Hey there! I wanted to tell you about these amazing dinners happening once a month until December. There are only 20 tickets available for each event, so you better grab yours quickly!
I gotta say, the Swartland is a pretty special place when it comes to wine and the people behind it. The founder and chef of The Barn, Thomas Jamneck, knows just how incredible it is. He says the Swartland is home to some of the best wines and wine personalities around.
And here’s the really cool part: The Barn is creating a platform to showcase this amazing diversity! They want people from nearby towns and cities to have a chance to experience these dinners. It’s like bringing a taste of the city to the countryside, or the countryside to the city, depending on how you look at it.
So, if you’re a wine lover or just someone who enjoys a good time, you definitely don’t want to miss out on this. Get your tickets now before they’re all gone!
Let me tell you about Thomas, a person who really supports local producers. When you go to his restaurant, you’ll notice that most of the wines on the list come from the region. It’s a cozy place with a great atmosphere, both inside and outside. You can sit comfortably and enjoy not only delicious food but also beautiful views of the village and the valley beyond.
I want to share with you the story of the first dinner that Thomas organized on July 1st. It was a special evening that set the tone for many more to come. The star of the evening was Intellego Wines and the winemaker, Jurgen Gouws. But what does Intellego mean? Well, it’s actually a Latin word that means “understanding”. And you know why it’s so important to Jurgen? Because he believes that understanding wine and its story is crucial.
I’m located in the Paardeberg area, where my winery produces a delightful range of eight natural wines. I work with different vineyards to source the best fruit for my wines. It all started back in 2008 when I did my first harvest in Swartland, and I instantly fell in love with the unique approach that local wine producers have.
Let me tell you about some of my favorite wines. One of them is The Pink Moustache, a delicious red blend. Another is The Sleeping Co-pilot, which is a Viognier wine that will make your taste buds dance. And then there’s The Story of Harry, a wonderful white blend that’s worth every sip.
Recently, I had the pleasure of pairing my wines with a fantastic evening menu. The dishes included Patagonian calamari cooked in homemade butter and sprinkled with garlic and pink peppercorns – a true delight for seafood lovers. We also had a refreshing ceviche and a mouthwatering dish of spicy pork belly served on a bed of sweet potato mash with a litchi mousse. And let’s not forget the succulent Karoo lamb cutlets.
Let me tell you about the upcoming wine program and the incredible wines you can expect to taste.
We have an internationally acclaimed winemaking team, Chris and Andrea Mullineux, who are known for their involvement in the Swartland Revolution and their award-winning wines. They have put the Swartland region on the map by showcasing the old vines and ancient soils of the area. As the 4-time South African Winery of the Year, they have a lot to offer. You can look forward to experiencing some of their most important wines, including the Old Vines White, Single Terroir Syrah’s, and Straw Wine.
Another winery you’ll get to explore is Knolfontein. Their wines come from the vineyards of Du Toit Family Wines in the Riebeek Valley. This boutique range represents heritage, excellence, and unique expression. Pieter du Toit, a fourth-generation farmer, has recently launched his own niche brand. Up until now, he has been selling his grapes, but he has decided to take the leap and create his own wines from his best vineyards.
I grew up in the Eastern Cape and started out studying to become a chef. But then my passion led me down a different path – winemaking. In 2014, I launched The Blacksmith, a wine project that is all about natural wines. I ferment my wines with native yeast and keep sulphur exposure minimal. Some of the wines I produce include Barebones Pet-Nat, Hell Yeah Pinotage, and The Horseman Pale Rider.
Vine Venom made quite a splash when it released its first wine, Serenade 2015, and it made it to the WineMag Top 10 Cap Classique list. Since then, Samantha Suddons, the winemaker based in Swartland, has been making waves with her focus on Méthode Champenoise. She’s also known for her Chenin Blanc skin contact, Flor, Rosé, and Syrah wines. Her range includes Silence Chenin Blanc and Satellites Red.
Hey there! Let me tell you a little story about MC Stander, a talented winemaker and viticulturist from Namibia. His incredible journey in the world of wine began in 2006, and since then, he has worked with different wine producers before eventually founding Equinox Wines in 2018. What’s unique about MC is that he draws inspiration from the traditional winemaking methods of Beaujolais, resulting in extraordinary natural wines.
Equinox Wines offers a range of exceptional blends that will make you want to say, “Wish You Were Here!” There’s the delightful red blend, Keep It Loose, and the refreshing white blend, Find Your Happy Place. These wines are crafted with care and passion, bringing together the best flavors from the Swartland region.
Now, let me share some exciting news with you. The experience of savoring these incredible wines doesn’t end with just the event. Even if you don’t manage to snag a ticket, you can still enjoy the featured wines at The Barn. You can sip them by the glass or savor them by the bottle, but remember, this offer is available only while stocks last. So, grab your chance to taste these exceptional wines!
If you’re in the mood for an unforgettable wine experience, head over to The Barn located at 34 Church Street, Riebeek Kasteel. They’re open for lunch and dinner from Wednesday to Saturday, and they even serve a scrumptious breakfast on Saturday and Sunday. Trust me, this is a place you don’t want to miss.
