Afoot in Franschhoek
I’m excited to share that the JAN Franschhoek pop-up will be opening for its second season on September 1, 2023. This unique experience takes place in the beautiful lavender fields at La Motte. Make sure to mark your calendar because booking opens on August 1.
La Petite Colombe
La Petite Colombe is a true gem in Franschhoek’s culinary scene. Located at the Leeu Estates wine farm, this restaurant is the sibling of the renowned La Colombe in Constantia. I’m excited to tell you about Ōku! It all started with a trip to Indonesia back in 2015. The experience left a lasting impression on me, and I couldn’t wait to bring those flavors and inspirations back home. That’s how Ōku was born.
When you step inside Ōku, you’ll notice the serene and minimalist Asian design. It’s a space that invites you to relax and savor every moment. The delicate artwork and bonsai trees on the walls add a touch of elegance to the atmosphere.
Now, let’s talk about the food! At Ōku, we offer an incredible variety of dishes to tantalize your taste buds. Whether it’s our mouthwatering bao, flavorful broths, comforting ramen, or delicious dumplings, we’ve got something for everyone. Hey there! Guess what? I’ve found this amazing place called Chefs Warehouse at Maison. It’s part of the Chefs Warehouse group, and let me tell you, it’s unlike anything I’ve ever experienced before. Picture this: the restaurant is nestled on Maison Wine Estate, surrounded by picturesque mountains and vineyards. And here’s the best part – you can spot chickens and even a cute pet pig roaming around the tranquil lawns. How adorable is that? Oh, and did I mention they have their very own organic vegetable garden at the entrance? Love it!
The chef at Chefs Warehouse at Maison is David Schneider, who has worked with renowned chefs Liam Tomlin, Ivor Jones, and the talented team at Chefs Warehouse Beau Constantia. I’m excited to tell you about the Bistro at Grande Provence, a charming new spot that you have to visit! It’s located in an enclosed garden, right off the delightful sculpture courtyard. It’s become super popular with locals and families!
Chef Marvin Robyn has put together an amazing seasonal menu with dishes that are bursting with flavor. Trust me, you won’t be disappointed. I just couldn’t get enough of the mouthwatering farmed cob served on a bed of crunchy corn and avo salsa, accompanied by prawn tortellini and prawn bisque. And the chicken tagliatelle Alfredo was just as fantastic! For dessert, I indulged in a heavenly crème brûlée.
