Everything about Sonny and Irene is delightful – from the soft pink colors to the elegant marble and oak decorations. It’s like stepping into a nostalgic world with a modern twist. The café perfectly captures the essence of Sea Point, both past and present. Oh, and let me add that it’s one of the most beautiful spots in the neighborhood!

When I stepped into the stunning surroundings, I was immediately struck by the unique blend of retro, classic, and contemporary flavors that chef Amber Deetlefs has crafted. From indulgent dishes like steak Diane and seafood Pithivier to lighter options like truffle risotto and an ancient-grains salad, there is something for everyone.
The starter we tried, the house brisket burnt ends with mustards, pickles, Karoo bossie, and crisp flatbread, was an absolute delight. The combination of flavors was unlike anything I had ever tasted before, and each bite left me longing for more.
The main courses were equally impressive. The tiger prawns with citrus beurre blanc were cooked to perfection, and the tangy sauce elevated the flavors to new heights. The lamb cutlets with potato purée and minted peas were tender and juicy, the perfect combination of savory and refreshing.
I couldn’t help but marvel at how the chef was able to bring together such a diverse range of ingredients and flavors and create a menu that is both sophisticated and approachable. In the heart of it all lies the bakery, where Chef Chris Morrison crafts a variety of breads, bagels, buns, and more. These delectable creations appear throughout the menu, like the prawn baguette with avocado ritz trimmings, the charcoal-grilled hot dog, the buttermilk hot cakes, and the cheese, onion, and truffle croissant jaffle. Of course, there’s also an enticing sweets and pastry cart.
Hey there! So, as a restaurant that’s open all day long, our breakfast menu is really something special. We’ve got all kinds of signature eggs, prepared in more ways than you can count – okay, I might be exaggerating a little, but trust me, it’s a lot!
