Remember, life’s greatest treasures are often found off the beaten path. It’s time to go and find yours.
My Dad and I embarked on a road trip up the KZN coast, armed with tents, biltong, and beer. Our mission? To uncover the hidden gems of the region for an upcoming issue of Getaway magazine.
Before we delve into our journey, let me give you some context. As it turns out, anything north of Richards Bay can be found within the expansive iSimangaliso Wetland Park. This stunning park covers a large stretch of KZN’s coastline and is home to some of the most magnificent beaches in the region. For our adventure, we decided to focus on the lesser-known beaches within iSimangaliso, intentionally excluding popular spots like Mabibi, St Lucia, and Cape Vidal to offer a fresh perspective.
My adventure started at Kosi Mouth, where my friends and I embarked on an epic road trip. We hit the road, driving along the picturesque D1850 sand road, passing stunning places like Black Rock, Rocktail Bay, Lala Nek, and Island Rock. Our journey took us inland, back to the N2, before we veered towards the coast again, reaching Mapelane and a string of beautiful beaches just north of Richards Bay.
As we continued our coastal expedition, we were greeted by one deserted bay after another. The sun-kissed water sparkled, inviting us to dive in and explore the vibrant underwater world. Along the way, we also discovered thrilling 4×4 paths that added an extra element of excitement to our trip. And the best part? The accommodation prices were surprisingly affordable, making our adventure even more enjoyable.
Now, I know some of you might be thinking about how safe these remote beaches are. Well, let me tell you, we didn’t have any problems during our trip, but we did hear some stories. Apparently, there have been cases of cars being broken into while people were enjoying the shores. So, here’s my advice: go in a group. It’s always safer that way. And if you’re really concerned, you can hire a guard from where you’re staying to keep an eye on your vehicle. That way, you can fully enjoy the solitude and crystal-clear waters of these amazing beaches without any worries. Trust me, it’s worth it.
If you want to explore these captivating beaches in more detail, including their GPS coordinates, you should check out the February 2016 issue of Getaway magazine.
If you’re looking to visit Kosi Mouth, the nearest place to stay is Utshwayelo Lodge, located just 2.5km away from the beach.
Imagine a place called Black Rock Bay, a welcoming haven for a small group of fishermen.
Have you ever gazed upon the crystal-clear waters of Lala Nek? It’s a sight to behold, with its pristine beauty and sparkling waves. The moment I laid eyes on it, I was struck with a sense of awe and wonder. The water seemed to dance and shimmer, inviting me to dive right in. And let me tell you, once I did, I was not disappointed.
There’s something magical about being submerged in the cool, refreshing embrace of Lala Nek’s waters. It’s as if all your worries and troubles melt away, and you’re transported to a tranquil oasis. The gentle ripples lap at your skin, soothing every ache and worry. I felt completely weightless, floating effortlessly amidst the ebbing tide.
But it’s not just the physical aspect of Lala Nek that makes it so incredible; it’s the spiritual and emotional experience as well. The serenity and calmness that wash over you as you immerse yourself in the water is truly indescribable. It’s a moment of pure bliss, a chance to connect with nature in its most raw and untouched form.
And it’s not just the water itself that is captivating; it’s also the surrounding environment. Picture-perfect, vibrant greenery lines the banks of the Nek, creating a symphony of color that complements the clear waters exquisitely. It’s nature in its most alive and vibrant state, a true feast for the eyes.
So, if you’re searching for an escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, I highly recommend a visit to Lala Nek. Whether you’re seeking serenity, adventure, or simply a chance to reconnect with yourself, you’ll find it here. I guarantee you won’t be disappointed.
My beloved beach, Lala Nek, was the highlight of my trip. It offered me everything I desired – warm water and peaceful shores. It was like having a slice of paradise all to myself. The moment I stepped onto its sandy surface, I felt a wave of tranquility wash over me. The crystal-clear water beckoned me to dive in and experience its soothing embrace.
As I waded into the ocean, the water enveloped me with its warmth. It felt like a comforting hug from Mother Nature herself. The gentle lapping of the waves against my skin was a gentle caress, a welcome respite from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
What made Lala Nek even more special was the lack of crowds. Unlike other beaches that are teeming with people, Lala Nek was an oasis of solitude. I had the entire stretch of shoreline to myself, and I relished in the serenity it offered. I could unwind and let my worries drift away with the ebb and flow of the tide.
It’s fascinating how nature can have such a profound impact on our well-being. The sights, sounds, and sensations of Lala Nek awakened a sense of wonder within me. I couldn’t help but feel a deep connection to the world around me. The beauty of the beach inspired me to reflect on the many blessings in my life.
No trip to Lala Nek would be complete without indulging in some beach activities. I built sandcastles, played beach volleyball, and took long walks along the shoreline. Each moment was filled with joy and laughter, creating memories that would last a lifetime.
If you’re in search of the perfect beach getaway, look no further than Lala Nek. Its warm waters and tranquil shores make it an ideal destination for relaxation and rejuvenation.
