My Favorite Spots to Eat in Napier
Every year, the charming village of Napier hosts a delightful festival to honor the beloved sweet potato. This event, known locally as the “Patat Festival,” takes place right after the harvest and offers a marvelous array of activities to delight locals and visitors alike. From a captivating half marathon and thrilling cycling race to captivating classic car exhibitions and captivating art displays, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
But let’s talk about the most important part: the food! As a potato enthusiast and a lover of quaint country towns, there was no way I was going to let this year’s festival pass me by without trying some of the delicious treats on offer.
Here are a few of my top picks for restaurants and farmstalls in Napier:
The Potato Patch
If you’re craving some mouthwatering sweet potato dishes, you can’t go wrong with The Potato Patch. This charming eatery offers a variety of delectable options, from crispy fries to creamy mashed potatoes. Their sweet potato gnocchi is an absolute must-try!
The Farmhouse Kitchen
For a taste of hearty, home-cooked meals made with love, The Farmhouse Kitchen is the place to be. Indulge in their sweet potato casserole or dive into a comforting bowl of sweet potato soup. Trust me, you’ll leave with a satisfied belly and a warm heart.
The Sweet Spot
If you have a sweet tooth like me, you’ll be delighted by The Sweet Spot. This delightful bakery specializes in all things sweet potato. From heavenly sweet potato pies to decadent sweet potato brownies, every bite is a tantalizing explosion of flavor.
The Rustic Farm Market
For those who prefer a more rustic experience, The Rustic Farm Market is a must-visit. Their farmstall offers an array of fresh produce, including sweet potatoes sourced directly from local farmers. Stock up on some wholesome goodness and take a piece of Napier home with you.
So, when you visit Napier during the Patat Festival, make sure you sample these fantastic eateries. Each one is a hidden gem waiting to be discovered. Trust me, your taste buds will thank you!
So, let me tell you about this awesome weekend I had in Napier. The people there are so friendly and upbeat, it’s contagious! They really love their town and it’s evident in the excitement surrounding the festival. We had a blast watching the parade, with all the floats, vintage cars, and tractors going down the main road.
But the fun didn’t stop there. We got to learn how to make croissants! I mean, who doesn’t love a good croissant? And the best part was, we got to buy some delicious goat’s milk cheese right from the source – we even got to meet the goats it comes from! How cool is that?
Oh, and let’s not forget about the beer. We stopped by the Napier Brewery and tried some of their amazing brews. They’ve got it down to an art over there. And guess what? We even got to meet Miss Napier herself! She’s a real beauty.
Now, I have to warn you, the food in Napier is out of this world. There are so many incredible places where you can find homemade, farm-fresh goodness. I couldn’t get enough!
So, if you’re ever looking for a weekend getaway filled with good food, friendly people, and plenty of fun, Napier is the place to be. Trust me, you won’t be disappointed.
Welcome to The Red Windmill Nursery and Farmstall!
I’m excited to share my experience at The Red Windmill, our first stop for the weekend. We chose this place because it’s located on a sweet potato farm just 3km’s outside of Napier. As soon as I arrived, I was captivated by the charm of the Cape Dutch homestead and its remarkable feature – a headless windmill. It’s a sight you won’t forget!
The Red Windmill is more than just a farmstall. It’s a treasure trove of delights. Inside, you’ll find an incredible variety of produce, including the biggest pumpkin I’ve ever seen. Their preserves are also worth trying. But that’s not all – there’s a nursery filled with beautiful indigenous plants, a candy shop that will tempt even the most skeptical “I don’t eat sweets” person, and a vintage clothing section with an intriguing collection of hats.
When hunger strikes, you’re in for a treat at Dave’s Country Kitchen. The menu is displayed on chalkboards, allowing you to decide if you want to come back for dinner later. And trust me, you’ll want to. Dave’s food is exceptional, and you won’t believe the reasonable prices. I had the pleasure of savoring a ginger-infused Sweet Potato Soup served in a charming teacup. It was so good that I’m planning to serve it at my next dinner party. Next, I indulged in a lamb Bunny Chow, served in a mini homemade crusty loaf. It was the perfect combination of size and flavor. The menu offers a range of other delicious options, like African Spring Rolls with vegetables and biltong, salmon fishcakes (highly recommended), prego rolls (sold out due to popular demand), toasted sandwiches, curries, country platters, and delightful desserts like cheesecakes, scones, and Malva pudding. You’ll be tempted to stay until closing time!
For those visiting with kids, The Red Windmill offers entertainment specifically for them. From treasure hunts to egg and spoon races, story records, and coloring books, there’s plenty to keep the little ones occupied while you enjoy your meal.
The nursery, vintage shop, and restaurant are open from Wednesday to Monday until 4pm. You can also visit the restaurant for dinner on Friday and Saturday evenings. So why not stop by for a delicious lunch, let the kids enjoy a fun treasure hunt, pick up an indigenous plant for your garden, grab some jars of jam, and maybe sneak a few sweets into your pocket for later. Discover Pascals Country Kitchen
When I visited Napier with a friend, she insisted that we start each day at Pascal’s. She used to live here and claimed that their cappuccino is the best in town. Well, judging by how crowded Pascals is every morning, she might be onto something. Besides perfect cappuccinos, they also serve amazing breakfasts, which my friend highly recommends. We tried their cheesecake for afternoon tea, and I have to say it might be the best cheesecake I’ve ever tasted. The presentation alone is a work of art, with all those beautiful berries. It’s decadently delicious, but almost too pretty to eat. As if that weren’t enough, we couldn’t resist their famous Sunday Roast. We went for the two-course option and had sweet potato soup as the starter. It was perfect, especially since it was the last day of the potato festival weekend. The main course was succulent roast pork with rice, potatoes, and veggies. It was the perfect ending to a weekend of indulgence. Needless to say, we left with our bellies happily full.
I have to tell you about this amazing place called Pascals in Napier. It’s right on the main street, and you seriously can’t miss it. Just look for the bright yellow and red sign, and the rainbow umbrella. It’s impossible to overlook!
As soon as you walk up to the building, you’ll see a huge wall painting of a smug-looking cat. It’s quite amusing, really. But that’s not all – when you step inside, you’ll meet a real-life smug cat named Pascal. It’s quite the coincidence, don’t you think?
The owners, Mark and Stephen, are absolutely delightful. They’re such warm and friendly hosts that by the time you leave Napier, you’ll probably consider them close friends. They’re always happy to chat and make you feel at home.
If you want to get in touch with them, you have a few options. You can give them a call at 028-423-3146, or send them an email at [email protected] Alternatively, you can visit their website at www.pascals.co.za. Whatever method you choose, I can guarantee you won’t be disappointed.
Oh, and let me tell you – you definitely won’t leave Pascals feeling hungry. Their food is just out of this world. So, what are you waiting for? Head on over to Pascals and prepare yourself for an unforgettable dining experience. You won’t regret it!
Welcome to The Suntouched Inn!
I’ve had the pleasure of visiting The Suntouched Inn a few times, and let me tell you, it’s been a blast! From having a great time at the bar, learning how to play pool (after a few too many tequilas), to enjoying some of the best pizza I’ve ever tasted, this place is a hidden gem.
Now, I might be biased because I happen to know the owners (lucky me!), but the truth is, their pizza is truly amazing. It’s so good, in fact, that the whole village knows about it! But hey, don’t just take my word for it – go ahead and try one yourself. And if you happen to disagree, I’d love to know!
When you step into The Suntouched Inn, you’ll immediately feel at home. The bar is a local favorite, loved by both the locals and the passersby. You can kick back, relax, and enjoy a pint of the famous Napier Bier. And if you’re in the mood for some friendly competition, they have a pool table waiting for you.
But that’s not all – there’s also a restaurant where you can grab a bite to eat. And let me tell you, the food is absolutely delicious. Whether you’re in the mood for a hearty meal or a light snack, you’ll find something to satisfy your cravings.
And here’s the best part – if you find yourself a little too relaxed after all the drinks and the good food, you don’t have to worry. The Suntouched Inn offers stylish accommodation, so you can stay the night without any hassle.
The Suntouched Inn is more than just a place to eat and drink – it’s a hub of fun, laughter, and good times. So, why not pay a visit and experience it for yourself?
If you need to get in touch with them, you can give them a call at 028 423 3131, send an email to [email protected], or visit their website at www.suntouchedinn.co.za. And hey, if you happen to stop by the inn, you might just see me enjoying a slice of pizza and sipping on Napier Bier at the bar.
Welcome to Napier Farmstall and Restaurant!
If you’re a fan of charming farmstalls with unique decorations and the heavenly aroma of freshly baked bread, then you have to visit us at Napier Farmstall. And if you have a weakness for pastries, you absolutely must make a stop here. Our croissants are absolutely divine, and if you’re lucky, you might even get to meet the delightful pastry chef at the Bonjour Patisserie located behind our farmstall.
Let me tell you, this pastry chef – Daniel Bourget – is a true legend in Napier. Don’t be surprised if he proudly tells you that he’s been featured in many magazines. Trust me, he’s just that talented! In fact, we were fortunate enough to attend one of his fantastic pastry-making demonstrations last weekend. We got to sample an array of his incredible creations, and I must confess, we might have indulged a bit too much!
But here’s the best part – you don’t have to come all the way to Napier to taste the wonders of Bonjour Patisserie. You can also find their delectable treats at the Biscuit Mill market in Cape Town every Saturday. Trust me, it’s an experience you don’t want to miss, and it’s on my to-do list as well.
So, my friend recommended that I try their chicken pies, and I must say, they did not disappoint. If you’re a pie lover like me, you’ll definitely want to try these. They’re everything you could want in a pie – packed with flavorful chicken and wrapped in a delicate, flaky crust. I’m seriously craving one right now!
But it’s not just pies they offer. They also have a breakfast and lunch menu that is worth checking out. One dish that caught my attention was their “black pan breakfast,” which I’ve heard is absolutely amazing. I’m definitely making a mental note to come back and try it. Plus, where else can you enjoy a delicious meal while being treated to live violin music?
Next time you find yourself in Napier, whether you’re a local, a tourist, or just passing through, make sure to stop by this iconic Overberg landmark. They’re open every day, so you have no excuse. Give them a call at 028-423-3440, and be sure to try a chicken pie or a croissant. And don’t forget to say “Bonjour” to Monsier Bourget from me!
