One morning, while I was sitting at my desk, doing what travel writers do, an email arrived in my inbox. I could tell right away that it wasn’t from a friend or coworker, so I decided to set it aside and stay focused on my work. I must admit, I felt a bit accomplished for my display of discipline and concentration.

I’m currently researching for an upcoming trip to the Seychelles, a stunning cluster of 115 islands nestled in the Indian Ocean, just north-northeast of Madagascar. Specifically, I’m interested in finding activities to do on the main island of Mahé. Interestingly, I discovered that Mahé has a replica of London’s Big Ben, affectionately known as Little Big Ben, located in the charming town of Victoria. This little tidbit of information instantly captures my attention and sets my mind on fire with possibilities.

But wait a minute, it suddenly occurs to me that my flights to and from Mahé will be with Ethiopian Airlines. I vaguely recall receiving an email from them, although I’ve been skillfully avoiding it. Yet, as this internal debate unfolds within the synapses of my brain, I begin to wonder: was that email actually important? Could it contain crucial information that I’ve been neglecting?

I can’t believe it. I’m sitting here, completely distracted, trying to find that email among all the junk that somehow found its way into my inbox. I really need to get better at managing my emails. But finally, I spot it – an email from Ethiopian Airlines. They want me to make an offer for an upgrade to their Cloud Nine service, which turns out to be their Business and First Class experience. Well, I certainly won’t say no to that!

So, this whole adventure started when I decided to go to Seychelles. I was so excited about it! And before I knew it, I found myself on a plane in business class, sipping on some fancy bubbles!

Hey there! So, guess what? Ethiopian Airlines, the flag carrier of Ethiopia, has been soaring the skies for more than 70 years! It’s actually a pretty big deal in Africa and flies to over 100 different places around the world. How cool is that? Now, here’s the thing. When I fly with Ethiopian Airlines, my journey usually takes me through Addis Ababa, which is where their main airport is located. It’s called the Addis Ababa Bole International Airport, and it’s a super important hub for Ethiopian Airlines. You know what’s great about flying in the fancy Cloud Nine business class? I get to hang out in their special lounge during my layover. It’s a nice way to relax and take a breather before my next flight. So convenient!

As I make my way towards the shower area in the lounge, I can’t help but appreciate the convenience of being able to freshen up during my journey. It’s one of those little luxuries that makes a big difference. Not only do I get to enjoy a delicious meal and have unlimited access to drinks, but I also have a power outlet for my Mac, allowing me to be productive during my layover. And let’s not forget the breathtaking sunrise I witnessed over Addis Ababa earlier that morning. It’s moments like these that make my heart sing as a travel writer.

I had the chance to taste Ethiopian cuisine during my flight in Cloud Nine. It was a pleasant surprise to find some of my favorite dishes on the menu. I remembered the first time I tried Ethiopian food back home in Maboneng, and I couldn’t wait to have it again.

One dish that caught my attention was kitfo, a traditional Ethiopian dish made with raw minced beef. It was served on injera, a type of bread that is unique to Ethiopian cuisine. I also had irgo, which is a type of yoghurt, and some mitmita, a spicy chili powder.

I learned that kitfo is believed to have originated in the southern region of Ethiopia. It’s similar to steak tartare, where the meat is raw and seasoned with various spices. The best part about eating Ethiopian food is that you get to use your hands. It’s the traditional way and also the best way to fully enjoy the flavors and immerse yourself in the Ethiopian dining experience.

I couldn’t help but appreciate the fact that I was having this authentic Ethiopian meal while soaring above the African continent at 40,000 feet. It made the experience even more special and memorable.

Ah, the joys of Cloud Nine. The extra legroom and those fully flat beds make it one heck of a delightful experience. And let’s not forget about the unlimited bubbly flowing freely. It’s a tough call, but I’d say it’s a tie between the two.

After all the sun I soaked up during my island hopping escapade in Seychelles, a good night’s sleep on the way home was just what the doctor ordered. It was the perfect way to recover and recharge.

Now, I’ve got a word of advice for you when you come across those spammy emails. Don’t worry, I’m not saying the Nigerian prince truly has your heart’s desires in mind. But listen here, Ethiopian Airlines might just surprise you with an incredible offer that you won’t be able to resist.
