Hey, did you know that there’s a farmers’ market in Cape Town called the Oranjezicht City Farm Market? Well, here’s the cool thing – it’s not actually in Oranjezicht, but at Granger Bay by the V&A Waterfront. The market happens every Saturday and Sunday morning, and in the summer, they even have Wednesday evening markets. How awesome is that?
Now, let me tell you a bit about this market. It’s run by the same folks who started the urban farm in Oranjezicht. They’re really into community farming and artisanal culture, so you know you’re supporting a good cause when you visit.
And let me just say, the views at this market are absolutely breathtaking. You’ve got the sea on one side and mountains on the other. The market is all covered up with stretch tents and pergolas, so you don’t have to worry about the weather trying to ruin your day.
Now, let’s talk about the good stuff – the food. You can get the freshest veggies and herbs straight from the farm. It’s like doing your grocery shopping in paradise. And if you’re into seasonal fruit, bread, cheese, organic dairy products, free-range eggs, raw honey, and ethical meats and seafood, this is your spot.
Oh, and did I mention they’ve got rare and heirloom produce? Yeah, it’s a treasure trove for food enthusiasts.
In our market, you’ll find a lifestyle section where we sell a variety of carefully selected, sustainable clothing, beachwear, decor, ceramics, vintage items, skincare products, pet accessories, houseplants, and farm-to-vase flowers. We also offer special workshops on various topics, from cooking to crafts.
A relaxed atmosphere for everyone
If you’re here for the food (and you should be!), we have a fantastic selection of food stalls with cooked and raw dishes to suit every taste and dietary preference. Whether you’re a carnivore, a chocoholic, a vegan, or a diabetic, there’s something for you. Explore the flavors of the world, from Africa and Europe to the East and West, and try something new at our glorious multicultural cookout. As our market founder, Sheryl Ozinsky, puts it: “This is a place where we talk about food with as much passion as we eat it.”
Hey, find yourself a spot at one of the outdoor tables and take in the scenery. There’s lots of room for the kids and the furry friends, who will enjoy the live music and the laid-back atmosphere.
The Night Market
Just in time for summer, the Wednesday Night Market at OZCF is back in business (until April) from 5pm to 9pm, making the most of Cape Town’s longer evenings. Wednesdays are all about the vibe, the food, and the drinks (you can find five bars serving everything from craft beers and spirits to natural wines and mocktails), so it’s the perfect place for after-work drinks or an early family dinner!
This season, Twyg has also teamed up with the night market to showcase “slow fashion” alongside the delicious slow food, so you can satisfy both your eyes and your appetite.
