I’m sitting at a restaurant that’s right on the water’s edge. It’s pretty cool because they’ve added some new dishes to their menu that are inspired by the sea. How awesome is that?
The restaurant is called GINJA, and let me tell you, the view from here is absolutely breathtaking. You can see the Waterfront’s Pierhead and Table Mountain. It’s like something out of a postcard. And guess what? I’m sitting on the verandah, so I have the perfect spot to take it all in. The sea breeze is so gentle and relaxing. It’s the perfect way to spend an afternoon.
Oh, and get this! I just saw a seal swimming around in the water right in front of me. It was such a cool moment. I couldn’t help but snap a quick picture for the ‘gram.
Time for some delicious seafood
But forget about the amazing location for a minute – let’s talk about GINJA’s updated menu. Trust me, it’s absolutely mouthwatering. They’ve taken their seaside inspiration to a whole new level by adding some incredible seafood dishes to their already delicious lineup. And don’t worry, they still have all your favorites too. You can still enjoy their tempura-battered hake with citrus aioli, peas, and hand-cut fries – it’s a classic. Or you can indulge in their famous Prawn Special for two. Picture this: a kilogram of chili-and-garlic queen prawns, served with toasted ciabatta, hand-cut fries, a table salad, and a bottle of Iona Sauvignon Blanc – all for just R595. It’s a steal, really.
But that’s not all. GINJA has also added some scrumptious new main courses to their menu. If you’re in the mood for some comfort food with a twist, try their creamy fish curry with coconut rice. It’s the perfect blend of flavors that will transport you to a tropical paradise. Or if you’re a salmon lover, you can’t go wrong with their grilled sesame-glazed salmon – it’s melt-in-your-mouth delicious. And for those who like a little bit of spice, their calamari grilled in a garlic and chili sauce will hit the spot.
Now, let’s talk about the small plates. These may be small in size, but they’re big on flavor. From crispy calamari to tasty prawn skewers, GINJA’s small plates are perfect for sharing or for enjoying all to yourself. And with dishes like prawn poppers, seafood bruschetta, and smoked trout paté, there’s something for everyone.
So whether you’re a seafood lover or just looking to try something new, GINJA’s updated menu has got you covered. They’ve taken the best of the sea and created dishes that will satisfy even the most discerning palate. You won’t be disappointed. So why wait? Head over to GINJA and indulge in a seafood feast like no other. Trust me, your taste buds will thank you.
If you want to try one of our new meals but prefer a smaller portion, I recommend the seared tuna or the tear-and-share flatbread. They are both delicious choices. Another tasty option is the mussels in coconut cream, lemongrass, chili, and garlic, served with an aniseed bun.
If you’re looking for something even lighter, the beetroot and goat’s cheese croquettes salad is a great choice. We also have a lovely selection of salads available. All of these dishes are small enough to share and make a perfect meal with a drink during sundowners.
Speaking of drinks, we have plenty to choose from! At GINJA, we offer a wide selection of wines, inventive cocktails, healthy juices and smoothies, and a long list of local craft gins. We also have eight local craft beers on tap.
Vegetarian options
Hey there! I’ve got something exciting to share with you. We’ve noticed that more and more people are looking for delicious vegetarian options. So, we’ve come up with the perfect solution – a Meat-Free Meals section on our menu! But wait, there’s more! Our vegetarian dishes aren’t just limited to that section.
Have you ever tried a green pancake? Trust me, it’s amazing! Picture this: a delightful combination of spinach, egg, coriander, chili, feta, and avocado. It’s a dish that will leave you wanting more.
And if that’s not enough to tempt your taste buds, we’ve got an incredible lentil-and-artichoke bake with goat’s cheese. It’s packed with flavors like carrot, cumin, and a spinach and onion bajji. Now, let me tell you, the bajji is something special. It’s an Indian delicacy where vegetables are deep-fried in batter. Insider tip: forget about the knife and fork. Use your hands to savor every finger-licking bite!
Relaxing Ambiance
When you visit GINJA at the Victoria & Alfred Hotel, you’ll find a place that caters to both hotel guests and the general public. It’s a great spot to unwind after a long journey or enjoy a drink at the bar before your meal. The lounge area is designed with your relaxation in mind, featuring large, comfortable leather couches where you can sink in and let go of the day’s stress. The restaurant itself has a warm and inviting atmosphere, thanks to the beautiful bonsai trees, the soft lighting, and the elegant wooden paneling. No matter where you choose to sit, whether it’s by the window or at a traditional table, you’ll find a laid-back and comfortable setting to enjoy your time.
Delicious Treats
If you have a sweet tooth, you’re in luck! There are plenty of yummy desserts to choose from. I have two recommendations that you won’t want to miss. First, there’s the Cape-inspired Falooda yoghurt panna cotta with vanilla ice cream. It’s a delightful combination of flavors that will leave you wanting more. Next up is the chocolate fondant with peanuts, marshmallow ice cream, and strawberry jam. This dessert is a chocolate lover’s dream come true. Trust me, you won’t be disappointed.
But wait, there’s more! The crème brûlée is another must-try. It comes with berry gelato and chocolate ganache on biscotti. And to top it all off, it’s garnished with the most beautiful edible flowers. The presentation alone is enough to make your mouth water. Don’t miss out on this sweet treat.
Now, let’s talk about breakfast. If you’re an early riser, you’re in for a treat. Starting at 6:30 in the morning, you can head to the Native Coffee Bar on the city side of the restaurant. There, you can indulge in freshly baked pastries and sip on a cup of artisanal coffee. It’s the perfect way to start your day on a sweet note.
