Welcome to Cape Town with Stuart Taylor
Hey there! I’m Stuart Taylor, a comedian living in the beautiful city of Cape Town. Let me be your personal guide as I show you the best places to eat, drink, swim, and stargaze in the Mother City.
So, I’m a comedian, or as I like to say, a funny guy. Well, most of the time. But when I want to impress a big shot, I throw in the title of “author” too. It adds a certain pizzazz, you know?
Let me tell you, Cape Town has so much to offer and it’s hard to pick just one thing I love the most. But if I had to choose, it would be the lack of potholes and the subtle racism. Just kidding! Well, about the potholes at least. It’s the beautiful landscapes, vibrant culture, and incredible diversity that really steal my heart.
When my friends from out of town come to visit, I make sure they have the time of their lives. First stop, Groot Constantia for a delicious lunch. The best part is, since it’s so close, we can indulge in some wine without worrying about expensive cab rides. Then, we head to Haiku for some mind-blowing dim sum. Trust me, it’s a taste sensation. And if you’re up for a good laugh, I’ll take you to Cape Town Comedy Club. Not only do we get discounted drinks, but the comedians there are seriously hilarious. After all the food and laughter, we relax at Muizenberg Beach. We start with a scrumptious breakfast at Knead, and then we simply bask in the sun on the sandy shores. The water there is warmer than the Atlantic, so no worries about freezing your buns off!
Let me tell you about the most amazing meal I’ve ever had. It was at Reuben’s in Franschhoek, and I am not exaggerating when I say you have to experience it yourself before you leave this world!
There is another place my family and I enjoy eating at. It’s called 5 Rooms in Constantia, and their winter menu is absolutely delicious. We love the cozy atmosphere, the warm fire, and the friendly staff. If we’re looking for a more casual meal with the kids, we often go to the Spur. They have fantastic play areas that keep the little ones entertained while we enjoy our meal.
Every year, there’s a special event that I never miss in Cape Town. It’s called The Big Walk, and it’s not only a fun experience but also for a good cause. My friend always manages to guilt-trip me into hosting it, but I can’t say no because it’s such a great event.
When it comes to weekend getaways, my absolute favorite is Montagu. The warm springs, the charming rustic vibes, and the breathtaking starry nights make it the perfect escape from the city.
Believe it or not, there’s still something on my bucket list that I haven’t done in Cape Town: visiting Robben Island. It’s a shame, I know. I really need to make it happen soon!
You won’t believe where the best coffee in Cape Town is. Apparently, it’s at Truth. But to be honest, I’m still a Vida fan because they have this amazing rewards program. Plus, I actually make a pretty mean cup of coffee at home.
If you’re looking for the best walks in Cape Town, you should definitely check out Constantia. It’s filled with beautiful greenbelts that are perfect for taking a stroll. My personal favorite is De Hel, just off Southern Cross Drive. It’s a hit with the whole family.
When it comes to my favorite drink, I can’t resist a Spiced Gold and Coke Light – whether it’s a special occasion or just a regular day!
Right now, I’m busy getting ready for my new show, called BeSpoke. It’s going to be at the Baxter from September 22nd to October 3rd. I’m so excited to share it with everyone!
On Sundays, I like to start the day with a yummy breakfast out with my family. Then, to end the week on a high note, I have a braai (barbecue) with some friends. Once the kids are in bed, I love adding more logs to the fire and just gazing at the dancing flames. It’s such a peaceful way to unwind.
Wow, the Banting diet is no joke, although I’m totally on board with cutting back on carbs and sugar (except for Spiced Gold and Coke Light).
Money makes the world go round, doesn’t it?
I tell you what, right after I finish this, I’m heading straight to bed. (I hope you can’t tell how exhausted I am by the way I’m answering.)
One of these days, I’m going to rock Madison Square Garden.
Let me just say, the funniest person in politics is CIA agent, Dr. Chester Missing, with our President coming in as a close second.
You wouldn’t believe it, but BeSpoke will be showing at the Baxter Theatre until October 3rd. You should read our review.
