The Old Cellar Museum: A Journey Through Time
When I visited Nederburg, I couldn’t help but be amazed by the incredible history that the winery holds. It all started back in 1791 when Philippus Wolvaart founded the winery. The fascinating artifacts and pictures showcased in the Old Cellar Museum truly bring that history to life.
But Nederburg isn’t just about the past; it’s also about the present and the future. They have a state-of-the-art wine cellar where the talented cellar master, Lizelle Gerber, and her team work tirelessly to create exceptional wines that have won numerous awards. It’s truly a testament to their passion and dedication.
If you’re as intrigued as I am by history and the art of winemaking, I highly recommend taking a guided tour of the wine cellar. It’s an opportunity to see the process behind the production of these award-winning vintages firsthand. Plus, you might just learn a thing or two that you can impress your friends with at your next dinner party!

5. Qhubeka bicycle assembly facility
Guess what? You wouldn’t believe what I found at a wine farm! It’s not your typical winery experience, that’s for sure. Nederburg has something truly unique: a partnership with Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka. Now you might be wondering, “What in the world is that?” Well, let me tell you!
Team Dimension Data is a pretty cool cycling team. And get this – they race for a good cause! Their goal is to raise money for Qhubeka, a nonprofit organization in South Africa. What does Qhubeka do? They donate bicycles to underprivileged communities. How awesome is that?
But here’s something even more fascinating: Nederburg has a facility where unemployed women put together the Qhubeka bicycles. These bikes are then distributed all across the country. It’s truly amazing to see the impact these women are making!
If you visit Nederburg, you can actually meet the team behind the bicycles. And guess what? They’re not just any team – they’re master bicycle mechanics! Meet Beverley Roode and Janine Johnson of Bicycles & Beyond (BAB). They’re the ones who manage the facility on behalf of Qhubeka. So not only can you enjoy some fine wine at Nederburg, but you can also witness the power of teamwork and giving back.
