Interview with Seth Rotherham The MzansiBride

Cape Town: My Beloved Hometown

Hey there! I’m Seth Rotherham, the guy behind 2oceansvibe. To know me is to know that I’m not just a regular Cape Town resident – I live and breathe this city. And guess what? I’ve even got a pizza and cocktail named after me! But that’s not all; I’m also about to become a super proud dad!

You see, I’ve spent my entire existence in this gem of a place called Cape Town. I grew up right at Cavendish Square, and the memories I made there are just too precious to let go. They’re ingrained in me, and they remind me every day of the magic this city holds.

What makes Cape Town truly remarkable is the incredible lifestyle it offers. Trust me when I say it’s unlike anything else! The way this city effortlessly blends together so many different experiences is mind-blowing. You can go from hiking on the iconic Table Mountain to chilling at the legendary Café Caprice or soaking up the sun at the stunning Camps Bay beach – all in a jiffy. And how about this? In just one hour, you can find yourself sipping exquisite wine at the picturesque Haute Cabrière in Franschhoek. It’s astonishing how these vastly contrasting scenarios can captivate you with their unique beauty, while being so close to one another.

When people from outside of town visit, our main activities tend to revolve around eating and drinking. We start off with a delicious breakfast buffet at the Oasis Bistro in the Mount Nelson Hotel – there’s nothing quite like a hotel breakfast buffet. And, at some point, we make sure to try out the following places:

  • We head to Café Caprice in Camps Bay for a refreshing 2oceansvibe cocktail
  • We visit Quaglino’s in Mouille Point for a unique bar dining experience (and to try the ‘Smokey Seth’ cocktail featuring Jack Daniel’s)
  • We stop by La Perla in Sea Point – a well-established spot with beautiful views of the promenade
  • We make a trip to Haute Cabrière in Franschhoek – a fantastic place for amazing food and stunning views, paired with plenty of Pierre Jourdan bubbly! Don’t miss the mind-blowing tomato soup starter.

On the last night, I love to treat myself to a delicious pizza from Butler’s – the best in Cape Town. My go-to is The Rotherham, which is piled high with crispy bacon, savory salami, and tangy feta. The unique thing about this pizza is that it has half the amount of cheese and a thin crust, making it a lighter option.

Recently, I had the pleasure of trying The Dreamy Burger at Café Caprice, and it was absolutely incredible. They truly named it right because it was a dream. I paired it with a refreshing cold Grolsch beer, creating the perfect meal.

Every year, I make it a point to attend the L’ormarins Queen’s Plate horse race in Cape Town. This event is unlike any other. It’s sophisticated and elegant, creating a more refined atmosphere. Trust me, they know how to do it right.

When I need a weekend escape, my go-to destination is Grootbos Nature Reserve, just outside of Hermanus. This place is a true haven of beauty, peace, and serenity. The food is exquisite, and the service is top-notch. It’s the perfect place to recharge and reconnect with nature. Plus, it’s so secluded that no one will be able to find you until you’re ready to return.

Finishing off my private pilot’s license has opened up a world of possibilities for me. With a map in hand, I can now explore countless nature reserves, farms, and beautiful seaside towns. The sense of freedom is exhilarating as I plan my next adventure.

The hunt for the best coffee in my area is finally over. Vida e Caffè has stolen my heart with their rich and delicious cappuccinos. The moment I take a sip, I’m transported to a world of pure coffee bliss. It’s a simple pleasure that brings me so much joy.

If you’re looking for the perfect walk to clear your mind and admire stunning views, look no further than the pipe track along Table Mountain. Living at the top of Camps Bay has its perks, and one of them is having this incredible trail right on our doorstep. My wife and I love taking our beloved chocolate Labrador, Lacoste, for walks on this trail. It’s a daily ritual that brings us closer to nature and each other.

While many people swear by the Banting diet, it’s just not my cup of tea. I prefer to stay active and challenge myself with frequent runs from Camps Bay to Bantry Bay. It’s a great way to stay fit and enjoy the natural beauty of my surroundings.

Let’s forget about red wine for a moment and focus on something truly marvelous – Haute Cabrières pinot noir. This exceptional wine is best enjoyed with a bucket of ice by your side. You won’t believe the burst of happiness that awaits you with every sip. It’s a simple luxury that will leave you craving for more.

I’m juggling multiple projects right now: aside from my work at 2oceansvibe News and Radio, I’m also involved in the launch of Get Jet, which offers affordable private-jet travel in South Africa. On top of that, I’m dedicating my time to OurHood, a rapidly growing social network for neighborhoods. Additionally, I co-host the Tech Report on ENCA every Thursday night. Oh, and I’m currently in the process of obtaining my private pilot’s license. As if that isn’t enough, my partner and I are expecting our baby to arrive in the first week of February!

Sundays are reserved for two things: Butler’s pizza and Carte Blanche.

Right after this, my plan is to head home and go for a swim.

Waking up in the middle of the night is never fun. Most of the time, I have to get up to use the bathroom and then hope that I can fall back asleep. Otherwise, it’s going to be a long and exhausting day.

There’s something I’ve always believed in: one day, the entire world will come together and live as one.

One day, I truly believe, we will all find harmony and unity.
