Moeletsi & Tebo Matsau
How We Met…
We met at a friend’s lobola ceremony (hides) in June 2016. Well, actually what happened is he met me there, greeted me but I didn’t notice him shame.. lol!…fast forward to 3 months to August, we met again at my friend’s birthday dinner at a restaurant in east of Joburg.
We barely spoke to one another, he was so shy, he didn’t even get my numbers. Four days later 30th August (my birthday), he called me to wish me a happy birthday and asked me out on a date.
We went out on a few dates and officially started being an item in October 2016. And the rest like they say is history.
Hahaha!! Well, Boo actually proposed casually during a conversation very early on 1st of Jan (on New Years) this year in Port St. John’s whilst we were on holiday.
He said “in March we coming to lobola, I spoke to my parents/ elders”… and that was it lol! He reminded me that he told me when we started dating that he was gonna marry me and he wants to marry me.
Planning The Wedding…
Well, we had the lobola in March as my boo promised and literally decided on our date in April.
Planning started in May with the help of our family and our friends and my boo has the support of his friends as well. My parents were hands on, finding the venue, talking to service providers.
All in all, we did it ourselves. I knew it wouldn’t be hard for me to get my dress done the way I wanted it. I have a good relationship with StylesbyTumi so I definitely trusted her to do the things❤️. She’s never disappointed me and I trusted her. No regrets.
What Was Your Favourite Aspect Of The Day?
The umembeso ceremony definitely my fave, very symbolic of two families coming together in the name of love (Zulu & Sotho), the colours of the traditional attires worn on the day. I also loved the part when he put a ring on it, on one bended knee – I was blushing because he’s a shy guy but he did that for me which was amazing! I enjoyed the day, it was an amazing experience.
What Would You Change in Hindsight?
I would definitely have requested rsvp (hides)! We didn’t expect such an amazing turnout, people showed us so much love I wish our overflow was enough for everyone there.
What Advice Would You Give to Future Brides?
Planning, planning, planning! I cannot emphasise that enough. To avoid disappointments on your special day plan everything and make proper arrangements with your service providers. Lastly enjoy your day, be in the moment, be present. Let go and let God??
