Headed to Wellington Alpaca my bags

In 1698, the town of Wellington emerged in the Western Cape, just a short drive away from Cape Town. When you drive through it, the scenery is so stunning that it feels like you’re trapped inside a painting. And when you actually spend time exploring Wellington, you’ll find that it offers even more delights. The weather here is typically a bit warmer than in Cape Town, making it the perfect destination for a winter’s day. Let me share with you some of my favorite places to check out.

Villamar on the Oudebrug Farm

Villamar is a restaurant that can be found within a magnificent olive tree grove. It’s like a little island surrounded by the trees. When you visit, you won’t be disappointed by the serving sizes – they are quite generous. And even better, the prices won’t break your budget. The Marra family who started the place have a fascinating history that combines Italian and South African influences. That’s probably why their cuisine is so mouthwatering.

When I wake up in the morning, I look forward to a delightful cup of freshly roasted coffee. Villamar offers the best coffee in town, and it’s the perfect way to start my day. They also have a wonderful selection of Italian products, like cold-pressed extra virgin olive oil and balsamic vinegar. These high-quality ingredients add a touch of sophistication to my meals.

But that’s not all. Villamar is also known for its delectable treats. They have an amazing gelato selection, with flavors that will transport you to Italy with every bite. And their breads, cakes, and pizza are simply divine. Each bite is a burst of flavor, and you can taste the love and dedication that goes into making them.

One of the things that sets Villamar apart is their commitment to sustainability. They believe in the concept of “farm to plate,” ensuring that their ingredients are sourced responsibly and sustainably. This not only supports local farmers and producers, but it also means that I can enjoy my food knowing that it’s good for me and the environment.

Out of all the amazing things Villamar has to offer, the bakery is my absolute favorite. The aroma of freshly baked goods fills the air, and it’s impossible to resist their freshly baked bread and pastries. They are made with care and precision, and each bite is like a taste of heaven.

Villamar is a place that truly understands the importance of good food. They go above and beyond to provide their customers with the finest ingredients and flavors. So, if you’re looking for a place that will elevate your dining experience and leave you wanting more, look no further than Villamar. Trust me, it’s worth every bite.

Quenti Alpaca

A visit to the Quenti Alpaca and Mill is a must when you’re in the area. When you step onto the premises, the sound of machinery guides you into a bustling warehouse where soft fleece is transformed into textile fiber. Did you know that alpaca fiber is the toughest of all animal fibers? It’s quite extraordinary!

The original farmstead dates back to 1715. Today, it’s home to around 250 Cape alpacas, which were originally brought from Chile and settled on the farm between 2009 and 2011. These fascinating creatures add so much charm to our countryside.

Hey there! Check out these adorable alpacas basking in the lovely Wellington sun. Aren’t they just the cutest?

Let me tell you why alpacas are such fascinating creatures. First off, did you know they’re part of the camelid family, which also includes llamas, camels, and vicuñas? Talk about great company to be in! Now, let’s dive into the wonderful world of alpacas.

Alpacas are native to the Andes mountains in South America and have been around for thousands of years. They’re highly valued for their luxurious fleece, which is soft, warm, and hypoallergenic. If you’re looking for a cuddly buddy, consider an alpaca!

But alpacas are more than just cute and fluffy. They are incredibly adaptable animals that can thrive in various climates. From the freezing cold of the Andes to the scorching heat of Wellington, they can handle it all. Just imagine having a pet that can keep you warm during winter and still be cool in the summer!

Another fantastic fact about alpacas is that they’re very environmentally friendly. They have padded feet that don’t damage the ground, making them gentle on the environment. Plus, their poop makes excellent fertilizer to help plants grow. It’s a win-win situation!

Now, let’s talk about their personalities. Alpacas are social creatures, and they love to hang out with their herd. They’re known for being gentle and peaceful, though they can get a little feisty during playtime. It’s always entertaining to watch them chase each other around!

So, if you’re thinking about getting an alpaca, there are a few things to consider. They need companionship, so it’s best to have at least two. And don’t worry about shearing them yourself – there are professional shearers who take care of that and keep them looking their best.

Oh, and did I mention their cute faces? Those big, expressive eyes and fluffy heads will melt your heart every time. Just imagine coming home to those adorable faces waiting to greet you.

In conclusion, alpacas are incredible creatures that bring joy, warmth, and a dash of adorable to our lives. They’re great companions, environmentally friendly, and make us smile with their playful personalities. So, why not consider adding an alpaca to your family? Trust me; you won’t regret it!

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to find a herd of alpacas to join. After writing about them, I can’t resist their charm! Wish me luck, and remember, alpacas are always a good choice.

First of all, it’s durable, which means it can withstand a lot of wear and tear. Plus, it’s elastic, so it can stretch and move with you, making it super comfortable to wear.

Another amazing thing about alpaca wool is that it’s flame resistant. That means it won’t catch on fire easily, which is pretty impressive. When it comes to alpaca fiber, there are two distinct types: huacaya and suri. Huacaya fiber showcases delightful crimpy waves and grows in charming bundles, while Suri fiber boasts a sleek and straight appearance, growing in elegant locks. Each type has its unique charm and appeal!

Now, let’s talk about The Stone Kitchen on Dunstone. It’s not just your average bistro; it’s a haven for children and pets alike. Whether you’re a family of two or twelve, everyone is welcome here!

Step into the backyard, and you’ll be greeted with stunning views of majestic mountains. It’s a sight to behold, indeed. Meanwhile, your little ones can keep themselves entertained with a variety of exciting activities. Fun and adventure await!

Curious about the story behind The Stone Kitchen? Allow me to share. Abbi and Lee Wallis embarked on a journey from the United Kingdom to South Africa in February 2002. Lee, who once served as a doctor in the British Royal Navy, found himself working at the Red Cross Children’s Hospital in Cape Town. And that’s when the magic happened – they fell head over heels for South Africa.

Ever wondered how the eatery got its remarkable name? Well, it’s quite a romantic tale. The inspiration comes from the farm where Abbi and Lee had their unforgettable engagement in the UK. Quite the charming connection!

I am passionate about my pets. I have a special bond with each and every one of them. Let me introduce you to my furry friends: Merlot and Rosé, my two friendly dogs. You’ll fall in love with their playful personalities. Then there are my horses Ollie, George, and Whisquita. They are truly magnificent creatures. But it doesn’t stop there. I have two mischievous goats named Aston and Martin. They always find a way to keep me on my toes. And last but not least, I have two pigs named Petal and Hello Kitty. They are full of surprises and always put a smile on my face.

I love looking at the menu because there are so many delicious options to choose from. One of my favorites is the falafel wrap. It comes with a mouthwatering combination of fresh salads, flavorful Sriracha tahini, and crispy chips. When you take a bite, you can taste the perfect blend of textures and flavors. The falafel is crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, while the salads add a refreshing crunch. The Sriracha tahini gives it a spicy kick that is just right. And of course, who can resist the crispy chips? It’s the perfect meal for any time of the day. Whether you’re looking for a quick lunch or a satisfying dinner, the falafel wrap is always a great choice. So why not give it a try? Trust me, once you taste it, you’ll be hooked!

Welcome to Welbedacht Wines

Welcome to Welbedacht Wines, owned by the incredible Schalk Burger Senior, a true legend in the world of rugby. But did you know that Schalk is actually a cricket enthusiast at heart? That’s right, he chose rugby to make his father happy, but his real passion lies in cricket. In fact, he loves the sport so much that he built and maintains his very own cricket pitch right here on the estate – the Welbedacht Cricket Oval.

When you visit Welbedacht Wines, you might just bump into Schalk himself. You’ll find him strolling through the vineyards, chatting with guests in the tasting room, or playing with his dogs. And don’t forget to say hello to his wife, Myra, who runs the beautiful Bradgate Manor House guesthouse.

Welbedacht Wines is a true family affair. Schalk and Myra’s daughter, Rene, proudly represents the estate as a brand ambassador in Johannesburg. Meanwhile, their son, Tiaan, has followed in his father’s footsteps and is now the head of viniculture and viticulture after completing his studies in Agriculture. He started as an assistant winemaker and has worked his way up. Quite an achievement!
