Salushi: The Best Sushi Spot in Cape Town’s Southern Suburbs
Salushi is the place to be for amazing sushi and a friendly atmosphere in Claremont.
When was the last time you visited Salushi? If it’s been a while, you should definitely check out their new(ish) location. For the past 15 years, Salushi has been the top choice for wonderfully fresh sushi in the southern suburbs. Now, they’ve made themselves at home in a cozy old house behind Cavendish Square. With its wooden floorboards, exposed brick walls, and simple yet stylish decor, Salushi has a warm and inviting atmosphere. During the winter months, you can cozy up by the wood-burning fireplace, or if you prefer, relax on the comfy yellow sofa and enjoy a delicious cocktail from their newly added bar. On sunny days, you can’t resist sitting at one of the tables in their hidden courtyard, surrounded by beautiful lush greenery and towering yellowwood trees.
When it comes to Salushi, one thing that always stands out is the amazing atmosphere. As soon as you walk through the door, you’ll feel a warm and friendly welcome. Grant Isaacs, the owner, and his team, who have been here since the very beginning in 2008, go above and beyond to make your experience enjoyable. They’re not just great at what they do, but they’re also entertaining and efficient.
But let’s not forget about the real star of the show – the sushi. Salushi offers an incredible variety of both traditional favorites and unique creations. You can’t go wrong with classics like the Bon Bon’s Gift, a mouthwatering salmon-wrapped fashion sandwich topped with mayo and caviar. And if you’re feeling adventurous, try the Prawn Passion Roll: a fried delight with a light batter, topped with teriyaki sauce, Japanese mayo, and spring onion.
More than just sushi
If you’re not really feeling sushi, a short menu of delicious Asian dishes might be just the thing for you. It’s great to have some options, especially on those cold and rainy nights when you need something warm and comforting. Salushi has got you covered with their Thai coconut prawn curry, Thai green chicken curry, and three different noodle dishes. And if you’re into seafood, you’ll love their grilled Norwegian salmon, tempura prawns, and seared tuna tataki. They also offer build-your-own poke bowls, perfect for customizing your meal just the way you like it.
A Sweet Treat
But wait, it gets even better. How about indulging in some deep-fried Lindt balls? They’re absolutely decadent and worth every bite. If you’re not in the mood for that level of sweetness, you can always go for the Unframed ice cream or a fancy chocolate mousse.
This Claremont sushi spot is really impressive. They know how to keep things interesting and offer a variety of dishes for everyone’s taste.
