Explore Kaapschehoop, Mpumalanga for 48 Hours!
Whenever I want to go on a weekend adventure, my partner and I like to search Airbnb for a cozy yet affordable place to stay. Recently, we discovered a hidden gem called Kaapschehoop in Mpumalanga, and we couldn’t wait to check it out.
This charming village feels like it jumped straight out of a fairy tale. The houses are painted in vivid colors, and as you enter, you’ll spot a vibrant blue passion wagon. But the most enchanting part? The wild horses that roam freely, almost like they own the place.
Even though 48 hours is not nearly enough to fully experience everything Kaapschehoop has to offer, you’ll cherish every single moment you spend there.
Day one:
I love going on hikes, and one of my favorite trails to explore is the Escarpment Hike. It’s a really popular hike in this area because it offers breathtaking views. You can start your day by following the trail along the escarpment for as long as you want before turning back. As you walk, keep an eye out for the wild horses that like to roam between the rocks. If you’re up for a challenge, you can even continue on to Adam’s Calendar, which is a 6.8 km loop that takes you to ‘Africa’s Stonehenge.’
Another great activity is to pack a picnic basket and take a short drive to the Pear Orchard Picnic Site. This spot is perfect for spending a relaxing afternoon surrounded by nature. There are benches, tables, and braai facilities available for your use, or you can simply spread out a picnic blanket by the river and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere. You might even get a visit from one of the horses nearby.
So if you’re looking for an adventure and a chance to connect with nature, the Escarpment Hike and the Pear Orchard Picnic Site are both fantastic options. Get out there and explore the beauty of this area while enjoying some quality time outdoors.
If you’re looking for a great way to end your day in Kaapschehoop, I recommend visiting Salvadors. It’s a lively spot where the locals like to hang out, and they serve the finest pizzas in town. The atmosphere inside is always nice and toasty, especially on those cold days. It’s the perfect place to wind down after a good day.
To enjoy the Escarpment Walk and Pear Orchard, you’ll need to purchase permits. You can do this at Platanna Gift and Decor or at Bohemian Groove Cafe for R30 per person.
Day two:
Start your morning with an adrenaline rush by going on a Scootour through the forest. This guided tour covers 6 km and takes you through grasslands, plantations, and indigenous forests. You’ll also get to see beautiful rock formations and streams along the way. The tour ends at Battery Creek, where you can cool off with a swim in the refreshing rock pool.
Hey there! Let me tell you about this groovy little spot called Bohemian Groove Cafe. It’s a perfect fit for the village vibes, with the staff rocking bohemian outfits that match the restaurant’s decor. And let me tell you, the food there is absolutely delicious! But that’s not all – on Sundays, they even have live band performances that will get you in a festive mood for the week ahead. It’s a real treat!
As your two-day trip in this beautiful village comes to an end, why not take a leisurely stroll through the charming little stores and shops? There’s a treasure trove of hidden gems waiting for you in the gift and thrift stores. And as you wander the village streets, you can admire the unique houses and buildings that make this place so special. Oh, and don’t forget to catch one last glimpse of the wild horses before you head home or move on to your next adventure. It’s a magical sight!
