My partner and I recently went on an incredible adventure in the Western Cape. We had the privilege of visiting Aquila Game Reserve in Worcester, which is just a short two-hour drive from Cape Town. We also had the opportunity to explore Inverdoorn Private Game Reserve, which is only a 45-minute drive from Aquila.
During our visit, we were able to indulge in two unique and unforgettable safari experiences. At Aquila, we were treated to a luxurious safari, where every need and desire was catered to. The accommodations were top-notch, with spacious and comfortable lodges that provided the perfect blend of elegance and comfort. The staff at Aquila went above and beyond to ensure that our stay was nothing short of spectacular.
On the other hand, our time at Inverdoorn offered a more rustic safari experience. We had the opportunity to truly immerse ourselves in the natural beauty of the Western Cape. Our accommodations were simple and cozy, providing us with a sense of being one with nature. The rustic charm of Inverdoorn allowed us to disconnect from the outside world and truly appreciate the wildlife and stunning surroundings.
Overall, our visit to both Aquila and Inverdoorn was an incredible experience. Each safari offered its own unique charm and allowed us to create memories that will last a lifetime. If you’re looking for a safari experience in the Western Cape, I highly recommend considering a visit to both Aquila Game Reserve and Inverdoorn Private Game Reserve. Trust me, you won’t be disappointed!
When I arrived at Aquila Private Game Reserve, a feeling of relaxation and indulgence washed over me. I was immediately greeted with a glass of bubbly, setting the tone for what promised to be a delightful experience. We were led to the restaurant by the pool, where a friendly peacock displayed its vibrant feathers.
The buffet lunch at Aquila offered a wide array of options to satisfy every palate. From vegan pasta to a spread fit for meat enthusiasts, there was something for everyone. As I found my seat near the window, I couldn’t help but admire the beautiful view of the pool area and vast lawn. And the best part? You can go back for thirds or even fourths if you have a big appetite, since all meals are included in your stay package. Just remember that drinks are not included and will be billed separately.
As I stepped out of the restaurant, I couldn’t help but be captivated by the stunning view of the pool and pristine lawn that stretched out before me.
Once we settled into our room, we were delighted to find that it was perfectly situated, affording us a breathtaking view of the hills blanketed in fynbos. It was nice to be so close to the restaurant and other activities.
Before indulging in a delicious dinner, we decided to treat ourselves to a visit to the Tranquil Spa. As soon as we walked in, we were enveloped in an aura of tranquility. The warm tones, dangling wooden chandeliers, and serene music instantly put us at ease. We couldn’t resist the allure of the inviting heated pool, so we slipped in and let the cares of the day melt away.
The gentle sound of the water trickling added to the peaceful ambiance, and we spent the next hour luxuriating in the water. Whenever we needed fresh towels, they were just a quick reach away. Booking our treatments was a breeze too, with the option to do it on our way in or out of the spa.
The Tranquil Spa offers an impressive range of unique treatments. You’ll find private treatment rooms and even saunas available for your relaxation and rejuvenation. Whether it’s morning or night, you can enjoy these services from 10am until 10pm.
Without a doubt, one treatment we highly recommend is the head, neck, and shoulder massage. It’s an absolutely blissful experience that will leave you feeling refreshed and invigorated.
Welcome to the Tranquil Spa setting. It’s a peaceful retreat where you can relax and rejuvenate your mind, body, and soul.
Are you ready for an adventure? The first game drive starts at 5pm, and you’ll meet your driver just outside the reception area. So get ready to embark on a thrilling journey through the African wilderness.
The safari vehicle is cozy and comfortable, with blankets provided for each seat. You’ll be well-prepared for the safari experience. Each drive lasts between two and three hours, giving you ample time to explore and witness the beauty of nature.
During our drive, we were incredibly lucky to come across some magnificent creatures. We had the privilege of seeing lions, elephants, white rhinos, eland, springbok, giraffe, ostrich, and hippo up close. It was an unforgettable encounter with the wildlife of Africa.
Even if we had missed any of these amazing animals during our evening drive, we knew we could catch a glimpse of them the next morning. The 7am game drive also departs from the reception area. You can start your day with a cup of tea or coffee, served here from 6:30am.
Wow, check out this lioness I got to see during the evening safari. She was absolutely stunning.
So, instead of going on the 7am game drive like everyone else, I decided to try something different and signed up for the guided horseback safari. And get this, you don’t even need any previous horse riding experience! Can you believe it?
I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised by how friendly the horses were. It was such a cool experience getting to ride one of them while exploring the area. And the guide, oh man, they knew so much about the place. It was like having my own personal tour guide.
If horseback riding isn’t your thing, Aquila also offers a quad bike safari. I didn’t try it myself, but I heard it’s a pretty thrilling adventure. Maybe next time!
As I embarked on my horseback safari at Aquila, I couldn’t help but be captivated by the sheer joy on the faces of fellow guests. There’s something magical about the connection between humans and horses that can’t be replicated anywhere else.
But after a luxurious stay at Aquila, I wanted to experience a more rustic safari, so I set my sights on Inverdoorn. Located just a short 45-minute drive away from Aquila, off the R356 Sutherland Road, Inverdoorn promised a different kind of adventure.
Upon arriving at Inverdoorn, I checked in at the reception and was greeted by our friendly guide who took us on a tour of the grounds. As we explored, I couldn’t help but notice the inviting pool area and the tranquil cactus garden, where the tented areas provided a perfect retreat from the sun.
Inverdoorn has a one-of-a-kind pool area that sets it apart from other places. The accommodation choices at Inverdoorn are diverse, but I went with the cozy Tankwa Chalet that had a delightful porch, perfect for enjoying an afternoon beverage. At 1pm, I made my way to the restaurant for lunch. Each table is specifically reserved for guests, so you never have to worry about where to sit during your stay.
The lunch spread at Inverdoorn was absolutely amazing. There were two dessert options and so many delectable savory dishes that it was hard to keep track of them all. It was a dreamy feast that satisfied all my cravings.
Welcome to the Tankwa Chalet! I had the pleasure of experiencing the game drive at Inverdoorn, and let me tell you, it was like no other safari I’ve ever been on.
Our amazing ranger, a woman, took us on an incredible adventure that opened our eyes to some very important issues concerning the well-being of wild animals.
At Inverdoorn, they are committed to rehabilitating cheetahs, and they currently have 14 under their care. It’s truly remarkable to see how dedicated they are to these animals.
But here’s the most exciting part: Inverdoorn is the only place where you can witness something they call the “Cheetah Run.” Are you ready for this?
To get the cheetahs moving, the rangers have rigged up a clever system using a rope and a flag. The flag zips across the enclosure, just like the rabbits that greyhounds love to chase. And guess what? The cheetahs instinctively give chase to the flag! It’s an incredible sight to behold.
However, there’s one male cheetah who’s quite clever. He’s discovered that he doesn’t have to run to get his next meal. So while the others are dashing after the flag, he casually strolls along, knowing he’ll be fed regardless. Smart guy, don’t you think?
When you join me on the drive, you’ll experience the incredible speed of the cheetahs up close and personal.
I was amazed by the incredible sight of cheetahs sprinting after their prey. It was like they were racing to capture the flag!
During my visit to Inverdoorn safari, I noticed that it had a more intimate atmosphere compared to Aquila. There were fewer guests, which made the experience even more special.
While on the safari, I learned about the sad reality of canned lions. It was heartwarming to see that two rescued lions were given a safe haven at the reserve. We had the opportunity to meet them up close during an early morning safari, where they greeted us with fearless roars. Witnessing their power and listening to their resounding calls was truly an unforgettable experience.
However, among all the remarkable animals, one creature stood out the most – Harry, the ‘special’ ostrich. We were told that Harry had a unique personality. He didn’t quite get along with female ostriches, but whenever safari guests arrived, he would put on a lively mating dance. It was both hilarious and endearing to watch. Harry even followed our safari truck for a while before bidding us farewell. He left a lasting impression on us.
When I saw Harry’s dance, I couldn’t help but smile.
After our safari, we went back to our cozy chalet to freshen up for dinner. We were excited to try the set menu at the restaurant.
The chef cooked the yellowtail, a fish that’s safe for the environment, to perfection. The wines they served with it were a perfect match.
If you’re a vegetarian, just let the restaurant staff know ahead of time, and they’ll make a special meal just for you.
And then came dessert – chocolate eclairs drizzled with chocolate. They were so good, they blew us away and ended the meal perfectly.
If you ask me, there’s something magical about a crackling fire. Not only does it provide warmth, but it also creates a cozy and inviting atmosphere. It’s like having a close friend who wraps you in a comforting embrace.
As I reflect on my recent vacation, I can’t help but feel a mix of emotions. On one hand, it feels like I’ve been away for ages, soaking in every moment of bliss. But on the other hand, it feels like time slipped through my fingers, leaving me longing for more.
During my time at Aquila Private Game Reserve, I was treated like royalty. The whole experience oozed extravagance, from the luxurious accommodations to the impeccable service. I was truly pampered and felt like a VIP.
At Inverdoorn Wildlife Sanctuary, I encountered some of the most incredible creatures on this planet. From majestic lions to graceful giraffes, I was in awe of their beauty and power. But it wasn’t just the animals that left a mark on me; it was also the people I met along the way. Their passion for wildlife and conservation was contagious, and it made the experience even more special.
If you’re in search of your next vacation destination, let me tell you, these safari spots should be right at the top of your list. Trust me, you won’t be disappointed. The memories you’ll make and the connections you’ll form are priceless. So pack your bags, embark on an adventure, and create memories that will last a lifetime.
