Ali and Fatima, the owners, have artfully blended traditional Persian and modern Iranian flavors to create a delightful menu. Tapi Tapi: The Sweet-Sweet Ice Cream Experience
Welcome to Tapi Tapi, a fantastic little ice cream parlor tucked away in Observatory. The name, meaning “sweet-sweet” in Shona, perfectly reflects the delightful treats you’ll find here. It’s like saying “yum-yum” in another language! I’ve got to tell you about the brilliant mind behind this place, Tapiwa Guzha. Not only is he a qualified microbiologist, but he’s also the most adventurous foodie I’ve ever come across.
Tapiwa draws inspiration from the delicious meals he enjoyed while growing up in his grandmother’s house in Zimbabwe. But his passion for ice cream was sparked by an episode of MasterChef. In that episode, the contestants used liquid nitrogen to create their ice creams. Tapiwa was instantly captivated and set out to make his own ice cream using a variety of indigenous African ingredients. His creations are truly one-of-a-kind!
At Tapi Tapi, there’s no fixed menu. Tapiwa loves to experiment with new flavors, constantly pushing the boundaries of what ice cream can be. To give you a taste of what to expect, he has previously concocted unique combinations like deep-fried dough with kei apple jam, caramelized plantain with ginger and fire-roasted peanuts, and even rooibos-infused ice cream with smoky undertones of wild sage. He has also paired salt-cured fish with toffee and crafted flavors using jujube dates, baobab, sorghum, and more. Tapiwa’s mission is about more than just ice cream; he wants to challenge and expand our palates, introducing us to new and exciting flavors.
When you visit Tapi Tapi, you’re not just getting a frozen treat – you’re embarking on a flavorful adventure. Tapiwa believes that ice cream is an enticing way to entice people into trying new things. It’s like a gateway to exciting flavor combinations and an exploration of culinary creativity.
If you’re wondering when to visit, Tapi Tapi is open from Tuesday to Sunday, starting at noon and closing at 7 pm. So, whether you want an afternoon delight or a post-dinner indulgence, Tapi Tapi has you covered.
If you have any questions or want to reach out to Tapi Tapi, you can contact them at 076 914 5614 or uncletaps@tapitapi.co.za. They’re always happy to hear from ice cream enthusiasts like us!
Now, the important part – where to find this ice cream wonderland. Tapi Tapi is situated at 76 Lower Main Road in the vibrant neighborhood of Observatory in Cape Town. So, next time you’re in the area, make sure to satisfy your sweet tooth at Tapi Tapi!

Welcome to Droom @Die Meul
I’m excited to tell you about a fantastic new place in the charming village of Philadelphia that is perfect for a delicious Sunday lunch. It’s located in an old flourmill that used to be the home and studio of Pieter van der Westhuizen, a talented artist. The atmosphere is full of nostalgia and charm, which adds to the unique experience.
When it comes to the food, you’re in for a treat! The talented chef, Anna Stofberg, brings her expertise from working with renowned chefs like Chantel Dartnall and Chris Erasmus. She has put her own twist on traditional South African boerekos (farm-style cooking) to create a menu that is both nostalgic and contemporary.
Think mouthwatering dishes like mosbolletjies and ciabatta, slow-cooked lamb and chicken pie, pumpkin fritters known as pampoenkoekies, and a tangy curried peach chutney called blatjang. These dishes are all served in a generous family-style format, just like the meals prepared by our grandmothers.
If you’re looking for a true farm-style dining experience that will leave your taste buds wanting more, Droom @Die Meul is the place to be. You’ll leave with dreams of our delicious food dancing in your head!

Discover Fryer’s Cove
Prepare to experience the magic of Fryer’s Cove, the closest vineyard to the Atlantic Ocean– no vineyard comes closer! Located in the Bamboes Bay ward, it was once a crayfish-packing factory that dates all the way back to 1925. This charming winery in Doringbaai on the West Coast is the ultimate destination for seafood enthusiasts. You can enjoy leisurely seafood lunches and wine-tasting right by the sea. The Jetty Restaurant, which is part of Fryer’s Cove’s community upliftment project, is run by local community members. Our winemaker, Liza Goodwin, creates amazing cool-climate wines that pair perfectly with West Coast specialties like oysters, snoek koekies (fish cakes), perlemoen risotto, pickled fish, and roosterkoek. You can also savor freshly caught linefish, tender calamari, and even abalone. On sunny days, you might even catch us grilling fish right on the jetty while the waves crash around us. It’s a truly unforgettable experience!
Opening Times: We are open from Wednesday to Sunday, 10 am to 6 pm.
Contact Us: You can reach us at 027 215 1092 or email us at admin@fryerscove.co.za.
Our Location: You can visit us at Portion #1 of the Old Fish Factory, Hawe Road, Doringbaai.
Welcome to Weltevrede Fig Farm
Come on over and experience the magic of one of the oldest fig farms in the country, tucked away in a serene valley beneath the majestic Swartberg mountains. It’s a bit of a bumpy ride along a dirt road, but trust me, the journey is well worth it!
When you visit our farm during fig season (which runs from the end of January to the end of April), you’ll witness the fascinating process of fig drying. Picture this: rows upon rows of figs basking in the warm rays of the sun, transforming into delicious treats right before your eyes. But that’s not all! You’ll also get to learn about the various types of figs we cultivate, from the small and sweet Cape brown figs to the luscious purple Adam figs.
With a staggering 2,000 fig trees spread across our farm, you might expect a bustling atmosphere. However, what sets us apart is our serene and relaxed vibe. Even amidst all the hard work, there’s always time for a refreshing beverage and a slice of our famous fig tart at our charming little tea shop. And if you’re looking for a place to stay, our self-catering farm cottages offer the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, all while being completely off the grid.
Don’t forget to stop by our farm shop, where you can find an array of delicious treats, including dried fruit, jams, and preserves. But beware, once you taste our fresh figs, you’ll never want to go back. So grab as many boxes as you can because trust me, you’ll be craving them more than you ever thought possible!
