One of my personal favorites at Scala Pasta Bar is their Truffle Mac and Cheese. It’s a heavenly combination of creamy cheese sauce, al dente macaroni, and the rich earthiness of truffle oil. It’s like a party in your mouth! And if you’re a seafood lover like me, you have to try their Lobster Linguine. The tender lobster meat paired with silky linguine and a garlic butter sauce is pure perfection.

Hey there! I’ve got an exciting story for you. So, picture this – consultant chef Luciano Monosilio, who happens to be the youngest chef in Italy to earn a Michelin star, came up with the brilliant concept for the menu at Scala. Now, Luciano is a great friend of the owners at Scala, and he’s been kind enough to share his secret recipe with the talented team, led by executive chef Justin Barker. Trust me, you’re going to love what they’ve created – it’s called spaghetti alla carbonara! It’s absolutely divine, with a velvety golden sauce that will blow you away. And there’s more – crispy bits of pork cheek called guanciale add a delightful salty crunch to this modern twist on a timeless favorite.
A Celebration of Pasta
All the pasta at the restaurant is made right here in our pasta lab. We create silky smooth ribbons of egg pappardelle with a savory chicken ragu. Our pici is hand-rolled and made with 00 flour. It’s fat and delicious, especially when paired with a creamy cacio e pepe sauce. Our plin is a small package filled with slow-cooked beef shin in a rich jus that’s so good, you’ll need a spoon.
Our oven-baked pasta is anything but ordinary. Our paccheri is stuffed with ricotta and basil and served in a rustic tomato sauce. The presentation is unique, with vertical pillars of pasta that transport your taste buds to the south of Italy.
We don’t waste any of our pasta-making offcuts. Instead, we transform them into a delectable pasta lollipop, coated in a truffle sauce. It’s a bite of pure pleasure that welcomes you to our restaurant.
But pasta isn’t the only thing we do well. Our antipasti are true works of art. Each dish is carefully crafted to delight your senses and prepare your palate for the pasta feast to come.
Let’s begin with some delicious antipasto dishes to share. They’re perfect for starting the meal. I tried the beef-shin meatballs with salsa verde and sweet mustard. They were so hearty and flavorful. Next, I had a unique prawn and tomato consommé with burrata foam. It was delicate and tasty. And finally, I enjoyed the rustic chargrilled melanzane. It had all the delicious flavors of melanzane alla Parmigiana, but in a deconstructed form.
Time for an Aperitivo: Cheers!
Scala takes you on a journey to the Mediterranean with its irresistible pre-dinner treats and appetizers. During aperitivo hour, you can delight in the special cicchetti menu, pronouncing it cheek-etti. The menu features tempting options like burrata with focaccia croutons, chargrilled seabass with hummus, and many more mouthwatering bites.
And let me tell you about the aperitivi. The signature cocktails alone are worth a visit. You can indulge in three different negronis or sip on seductive spritzes with elderflower, prosecco, blood orange, and raspberry. If that’s not enough, there are also Italian twists on classic cocktails. Plus, wine lovers will be thrilled with the extensive selection of local and Italian wines.
Did you know? If you purchase any two cicchetti for R79 each, you’ll receive a free Martini Prosecco, Fiero Spritz, or Negroni Sbagliato. Sound good? Well, it gets even better! This offer is available every day from 4pm to 5.30pm, Monday through Sunday, except on First Thursdays. Isn’t that exciting?
