It was a rainy Friday in Stellenbosch, and I found myself seeking refuge indoors. Little did I know, stepping off the street would transport me to a whole new world of wines. Brenda Karamba, a sommelier with an impressive wealth of knowledge, welcomed me and took me on a delightful journey through the Stellenbosch Wine Route. And the best part? It all unfolded within the confines of four walls.
When I walked into the Simon Wine Emporium, I was immediately captivated by the wall filled with wine bottles. It was like a work of art, and I couldn’t resist taking a few Insta-selfies to capture the moment. But as I looked closer, I realized that this place was more than just a pretty sight. It was a treasure trove of some of the finest wines South Africa has to offer.
What sets the Simon Wine Emporium apart from other wine stores is its exclusive focus on labels that are Wine of Origin Stellenbosch. This means that every wine you find here comes from the Stellenbosch region, known for producing some of the best wines in the country. It’s like a one-stop-shop for all things Stellenbosch wine.
Stepping into the Simon Wine Emporium feels like stepping into a world of sophistication and elegance. The shelves are lined with bottles, each one telling its own unique story. From smooth reds to crisp whites, there’s something here for every palate. Whether you’re a seasoned wine connoisseur or just starting to explore the world of wine, you’ll find something to delight your taste buds.
Hey there! Let me tell you about my incredible experience exploring the Stellenbosch Winelands. I had the opportunity to visit some of the best wineries in the area, and I want to share it with you.
First, let me give you a little background. The Stellenbosch Winelands is a beautiful region known for its exceptional wines. It’s like a treasure trove for wine connoisseurs like you and me! Now, let’s dive into the details. I explored the designated sub-routes of the Greater Simonsberg, Stellenbosch Berg, Stellenbosch Valley, Helderberg, and Bottelary Hills. Each of these areas has its own unique charm and produces wines that are truly distinct.
It’s fascinating how even the smallest factors can make such a difference in the taste of wine. Things like the specific location in the valley, the type of soil, and even the amount of ocean breeze that each winery receives play a role in shaping the character of the wine they produce.
Can you imagine the diversity and complexity you’ll find in each sip? Each winery I visited had its own personality, from the flavors to the aromas. It was like embarking on a flavorful adventure through the Stellenbosch Winelands.
If you’re a wine lover like me, you know how exciting it is to discover new wines and explore different regions. The Stellenbosch Winelands offers a wide range of options to satisfy your taste buds and expand your horizons.
So, if you’re looking for a memorable wine experience, I highly recommend making your way to the Stellenbosch Winelands. Trust me, you won’t be disappointed. Cheers to new adventures and amazing wine!

There are around 145 wines available for tasting from 73 different wineries on the Stellenbosch Wine Route. You’ll also find some special “old vine” wines that have been produced by vineyards that are at least 30 years old, as part of the Old Vine Project.
There are so many wines to taste, it can be a little overwhelming. That’s why I relied on Daniël Kriel, who co-owns the Emporium and De Warenmarkt restaurant where the tasting room is located, to help me choose. And Brenda was there to answer all of my questions about things like different types of barrels and how long to store the wine.
Did you know that the Emporium offers an extraordinary selection of wines? Not only do they have the usual wines you’d expect, but they also have a collection of rare, vintage wines that you won’t find anywhere else. These special wines come straight from the personal cellars of the winemakers themselves, making them truly unique and exclusive.
As I swirled a glass of Shiraz in front of the cozy fireplace, the lively atmosphere and the sound of the growing chatter reminded me that the weekend had finally arrived. And what better time to enjoy a good bottle of wine?
