First of all, we’re putting a rotation system in place for our non-essential staff at the Regional office in Knysna. This way, we can reduce the number of people in one place at a time, which is really important right now.

Our amazing park rangers will also be stepping up their game. They’ll be out there, keeping a close eye on everything. You’ll see them patrolling all over, making sure everyone follows the rules and keeping our beautiful nature and visitors protected.

Now, let’s talk about the spike in infections. It’s not good news, I’m afraid. We’re really worried about what’s happening in the Garden Routes. Infections are going up, and we’ve got to do something about it.

That’s why we’re taking some extra precautions. We’re introducing staff rotations and a quota system in the Garden Route National Park. This way, we can manage the number of visitors and prevent any further increase in infections.

Starting December 16, 2020, there will be a new system in place at the Wilderness Section and the Kruger National Park. This system, called a quota system, will restrict the number of people allowed in certain areas to ensure a better experience for everyone.

Some popular areas like Island Lake, Tarentaal, and the Half-collard Kingfisher Trail will have this quota system. It means that only a certain number of people will be allowed to enter these places at a time. This is to make sure that there isn’t overcrowding and that everyone can enjoy the facilities without feeling crowded.

Other areas that will have controlled access include those leading to Big trees like Krisjian se Nek, Dalene Matthee memorial, and popular picnic spots. When visiting these places, you will be served on a first-come, first-serve basis. This means that if you arrive early, you’ll have a better chance of getting in.

SANParks, the organization in charge of these parks, will keep the public informed about the current quota status. They will regularly update their social media pages to let people know when an area has reached its quota and can’t allow any more visitors. This way, you can plan your visit accordingly and avoid disappointment.

If you’re planning to enjoy some recreational activities in the parks, make sure to get the necessary permits. You can easily obtain vessel and boat permits, activity permits, and other recreational permits at the Park reception areas located on Thesen Island office (Knysna) and Ebb & Flow Rest Camp in Wilderness.

But if you’re looking to go fishing or collect bait, the permits for that can only be purchased from the South African Post Office (SAPO) during their operating hours.

For those who need Annual or Seasonal Vessel Permits, you can buy them at the Thesen Island office (Knysna) from Monday to Friday between 8 am and 4 pm, and on Saturdays between 8 am and 1 pm.

If you’re planning to go cycling, it’s important to have the right permits. You can get annual, monthly, family, and daily cycling permits from the Garden of Eden, Harkerville Office, or Diepwalle Office. Don’t forget that a valid permit is required, or you might end up with a fine.
