Spend a Fun Day on the River with Bundi Adventures and OBiKWA Wines
So, guess what? I recently went river rafting on the Breede River with the awesome team at Bundi Adventures and they even shared some delicious OBiKWA wines with us. I was so excited to tell my friends about it, but they all seemed worried, saying things like, “Uh-oh, that’s going to be a disaster!” They were picturing me trying to paddle down a wild river, drink in hand, and ending up soaked. Well, let me tell you, it was nothing like that at all!
First of all, I didn’t end up soaked or with wine in my hand while rowing. And the river? It was actually pretty calm and peaceful. The whole experience was incredibly enjoyable, and the best part is that you don’t have to be the most athletic person to have a great time. The team at Bundi Adventures focuses on making sure everyone has a blast outdoors in a safe environment, and that’s exactly what happened.
Hey there! Ready for an epic adventure? Let’s explore six amazing river journeys in South Africa, featuring the spectacular Breede River!
My day started early in Cape Town as I drove to Bundi Breede River Camp just outside Worcester. The camp is located on the beautiful banks of the Breede River, where I was about to embark on a day of rowing and adventure. But before I could even think about that, breakfast was the first order of business. And let me tell you, I needed all the energy I could get!
Upon arrival, I indulged in a delicious spread which included muffins, toast, cereal, and yogurt. Of course, there was plenty of coffee to go around too. With my belly full, it was time for the safety briefing. Paul Rode, the owner of Bundi Adventures, took the lead and showed us how to properly sit in the boat. He emphasized sitting towards the back, even if it feels a bit precarious, for better stability. He also gave us a crash course on paddle technique, reminding us not to use it as a weapon against our paddling partners (no matter how frustrated they might make us!). And most importantly, he taught us how to assist someone back into the canoe if they happened to take an unexpected dip in the water. Apparently, it involves a little dunking and a whole lot of pulling!
Once we were all fitted with lifejackets, hats, and slathered in sunblock, it was time to hit the water. The group eagerly set off for a morning of exploration and fun. As I paddled along the river, taking in the serene surroundings, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of adventure and excitement. With each stroke, I felt more connected to the water and the natural beauty that surrounded me.
Alright, let me tell you about my little adventure. So, picture this – I spent the next few hours cruising down twisty waterways, ducking under branches, and even braving some bumpy rapids. Oh, but don’t get too comfortable. We switched rowing partners every now and then, just to keep things interesting. It was a great way to get to know everyone and discover who had a knack for steering and who was absolutely terrified of bugs.
As we made our way along, we stuck together like glue, chatting away and playing a game of dodgem-boats in those tight spots. Can you believe it? We had a blast! We laughed till our bellies hurt, took refreshing dips in the water, and devoured so many juicy oranges – we practically turned into fruit!
But, as they say, all good things must come to an end. And before I knew it, it was time to bid farewell to the river. With a tinge of sadness, we hauled our boats out of the water, memories of this amazing adventure firmly etched in our minds.
Once the crew had finished loading up the canoes and paddles, we were transported back to base camp. All we could think about was taking a nice, refreshing shower and indulging in a delicious barbecue, accompanied by a few glasses of OBiKWA’s lively wine. After spending the day basking in the warm sunshine, we were treated to a hearty plate of chicken and sausage, accompanied by a variety of fresh salads. Our glasses were constantly being filled with wine, and for dessert, we enjoyed the sweet pleasure of Lindt chocolate balls. The combination of good food, good wine, and good company made it difficult to resist the temptation of spending the night in one of the cozy cabins and prolonging our stay, instead of heading back to Cape Town. It was a dreamy way to end the day, and the thought of a long, blissful sleep seemed too enticing to resist.
“You know, when I’m out on the river, it’s like I’ve escaped from reality for an entire week,” Paul remarked with a smile. And you know what? He’s absolutely right. But hey, don’t just take my word for it. Gather your buddies, your loved ones, or maybe even your work pals for a day away from the daily grind. Just a little heads up though – coming back to the real world might prove to be quite the challenge!
