“I’m thrilled to announce that we’re eagerly preparing to host the Investec Cape Town Art Fair in 2022, where we’ll have the pleasure of welcoming both familiar faces and new acquaintances. This upcoming event holds immense importance as it provides us with an incredible opportunity to connect, reconnect, and interact with one another. After all the challenges faced in the past year, the return of the physical fair is a much-needed reprieve and a chance for the global art community to find solace, restoration, and inspiration,” Laura Vincenti, the Director of the Investec Cape Town Art Fair, expresses her excitement.
However, this year’s fair is not just about continuing with tradition. We have some exciting new additions to enhance the overall experience.
One of these additions is the introduction of a section called ‘ALT,’ which offers a fresh perspective on the theme of the fair. We’ve invited alternative galleries to showcase how the pandemic has influenced artists’ engagement with art in both the real and virtual worlds. It’s an opportunity to explore the evolving landscape of art and its intersection with technology and virtual platforms.
In addition to the ALT section, we have an incredible lineup of events that art enthusiasts have eagerly awaited:
In the art world, there are various ways to showcase and explore the work of artists. One such way is through solo presentations. Solo presentations focus on the artistic practices of individual artists, both local and international. It offers a chance to delve into how these artists respond to periods of isolation and the impact that collaboration and exchange have on their art.
At the Joburg Art Fair, you can expect to see a diverse range of solo presentations. These presentations are divided into different sections, each offering its own unique perspective. For example, Tomorrows/Today is a section curated by Nkule Mabaso and Luigi Fassi, while Past Modern is curated by João Ferreira.
In addition to solo presentations, the Joburg Art Fair also features other sections such as Cultural Platforms, Magazines and Books, and Editions. Each section brings its own contribution to the art fair, showcasing different aspects of the art world.
If you’re interested in exploring the work of individual artists and how they navigate periods of isolation, the SOLO section is worth exploring. The SOLO section of the art fair provides a platform for artists to showcase their work in a curated solo presentation. It’s a chance to immerse yourself in the unique artistic practices of these talented individuals.
So, whether you’re an art enthusiast or simply curious about the art world, the Joburg Art Fair offers a rich and diverse experience. From solo presentations to cultural platforms and beyond, there is something for everyone. Come and be inspired by the creativity and talent on display.
