Malcolm Kluk and Christiaan Gabriël Du Toit

Hey there! I’m Malcolm Kluk, and I’m Christiaan Gabriël Du Toit, and together we form the dynamic duo known as KLÜK CGDT. We’re fashion designers who have won awards for our incredible creations. I’m 45 years old, and my partner is 33. Today, we’re here to talk about our love for Cape Town, our brand-new shop on Bree Street, and a few of our favorite things. So, let’s get started!

One of the things we absolutely love about living in Cape Town is the tranquility and vast open spaces. There’s something magical about the air here – it’s so gentle and calming. It’s like a breath of fresh air you can feel in your soul.

Now, when we have visitors from out of town, we like to show them the true essence of Africa. That’s why we always take them to Babylonstoren, a one-of-a-kind destination that captures the spirit of this beautiful continent. We want to give them an experience that they won’t find anywhere else. And of course, we can’t resist taking a trip to the winelands. The combination of delicious food and breathtaking scenery is simply unbeatable.

If you’re wondering where we like to eat when we’re not at our shop or designing fabulous clothes, well, we recently had an incredible meal at The Test Kitchen. We were a bit late to the party, but boy, was the food worth the wait! It was absolutely outstanding. However, as much as we love fine dining, there’s nothing quite like a good old-fashioned braai at home with our beloved friends. It’s the epitome of comfort and the best way to unwind.

We really enjoy eating at Mano’s, NV-80, Mykonos Taverna, Haiku, and Giovanni’s, but our absolute favorites are the chicken pie and malva pudding cooked by our friends, Chris and Christan.

The Design Indaba Expo is an event in Cape Town that we never miss. It showcases the best of local creativity, and it’s always a blast.

When it comes to news, Twitter is our go-to platform. It’s faster than mainstream media, so we follow accounts like @EWN, @News24, @NYtimes, and @ParliamentofRSA. And for some laughs, we can always count on @KarenWalkerBot from “Will & Grace” to keep us entertained.

As for the Oscar Pistorius trial, we choose not to pay attention to it. It’s a terribly sad story, and we don’t feel the need to be entertained by such sadness.

We’re big fans of TV shows and they play a huge role in our leisure time. Our all-time favorite is Will & Grace. Right now, we’re really into RuPaul’s Dragrace. Other shows we enjoy include 24, Survivor, Modern Family, American Horror Story, and Downton Abbey, just to name a few.

When it comes to weekend getaways, there’s no place like home. We do a lot of traveling between Joburg and Cape Town, so we appreciate the hustle and bustle of Jozi contrasted with the tranquility of Cape Town.

There are some things in Cape Town that we still want to experience. Table Mountain is definitely at the top of our list. We’ve never had the chance to go up, but we’ve heard it’s absolutely breathtaking. We’re also really interested in doing the Moonlight Mass bike ride through Cape Town. Unfortunately, due to various reasons, we haven’t been able to do it yet, but we’re determined to make it happen soon!

I have found the best coffee spot in our area: Bootleggers in Regent Road, Sea Point.

Do you know what our favourite walk in the city is? It’s the Sea Point Promenade. Honestly, it’s unbeatable. We used to think that was the only great walk, but ever since we moved our shop to the city, we’ve discovered that there is so much happening in Bree Street alone. It’s an absolute gem.

Are you wondering about our drink of choice for a special occasion? Well, it’s cola tonic and lemonade. Trust me, it’s the perfect combination of refreshing and indulgent. You can’t go wrong with it.

Let me tell you about the best book I’ve recently read: The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern. Wow, what a book! The fantasy elements are just incredible, and I love how the author creates these unique and magical worlds that you never want to leave. It’s truly inspiring, and it reminds me of what Christiaan and I strive to do every day in our own work.

I recently came across an amazing book called Moffie by André Carl van der Merwe. Let me tell you, it completely opened my eyes to what happened in South Africa before our time. Living in this country today is truly a privilege, considering how far we’ve come.

We also watched a fantastic movie called Saving Mr Banks. It was such a delightful experience because, as the saying goes, “a spoonful of sugar” really does make everything better!

Now, let me fill you in on what I’ve been up to lately. I’ve been absolutely consumed with putting the final touches on our collection for Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Cape Town. The big launch happened at our brand-new flagship boutique on Bree Street, just a couple of weeks ago, on July 26, 2014.

On Sundays, I like to take it easy and do absolutely nothing. It’s a day when I don’t worry about money or fashion. Instead, I find joy in the simplicity of life. It’s funny how sometimes the little things can bring the most happiness. After all, what better way to end the day than indulging in some delicious chocolate?

Sometimes, when I wake up in the middle of the night, I can’t resist the temptation to open Instagram. It’s like a little window into the world, filled with endless photos and stories. It’s a reminder that life is always moving, even in the stillness of the night.

But amidst all the fun and excitement, I know that one day I’ll have to grow up. Life can’t always be about leisure and indulgence. There will come a time when I have to face the responsibilities of adulthood. But for now, I’ll cherish these carefree moments and embrace the joy they bring.

By the way, have you heard the news? KLÜK CGDT has just opened a brand-new store at 33 Bree Street on 26 July. It’s an exciting development for fashion lovers and I can’t wait to check it out. The store promises to be a hub of style and creativity, a place where dreams can come to life.

So, whether it’s a lazy Sunday or a grand opening, life is full of little delights that bring us joy. It’s up to us to embrace them and make the most of every moment. After all, we’re only young once, so let’s savor the sweetness of life while we can.
