s so good that people line up around the block for it! They also serve Japanese-inspired dishes, seafood pastas, and classic fish and chips.
But here’s something really cool – they also have a deli section where you can buy all sorts of amazing Japanese ingredients like nori, ginger, wasabi, Japanese mayo, and hoisin sauce. If you’re not in the mood to cook, you can ask George at the fish counter to help you pick out some fresh fish or seafood to take home with you.
They’re open every day from 12pm to 10:30pm. If you want to get in touch, just give them a call at 021 418 6116. You can find them at Shop 6132 in Victoria Wharf, V&A Waterfront, Cape Town.

One of the things that sets FireFish apart from other seafood restaurants is their commitment to sustainability. They source their seafood from responsible suppliers, ensuring that they are not contributing to overfishing or harming the environment. This is something that I really appreciate and it makes me feel good about dining there.
The menu at FireFish is extensive and offers something for everyone. 2. Osetra
Osetra caviar is highly regarded for its exquisite taste and luxurious texture. Its distinctive flavor profile sets it apart from other types of caviar, making it a preferred choice among caviar aficionados. The eggs of the Osetra sturgeon are medium in size and range in color from golden yellow to dark brown.
The high-quality Osetra caviar is a result of the sturgeon’s diet, which mainly consists of small crustaceans and insect larvae. This unique diet imparts a rich and complex flavor to the eggs, with hints of nuttiness and a buttery finish.
Osetra caviar is known for its firm texture that bursts with a satisfying pop in your mouth. Its eggs have a slightly larger size compared to other caviar varieties, giving them an extra dimension of mouthfeel. The texture combines creaminess with a slight resistance, creating a delightful sensation that is both smooth and lively.
The flavor and texture of Osetra caviar can be enjoyed in various ways. You can savor it on its own, allowing the delicate taste to shine through. Alternatively, it can be used as a luscious topping for blinis, in sushi rolls, or as an elegant garnish for seafood dishes.
When it comes to choosing the right Osetra caviar, there are a few factors to consider. The color of the caviar can indicate its flavor intensity, with darker shades often having a more pronounced taste. You can also look for caviar that has been hand-selected and sustainably harvested, ensuring its quality and environmental responsibility.
Understanding the intricacies of Osetra caviar can elevate your culinary experience and satisfy your cravings for the finest delicacies.
Hey there, I’m excited to tell you about this awesome new sushi spot I found called Osetra! Owned by restaurateur Oscar Kotze, who also owned Beluga and Sevruga, this place is a fantastic addition to the Kalk Bay strip in the deep south. Just like its name suggests, Osetra is named after a super fancy and expensive caviar.
Oscar is famous for making half-price sushi popular in Cape Town, and he’s keeping up the tradition at Osetra by offering discounted sushi from 11am to 6pm, Monday to Saturday, and all day on Sunday! This means you can enjoy some seriously delicious Angry Prawn Rolls without breaking the bank.
When I went there in October 2018, the restaurant was still being set up, but the kitchen was running smoothly. Oscar treated us to some of their signature rolls, which were absolutely amazing! My three-year-old son had a classic fish and chips meal and loved every bite.
You definitely can’t leave without checking out their deli section. They’ve got everything you need for your Asian cooking, like nori, Japanese mayo, and ginger. And if you’re a wine lover, they’ve got a great selection at good prices too!
Here are some important things to know: Osetra is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and they have a wide variety of drinks available every day. They even have over 250 wines that you can order by the glass!
Here are their opening times: Monday – Friday: 9am – 11pm, Saturday & Sunday: 7am – 11pm. Contact them at 021 788 3240 or dine@osetra.co.za. You can find Osetra at 112 Main Road in Kalk Bay, Cape Town.
3. Kalky’s
Kalky’s is an eatery nestled in the coastal town of Kalk Bay, South Africa. It’s a charming little spot that has been serving up delicious seafood for over 25 years. And let me tell you, the food is absolutely fantastic.
When you step into Kalky’s, you’re greeted by the sweet aroma of fresh fish being cooked to perfection. The open kitchen allows you to see the skilled chefs in action as they prepare your meal. It’s a sight that never fails to amaze me.
The menu at Kalky’s is a seafood lover’s dream. From classic fish and chips to mouthwatering grilled calamari, there’s something for everyone. And let’s not forget about the oysters, which are shucked right in front of you. It’s a true feast for the senses.
But it’s not just the food that makes Kalky’s special. It’s the whole experience. The wooden tables and benches, the nautical decorations, and the sound of the waves crashing against the shore create a relaxed and inviting atmosphere. It’s the perfect place to unwind and enjoy a meal with friends and family.
And if you’re lucky, you might even spot a seal or two swimming in the bay. It’s a reminder that you’re in a place where nature and good food come together in perfect harmony.
So if you find yourself in Kalk Bay, do yourself a favor and pay a visit to Kalky’s. Trust me, you won’t be disappointed. It’s a little slice of seafood heaven that will leave you wanting more.
There’s a cozy cabin-like restaurant owned by Edwin and Liz Rosslind, right on the quay that serves the most incredible fish and chips along this coastline. Allison, their daughter, and George, the manager, now oversee this famous Kalk Bay establishment. On weekends, the place gets packed with people eagerly waiting in line for freshly caught fish. While the battered hake and chips and snoek and chips are the crowd favorites, you can also savor the delicious calamari, kingklip, yellowtail, and prawns. When your order is ready, a waitress will call out your number, and you can dig into your meal at one of the tables covered in plastic. It’s a relaxed and great value-for-money spot that the whole family can enjoy.

2. All About Rocks
Hey there! Let’s dive into the fascinating world of rocks. Rocks are amazing creations of nature that come in all shapes, colors, and sizes. From towering mountains to tiny pebbles on the ground, rocks can be found all around us. They may seem ordinary at first glance, but they have amazing stories to tell.
So, what exactly are rocks? Well, rocks are made up of minerals. These minerals are the building blocks of rocks and give them their unique characteristics. You see, rocks are like puzzles made up of different pieces. Each piece is a mineral, and when they come together, they form a rock. Pretty cool, right?
Rocks can be grouped into three main categories: igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic. Now, these might sound like big, complicated words, but don’t worry, I’ll explain them to you. Igneous rocks are formed when molten lava or magma cools and hardens. Think about it like a delicious ice cream sundae. The molten lava is like the hot fudge pouring over the ice cream, and when it cools down, it transforms into a solid, just like igneous rocks.
On the other hand, sedimentary rocks are formed when small particles of rocks, minerals, and even fossils settle and get compacted over time. It’s like making a sandcastle on the beach. The sand grains pile up and get pressed together, forming a solid sandcastle, just like sedimentary rocks.
Lastly, we have metamorphic rocks. These rocks are formed when existing rocks undergo a transformation due to intense heat and pressure deep within the Earth. It’s like a superhero changing their costume. The rock undergoes a change and emerges with a new look and new properties, just like metamorphic rocks.
Now, you might be wondering why rocks are so important. Well, rocks have been around for millions of years, and they hold clues to Earth’s history. By studying rocks, scientists can learn about how our planet has evolved over time. Rocks can also be used as a valuable resource. They are used in construction, to make roads, and even in making products like concrete and glass.
So, the next time you come across a rock, take a moment to appreciate its beauty and the story it holds. Rocks are not just ordinary objects, they are the storytellers of our planet.

As for the mains, you’ll find delectable dishes like Cape Malay seafood curry, poached or grilled linefish, seafood paella, and seared salmon, just to name a few.
If you visit during the colder months, you can cozy up next to the indoor fireplace. But in summer, I highly recommend grabbing a seat on the outdoor terrace. There’s nothing quite like savoring a delicious meal while feeling the refreshing sea breeze and taking in the breathtaking views of Table Bay and Table Mountain.

Hey there! Have you ever thought about the power of a first impression? It’s pretty incredible how quickly we form opinions based on our initial encounter with something. And that’s especially true when it comes to websites.
When I visit a website, one of the first things I notice is its design. Is it visually appealing? Does it use colors and images in an interesting way? A well-designed website can make you feel excited and curious to explore further.
Another thing that catches my attention is the layout of the website. Is it organized and easy to navigate? I don’t want to waste time searching for what I need. A clean and intuitive layout can save me a lot of frustration.
But one of the most important aspects of a website is its content. Are the words engaging and informative? Does it captivate my attention and keep me interested? Quality content can make all the difference between a forgettable website and one that leaves a lasting impression.
Of course, these are just a few factors to consider when evaluating a website. There are many other elements to take into account, such as loading speed, mobile-friendliness, and accessibility. But by focusing on design, layout, and content, you’re off to a great start in creating a website that stands out from the rest.
