Hey there! I want to tell you about this awesome restaurant called Elgr, which is located right in the heart of Kloof Street. It’s not your average dining spot – it’s something truly special.

Elgr is the brainchild of an incredible chef named Jesper Nilsson. He’s only 27 years old, but he’s already making waves in the culinary world. Jesper spent lockdown coming up with all sorts of creative ideas for this restaurant, and let me tell you, it’s like nothing you’ve ever seen before.

When you step into Elgr, you’ll immediately notice its Scandinavian style. It’s all about minimalism and sleek design, creating an effortlessly cool atmosphere. The whole place has this moody vibe that’s just so unique.

I gotta tell you about this amazing place called ëlgr. It’s got this super chill Scandinavian vibe going on, you know? The design is so minimal and sleek, with these cool colors like charcoal and black, and then these little pops of green that just make it all come alive. Seriously, it’s like something out of a magazine.

But here’s the really cool part. ëlgr isn’t just any old restaurant. Nope, it’s got all these different dining areas that are each their own little world. You walk in and there’s this bright and sunny space right off the street. It’s got these comfy leather seats and these funky displays that catch your eye. It’s like a little oasis in the city.

But wait, there’s more. As you go deeper into the restaurant, things start to get a bit moodier. Imagine these beautifully set tables with this slate black tableware. It’s like you’ve stepped into a different world. And then, just when you think you’ve seen it all, you emerge into this amazing courtyard. It’s filled with plants and natural light, and there’s even a bar and a corner sofa. Oh, and did I mention there’s a pizza oven? I mean, come on, does it get any better than that?

This place is the perfect combination of urban and social. It’s like the kind of place where you can just hang out and have a good time. And the best part? It’s seriously easy on the eyes. I can’t get enough of it.

With its unique menu of handcrafted cocktails and rosé on tap, it’s sure to become your go-to spot this summer.

The Exciting Street-Food Adventure at Ëlgr

Every other Saturday, chef Jesper and the talented Ëlgr team will present an authentic street-food experience with dishes inspired by different countries. To start things off, we’re taking you to Mexico on Saturday, February 13, 2021, at noon. “We’ve got an incredible day planned for you in our vibrant courtyard, complete with amazing food, drinks, music, and good vibes that’ll keep you here from early afternoon till late at night!” Jesper promises.

Here’s what you can find on the Mexican menu:

  • Two soft corn tacos, lovingly handcrafted, featuring slow-cooked black bean mole, fire-grilled hangar steak, and a side of homemade salsa (R90)
  • Hey, how about trying a frozen margarita for R90?
  • We also have a wine-pairing option with two wines for R90.
  • If you’re in the mood for something sweet, you can’t go wrong with our churros for R45.

Putting Family First

When it comes to building a warm and inviting atmosphere, Jesper and his team go above and beyond. They understand the importance of making everyone feel welcome, not just the customers. That’s why they treat each other like family.

Jesper and his crew aren’t just coworkers – they’re a tight-knit unit. They all have stable jobs and earn a salary, so they never have to worry about relying solely on tips. And speaking of tips, they share them among the entire team. Because at this restaurant, success is a team effort.

But it doesn’t stop there. Jesper values each team member’s well-being and happiness. He makes sure they have a family-style lunch every day, where they can come together and enjoy each other’s company. And Jesper knows the importance of rest, so he gives his staff two consecutive days off. It’s his way of saying, “You matter, and your needs are important.”

Jesper’s philosophy extends beyond just the customers. He believes that if his staff feels like family, they’ll provide a better, more holistic hospitality experience. And that’s something truly special.

Meet the Chef

Let me introduce you to Jesper, our amazing chef. Jesper was born in Sweden and moved to South Africa as a teenager with his family. He has expertly combined the simple and sophisticated approach of Swedish cuisine with a deep appreciation for the fresh and bountiful local produce in Cape Town. The result is a menu that will tantalize your taste buds and leave you wanting more.

When it comes to my training, I’ve had the opportunity to learn from some incredible chefs. I’ve worked alongside Richard Carstens, Darren Badenhorst, and Arno Janse, absorbing their expertise and techniques. Recently, I even had the chance to work at the renowned Bastard restaurant in Malmö, Sweden. These experiences have had a profound impact on my culinary style.

I’ve crafted a menu that reflects my unique perspective, offering shared-plate dining. This format allows you to try a variety of dishes and truly savor the flavors. Each plate is carefully thought out and designed to enhance your dining experience.
