If you haven’t heard of Nicky van der Walt’s Sandton restaurant, you’re in for a treat. The place caused quite a stir when it opened in May 2021. And now, their awesome Cape Town location, situated in the bustling Waterfront area, has made quite a name for itself. Opened in December 2022, this spot offers breathtaking views of the harbor, yacht basin, and Table Mountain. It’s no wonder that it recently snagged the prestigious title of Africa’s Best New Restaurant for 2023 at the World Culinary Awards!

The decor is a stunning blend of pale oak and marble with delicate touches of cherry blossoms. It has a lighter, more tropical vibe compared to its moody sibling in Joburg. As I step into the restaurant, I am immediately captivated by its elegant marble waterfall and the undeniable allure of the Champagne fridge and walk-in wine cellar. But the true luxury lies in its enviable location, right by the edge of the ocean. It’s a feast for the senses.

Sitting at one of the alfresco tables, I can’t help but marvel at the breathtaking view before me. From here, I have a perfect vantage point overlooking the bustling piazza of the Waterfront precinct. It’s the best seat in the house.
The menu is a harmonious blend of classic Cantonese eateries in Hong Kong and Japanese izakayas. The flavors are reminiscent of these culinary traditions but elevated to new heights. Cooked in traditional woks and on a robata grill, the dishes are infused with a delightful smokiness that adds depth and character.
