Discover Stellenzicht Wine Pod: A Wine-Tasting Experience in the Heart of Nature

Imagine yourself nestled among beautiful fynbos and wild grasses, surrounded by breathtaking views of Stellenbosch and the majestic Helderberg mountains. Here, you can escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life and immerse yourself in the tranquility of nature. Welcome to Stellenzicht Wine Pod, where you can enjoy an extraordinary wine-tasting experience in a serene and idyllic setting.

When I think about Stellenzicht Farm, I can’t help but feel a sense of wonder and admiration. Let me tell you why. Back in 2017, a German owner named Baron Hans von Staff-Reitzenstein took it upon himself to breathe new life into this 230-hectare farm. It had lost its former glory, but thanks to the Baron’s dedication, it has now been restored to its former splendor.

What makes Stellenzicht Farm truly remarkable is its commitment to sustainability and balance. I believe that these values are the cornerstone of their winemaking philosophy. They embrace regenerative farming practices and work in harmony with the terroir, the natural environment where their grapes grow. By doing so, they have managed to create wines that truly embody the voice of the land.

One of the most fascinating aspects of Stellenzicht Farm is their dedication to preserving the ecosystem. They have taken great care to welcome dragonflies back onto their piece of mountainside paradise. This demonstrates their deep respect for nature and their desire to coexist peacefully with the wildlife that surrounds them.

But it doesn’t end there. Stellenzicht Farm has also taken steps to minimize their environmental footprint. Their innovative wine pod is a perfect example of this commitment. Unlike traditional structures, it doesn’t require a concrete slab and can easily be moved. It harmoniously blends into the landscape, leaving only a minimal impact on the land.

Discover the magic of Stellenzicht Farm

Up in the splendid area of Stellenbosch’s Golden Triangle, you’ll find the slopes that hold something truly special: perfectly balanced, single-varietal wines. At the heart of it all is the talented winemaker L’Re Hughes, whose mission is to honor the voice of the land by working with its terroir in harmony with Nico Nortje, the skilled viticulturist. “We put our faith in the land,” says L’Re. “We allow the soils to create exceptional vineyards that have a long history of producing outstanding grapes on the Stellenzicht farm. We don’t try to push or alter what nature has already provided.” Their main focus lies on the grape varieties that have made the Stellenbosch area renowned – cabernet sauvignon, syrah, chardonnay, and cinsault. When you visit, you’ll have the chance to experience three different collections of wines, each with its own distinct character.

Price Thunderstone + single variety selections (R80 for 4 bottles)
Acheulean Red + Acheulean Chardonnay (R120 for 2 bottles)
The full Stellenzicht experience (R120 for 8 bottles excluding Acheulean)

Stellenzicht pizzas

A straightforward menu of thin-crust, crispy yet satisfyingly chewy pizzas made in a wood-fired oven is all you need to complement the wines and extend your wine-tasting into a relaxed lunch (we adored the pancetta and mushroom pizza paired with the Tristone Cabernet Sauvignon). Alternatively, there are delightful cheese and charcuterie platters stacked with soft ciabatta bread. Keeping things uncomplicated, there’s coffee to wrap up the experience and maybe a pasteis de nata for dessert.

Price R95 – R150 (pizzas)
R160 (cheese platter) + R50 (charcuterie)
