Discover Five Amazing Pizza Spots in Johannesburg!
Who doesn’t adore a delightful, mouthwatering pizza? It’s the one food temptation that I simply can’t resist. We all know that the secret to a truly heavenly pizza lies in its wood-fired oven. Instead of settling for subpar takeaway options, let me introduce you to the crème de la crème of Johannesburg’s pizza scene. Here are five exceptional pizza restaurants that will blow your taste buds away!
1. Andiccio 24 – A Pizza Haven That Never Sleeps
What began as a humble solitary takeout joint has blossomed into a franchise empire with various branches across Johannesburg and Pretoria. The charm of Andiccio lies in the fact that they are open 24 hours a day on weekends and until the wee hours of the morning on weekdays. To top it off, they even offer free delivery within a small radius of their stores.
When you step into Andiccio, you won’t find a traditional menu. Instead, there’s a tantalizing assortment of toppings waiting for you to create your dream pizza. It’s a pay-per-topping system that gives you the freedom to customize your pie exactly the way you like it. If you’re a pizza purist, this minimalist approach will be perfect for you. However, if you’re craving a loaded pizza with all the fixings, be prepared to pay a bit more. Toppings like garlic and chili, which are usually complimentary at restaurants, will cost you R5 each here.
But let me assure you, the quality of the ingredients and cleanliness of Andiccio are unbeatable. As you wait, you can witness your pizza come to life right before your eyes. And if that isn’t enough, they also offer Haagen Dazs ice cream and Illy coffee, so you can indulge in a complete dining experience.
2. Ciro’s
If you’re looking for a restaurant that’s truly old school, you won’t even find a website for these guys! That’s because they’ve been around since 1985. Started in Brixton and now in Douglasdale too, they’ve mastered the art of pizza-making with their signature homely, slightly burnt, chewy crust that will keep you coming back for more.
And here’s the cherry on top: they give you free garlic focaccia as a starter, and their menu is reasonably priced to begin with. It’s a win-win situation!
You can find them at: Shop 14, Waterford Shopping Centre Cnr. Witkoppen & Nerine Road, Douglasdale

3. Piza e Vino
Piza e Vino is one of the popular Melrose Arch restaurants where you can enjoy amazing food and a lively atmosphere. Sometimes, you’re willing to compromise on the food if the ambiance is great. But at Piza e Vino, with branches in Brooklyn, Rosebank, and Melrose Arch, you won’t have to make that choice. Their pizzas are always a hit, unless you accidentally order a “small” size. Trust me, don’t waste your time with that – the “small” pizzas are tiny compared to the regular ones, and the price difference is way out of proportion.
For larger groups, you can ask to be seated on the semi-private balcony at the Melrose Arch Branch without any extra charges. And let me tell you, Piza e Vino has the best salads in Jozi. So, if your partner is craving pizza and you want to eat something healthy, go for their grilled chicken salad. I guarantee you both will leave happy and satisfied.
4. Col’Cacchio
If you’re a food lover in South Africa, you’ve probably heard of Col’Cacchio. This fancy pizza and pasta place is known for its upscale atmosphere and delicious food. While it may not be the cheapest option out there, their pizzas will blow you away with their unique and flavorful combinations of ingredients. It’s definitely a must-visit for any pizza connoisseur. And if you’re an adventurous eater, you won’t want to miss their monthly celebrity chef pizza, which promises to be a culinary masterpiece.
But Col’Cacchio isn’t just about pizza. Their desserts are equally impressive. You can’t go wrong with their indulgent Lindt Chocolate Panna Cotta or their decadent Lindt Chocolate Brownies. They’re absolute winners and the perfect way to end your meal.
5. Life Grand Cafe
When it comes to Hyde Park Shopping Centre, there are two restaurants that really stand out: Life and Tasha’s le Parc. These spots are so popular that people are willing to brave the high prices just to eat there. While Tasha’s le Parc is known for their amazing burgers (which I’ll tell you all about in another post), Life is all about reinventing pizza.
Life has a “no reservation” policy, so you might have to wait for a table. But trust me, it’s totally worth it. While you wait, they’ll even treat you to a refreshing mint and watermelon granita. And when your pizza arrives, you’ll see why everyone loves this place. They have all the classic pizzas you know and love, but they also offer a unique selection of focaccias with various toppings.
Let’s face it, plain old tomato and cheese pizza can get a little boring. So if you’re in the mood for something different, their focaccias are a real game-changer. The crust is perfectly baked, and the toppings are fresh and flavorful. Life really knows how to put a twist on the classics.
If you’re in the mood for some mouthwatering pizza, head over to Hyde Park Shopping Centre and give Life a try. You won’t be disappointed!
