So, guess what? Fritz and Chanelle Schoon, the awesome owners of Schoon De Companje in Stellenbosch, recently announced that they were closing down their beloved café. Can you believe it? I know, I know, we were all devastated when we heard the news.
Why were we so bummed about it, you ask? Well, let me tell you. This place wasn’t just any old café. It was a special spot where we could all gather, chat, and enjoy a cup of joe with a delicious pastry, breakfast, or a light meal. Plus, their deli section was a total savior when we needed to stock up on our favorite goodies before heading home. It was like a little piece of heaven right in the heart of Bird and Church Streets.
Lucky for us in Stellenbosch, the Schoons gave their old shop to the Boschendal Wines owners. They believe in ethical and sustainable farming, just like we do. They changed the name back to Boschendal at Oude Bank, and they still serve delicious food and drinks.
HEY SOMERSET WEST!
But let’s talk about Fritz and Chanelle for a moment… if you’re curious about what they’ve been up to since selling to Boschendal five months ago, wonder no more! They’ve just opened a tiny little shop in Somerset West. And let me tell you, it’s quite something. According to Fritz, this move represents a return to the core values of Schoon: scrumptious food, sustainable and real ingredients, and a cozy atmosphere. Oh, and let’s not forget their love for quality bread. In order to focus on these essential elements, Fritz and Chanelle had to make some big decisions and make some changes. They wanted to go back to what made their small bakery so special a few years back.
And you know what? The Somerset West community has been incredibly welcoming to this new venture. Fritz says they have always received tons of support from their Somerset West fans. It’s clear that this little shop is going to fit right in and become a favorite spot for locals.
Hey there! Have you ever been to Bright Street in Somerset West? It’s just like Bree Street with all its hustle and bustle. Well, right there on Bright Street is a fantastic little shop that you absolutely have to check out. They’ve got plenty of parking, both in front of and behind the building. You can even access the parking through a driveway on the right. So convenient!
Do you miss Stellies?
Don’t worry, because the amazing couple behind this shop has more in store for you. They’re planning to open up another shop in Stellenbosch soon. You can count on it! And that’s not all. They’ve got a Schoon Manufactory in the works too. It’s going to be a super cool experimental kitchen and bakery that focuses on grains. How cool is that? If you want to stay updated on all the exciting things happening at Schoon, make sure to subscribe to their newsletter.
If you’re wondering about their opening times, here you go. They’re open from Tuesday to Friday, starting bright and early at 7am and closing at 3pm.
