My Childhood Home in Linden

Linden has always held a special place in my heart. It has a cozy, small-town feel that brings back cherished memories. I’ve lived here since I was five years old, and even at the age of 74, I still feel a strong connection to this community. Back in the day, Linden was a rural paradise with numerous family farms and thriving peach orchards. It was crowned for its juicy peaches, celebrated far and wide.

When I was growing up, the property stands were divided into three separate portions, each one designated for a shop. The business that my parents started around 65 years ago still thrives to this day, with two of my children actively involved. Now, we proudly stand as the third generation, and even my only grandchild attends the very same school I once did.

One particular memory that stands out in my mind is our headmaster, Mr. Koos, and his unusual antics. Every now and then, he would bring his adorable Jersey cow onto the rugby field for a snack. It was quite the sight to see, and it always brought a smile to our faces.

Over time, Linden began to undergo changes. The introduction of shopping centers, new restaurants, and an increase in housing transformed the area. However, despite these developments, Linden has managed to maintain its charm and escape the hustle and bustle of the city.

Today, it’s still a wonderful and inviting place to call home. It exudes a warmth and friendliness that you don’t often find in urban areas.
