Grub & Vine: A Bistro, Wine Bar + Jazz Club on Bree Street
Hey there, foodies! Welcome to Grub & Vine, where Matt Manning knows how to take your taste buds on an exciting adventure.
Situated right in the heart of bustling Bree Street, this three-story haven of flavors, beverages, and culture is a spot you can’t miss on your foodie journey through Cape Town. Overlooking Heritage Square, this place is a feast for both your eyes and your stomach. It’s like venturing into a rainbow!
In 2018, Grub & Vine Bistro made its debut on the first floor of this fabulous building. But Matt didn’t stop there – he just kept adding more deliciousness to the mix. Now, Grub & Vine occupies the whole building, with Culture Wine Bar greeting you as you climb the stairs, The Chef’s Studio sitting pretty on top, and The Blue Room waiting for you at street level.
But the beating heart of it all is Grub & Vine, staying true to Matt’s original vision of bringing you incredible food alongside magnificent wines. This is the place to be for laid-back lunches, enchanting dinners, and the secret pleasure of Saturday brunch (if you’re in the loop, that is).
More Than Just Grub
Matt says his menu is all about simple, tasty food. But that’s an understatement. His menu is actually refined and absolutely delicious. The food is prepared and presented beautifully, and the service is friendly and knowledgeable. It’s an upscale dining experience without all the fancy stuff.
Grub & Vine has two different dining areas. There’s the elegant dining room where you can see the kitchen in action. And then there’s the Green Room, which has a garden-inspired theme. It’s filled with rattan chairs, bird prints, hanging lights, and potted plants. There are even a couple of tables outside in a cozy courtyard.
Oh, and they also have something called the Saturday Brunch Club.
So, here’s the thing: Grub & Vine’s Saturday Brunch Club is pretty special. I mean, it’s one of those secret spots in Cape Town that you only discover through word of mouth. And let me tell you, once you’re in on the secret, you’re in for a treat.
The brunch menu at Matt’s place is unlike anything you’ve ever seen. It’s this perfect blend of breakfast and lunch, packed with delicious dishes that will make your taste buds do a happy dance. You’ve got your classic breakfast-inspired sharing plates, like the oh-so-good bacon mac-and-cheese croquettes. Trust me, they’re as indulgent and tasty as they sound.
But that’s not all. You’ve also got hearty lunch options that will fill you up and leave you feeling satisfied. One of my personal favorites is the pulled lamb with mushrooms and perfectly poached eggs. It’s a flavor explosion that will make your mouth water.
And just when you thought it couldn’t get any better, they hit you with some sweet treats. The red-velvet flapjacks with white-chocolate mousse are out of this world. They’re fluffy, they’re moist, they’re everything you could ever want in a dessert.
But wait, there’s more! The best thing about brunch is the drinks, am I right? At Grub & Vine, they pull out all the stops. You can enjoy bottomless bubbly, mimosas, and bloody Marys to really make it a special occasion. Because let’s be honest, brunch is all about celebrating life and indulging in a little bit of luxury.
