Kennedy & Evelyn Mpezeni
Our love story is that which is a testimony of Grace and Restoration. It was nothing conventional and not your typical boy meets girl.
I had known my husband for a while and eventually after working on a book project together, I realised how great a man he was and unbeknownst to me he had also fallen head over heels in love with me.
He eventually came to a point where he told me that he is in love and would like me to be his wife. My husband was very straightforward with his intentions with me. This is something I had always prayed for. He never called me a “Girlfriend”. He said, “God made you a wife before I even proposed to you. The word of God says, ‘He who finds a wife’ not he who finds a Girlfriend.”
I began to see God answer my prayers through my husband. I am such a perfectionist and planned my entire wedding. I wasn’t going to put the most important day of my life in anybody’s hands – typical perfectionist tendencies!
It was stressful but I tried to structure everything according to timelines and make all payments in time. I also sought good and reliable service providers which was really helpful and I thank them so very much for their professionalism and dedication.
I, however, knew that I would require a co-ordinator on the day and my wedding day co-ordinator was absolutely amazing. She came with a team of people to assist. If she wasn’t there I don’t know how I could have managed.
I am not a follower of trends so finding the perfect dresses for me was a very complicated but fun process. I was looking for dresses that are elegant, timeless, a good balance between traditional and the modern bride while at the same time staying true to my personal style and personality. Both my ceremony and reception dresses were a true reflection of that.
My accessories and jewelry where very elegant and simple. I love pearls my mum gifted me a beautiful set of freshwater pearls that I absolutely love and treasure. I didn’t want to overwhelm my dresses, I added a personalised bracelet engraved with the words “peace” to my jewelry that I bought during my bridecation in the USA in May 2019, this is something that was personal to me and symbolic of God’s peace to reign in our marriage.
My rings were picked by my husband and I picked his. For our wedding he added an eternity and wedding band to my engagement ring. He already knew I wanted white gold and diamonds and the words love are engraved on them.
Our honeymoon was in Mauritius. We knew we wanted to go there from the time we decided to get married. The white sands, coconut trees and blue lagoons. It is the perfect symbol of luxury, relaxation and charm. Every experience , every sunset, every moment we were there was magical and an absolute blessing. We are so grateful to start our marriage with such great memories.
To say we had the wedding of our dreams is an understatement. It was a divine experience. We give all glory to God.
What Was Your Favourite Aspect Of The Day?
Everything but if I had to pick two: Our vows and Our feet washing ceremony. We were very intentional about what our wedding day should symbolise.
What Advice Would You Give To Future Brides?
Pray for everything literally including your suppliers.
Remember to Enjoy Your Day! It goes by so fast.
In wedding world, something will go wrong – don’t be a bridezilla. Breathe and let the day be what it will be.
How Has Married Life Been?
Amazing! The Bible says two is better than one for a reason.
Having someone to do life with, who is dedicated to you is an absolute blessing. Putting God at the centre will sustain your marriage even in the difficult times. He is watching over his word to perform it.
