Charities in Cape Town: 26 Ways to Give Back
Let’s all give a little bit of our love to make Cape Town a better place.
“The happiest people are not those getting more, but those giving more,” said American author Harriett Jackson Brown Jr. It’s true, being able to help your community is one of life’s greatest joys.
With Mandela Day approaching, I want to showcase some amazing initiatives in Cape Town that give you the chance to do good all year round. You can volunteer for a day or even commit to helping every week or month. Sometimes, when you give love, you receive it in return.
What cause means the most to you? Share it with us in the comments below!
For the Earth
Greenpop
Misha Teasdale once lived a nomadic life, traveling the world for work. In 2010, he realized the negative impact his lifestyle had on the environment. He discussed his concerns with friends, and together they raised funds to plant 1,000 trees in under-greened, marginalized areas of Cape Town. They didn’t expect what happened next. Their phones were flooded with calls from organizations and companies wanting to help plant trees. This overwhelming support led to the birth of Greenpop. Today, Greenpop spreads environmental awareness, hosts green festivals and workshops, and plants trees through urban greening and reforestation projects.
How can you help? You can assist with fundraising, make donations, attend events, intern, or volunteer. Learn more about how to get involved.

Discover the Wonders of the Animal Ocean
Have you ever wondered about the incredible creatures that live beneath the surface of the deep blue sea? Let me take you on a journey to explore the fascinating world of the animal ocean.
The animal ocean is a vast and mysterious place, teeming with life. It is home to an astonishing variety of creatures, each more magnificent and unique than the last. From playful dolphins to majestic whales, from colorful coral reefs to mysterious shipwrecks, there is so much to discover and admire.
One of the most enchanting inhabitants of the animal ocean is the sea turtle. These gentle giants have been swimming in the sea for millions of years, and they play a vital role in keeping our oceans healthy. Sea turtles are known for their graceful movements and their ability to navigate across vast distances.
And have you ever heard of bioluminescence? It is a natural phenomenon that occurs in the animal ocean, where organisms produce light. Imagine swimming at night and being surrounded by a glowing, magical world. It is truly a sight to behold.
The animal ocean also holds a world of mysteries yet to be explored. Deep sea creatures, like the anglerfish and the giant squid, lurk in the darkness, their otherworldly forms adapted to their extreme environment. Exploring the deep sea is like venturing into an alien world, where the rules we know no longer apply.
However, the animal ocean is not without its challenges. Human activities, such as pollution and overfishing, threaten the delicate balance of this unique ecosystem. It is up to each and every one of us to protect and preserve the animal ocean for future generations.
So, whether you are a nature enthusiast, an adventurer, or simply someone who appreciates the wonders of the natural world, the animal ocean has something for everyone. Dive in and discover the magic that lies beneath the waves.

Hey there! Wondering about the significance of choosing the right font? Well, I’ve got you covered! Fonts play a crucial role in how we perceive and engage with written content. It’s amazing how these different typefaces can evoke unique emotions and convey distinct messages.
When I stumble upon a website or a document, the font choice is one of the first things that catches my eye. The aesthetics of the text immediately draw me in, making me curious about what lies within.
But it’s not just about appearances. The right font has the power to enhance comprehension and make the reading experience more enjoyable. A clean, legible font can reduce any potential distraction, keeping me focused on the message being conveyed.
Think about it! Have you ever struggled to read a block of text because the font was too thin, cramped, or jumbled together? Quite frustrating, right? That’s where the importance of choosing the right font shines! When plucking the perfect font from the typographic sea, consider one that strikes a balance between being visually interesting and easy to read.
Now, let’s talk about the emotional aspect. Different fonts can tap into our feelings and influence our interpretation of the words in front of us. Just imagine reading a spooky story in a playful, childlike font. It would certainly impact the way you perceive the narrative, wouldn’t it?
So, whether you’re designing a website, creating marketing materials, or just trying to find the perfect font for your personal project, remember that the font you choose speaks volumes. It can evoke emotions, set the tone, and even make or break the overall impression.
Now that you have this knowledge tucked away, go forth and explore the wonderful world of fonts. Find the one that perfectly captures the essence of your message and leaves a lasting impact on your audience. Happy typography adventures!

In 2015, I embarked on a project that has since gained remarkable momentum, much like the crashing waves of the ocean. It all began with my passion for the environment, and now The Beach Co-op has evolved into a movement dedicated to tackling the issue of single-use plastic. Our mission is simple: remove plastic debris from our beaches and refuse it in our own lives. But it doesn’t stop there. We also work to influence manufacturers to design plastic packaging with recyclability in mind.
So, how can you join us in making a difference? It’s easy! Just keep a close eye on our Facebook and Instagram pages for regular and new moon beach cleanup events that are open to the public. By participating in these events, you become part of our movement, actively contributing to cleaner and healthier beaches. The event times vary depending on the dates of each cleanup and the cycles of the moon, so make sure to stay updated.
If you’re interested in learning more about our work or have any questions, you can reach out to us at thebeachcoop@gmail.com. We’re always happy to connect and share our enthusiasm for creating a world free from plastic pollution.
Join us in Cape Town as we take the plunge into a brighter, cleaner future. Together, we can make a lasting impact on our environment.

Surfpop
Hey there! So, you’re curious about surfpop, huh? Well, let me tell you all about it!
Surfpop is a genre of music that combines the exhilarating sounds of surf rock with the catchy melodies and upbeat rhythms of pop music. It’s like riding a wave of infectious tunes that transport you to a sun-drenched beach, even if you’re just chilling in your bedroom.
When I first heard surfpop, I couldn’t help but be drawn in by its irresistible charm. The twangy guitars, the driving drumbeats, and the soaring harmonies all work together to create a sound that is both nostalgic and fresh. It’s like taking a ride in a vintage convertible along the coast, with the wind in your hair and the sun on your face.
One of the things I love most about surfpop is its ability to instantly lift your spirits. Whether you’re feeling down or you just want to add a little extra pep to your step, surfpop has got your back. The infectious energy of the music is contagious, and it’s impossible to resist its pull.
But surfpop is more than just fun and games. It’s also a genre that has a rich history and a deep connection to its roots. With origins in the sunny beaches of Southern California in the 1960s, surfpop has evolved over the years, but it has never lost its essence. It’s like a time capsule, preserving the carefree spirit of those early surf days.
So, if you’re looking to add a little sunshine to your playlist, surfpop is a surefire way to go. With its irresistible blend of surf and pop, it’s a genre that will have you grooving along in no time. Whether you’re hitting the waves or just daydreaming about them, surfpop is the perfect soundtrack to your sunny adventures.
So grab your board, put on your favorite surfpop playlist, and let the music take you on a wild ride. Trust me, once you dive into the world of surfpop, you won’t want to come back!
Hey there! Looking for a way to have a blast while making a positive impact? Well, look no further than this amazing initiative based in Muizenberg, the surf hub of Cape Town. They’ve come up with a totally rad approach to community outreach by offering surfing lessons to kids from tough backgrounds and disadvantaged areas. It’s all about teaching them important values like communication and dedication, while also giving them something super exciting to look forward to each week – catching some gnarly waves! And that’s not all. Besides the surf sessions, they also provide help with homework (including math and English), host workshops to teach useful skills, and make sure the kids have a nutritious meal. Isn’t that awesome?
So, how can you help? They welcome financial contributions and donations of things like surfboards, wetsuits, clothes, laptops, stationery, and art supplies.
Here’s what you need to know: They mainly recruit international volunteers who can commit to a minimum of four weeks. To join, you need to be at least 18, know how to swim, and provide a motivational letter, CV, and a police clearance certificate.
When can you get involved? They run daily sessions starting at 3pm.
How to get in touch: Call them at 064 901 6202 or email info@surfpop.co.za or daniel@surfpop.co.za.

Full Tummy Fund
It’s me! I want to talk to you about something important – the Full Tummy Fund. Have you ever heard of it? It’s a fantastic initiative that helps provide food for children who may not have enough to eat. I want to explain why this is so crucial and why we should all support it.
The Full Tummy Fund is a special project that aims to make sure every child has a full tummy. It’s a simple idea, but it has a big impact. When kids don’t have enough to eat, it makes it hard for them to do well in school or have the energy to play. But when they have a full tummy, they can focus on learning, growing, and enjoying their childhood.
You might be wondering how you can help. Well, there are a few ways you can get involved. One way is to donate money to the Full Tummy Fund. This money goes directly towards buying food for hungry children. Every dollar makes a difference, and even a small donation can go a long way in feeding a child in need.
Another way to help is by volunteering your time. The Full Tummy Fund often organizes events and activities to raise awareness and funds. By lending a hand at these events, you can make a positive impact and show your support for hungry children.
But it’s not just about donating money or volunteering. You can also spread the word about the Full Tummy Fund. Tell your friends, family, and neighbors about this amazing initiative. The more people who know about it, the more support we can gather, and the more children we can help.
So, I encourage you to take a moment and think about the Full Tummy Fund. Imagine how it feels to go to bed hungry, or to have a growling stomach during class. It’s not a pleasant feeling, and it’s something no child should experience. By supporting the Full Tummy Fund, you can make a difference in the lives of these children and help ensure they have a full tummy every day. Together, we can make sure no child goes to bed hungry.
I am a part of the Spur Foundation, which focuses on helping children from disadvantaged communities with their early childhood development (ECD) and nutrition. Our main goal is to raise awareness about the importance of a child’s formative years. We also provide training for ECD teachers and supply educational materials to ECD centers. Additionally, we make sure that these children receive proper nutrition while they are at school. This is crucial for their overall well-being and development.
If you would like to support our cause, you can make a donation through electronic funds transfer (EFT) or online. All the details for making a donation can be found on our website. You can also follow us on Instagram to stay updated on our activities and help us spread the word about our work.
If you have any questions or need more information, you can contact us at 021 555 5100 or send an email to info@fulltummyfund.co.za. We are here to help!
Our organization is located at 14 Edison Way, Century Gate Business Park, Century City, Cape Town. Feel free to visit us if you are in the area. We would love to show you how we are making a difference in the lives of these children.
Baphumelele Children’s Home
When Baphumelele was first started, it was just a crèche and pre-school. But now, it has become a safe and comforting home for children who have been neglected, orphaned, and mistreated. The name “Baphumelele” means “you have progressed” in Xhosa, and that’s exactly what happens here. Thanks to the dedicated and caring team led by Rosalia Mashale, or “Mama Rosie,” these children’s lives are being transformed. Some of them are just a few months old, but they are finding love and happiness here every single day. Baphumelele not only helps children in their home, but they also support the wider community of Khayelitsha through nine different projects.
So, how can you help? If you want to make a difference, you can volunteer at Baphumelele. They have month-long programs for volunteers, organized by Via Volunteer. This is perfect for foreigners who are looking for a more long-term commitment. If you don’t have that much time, you can still contribute by spending a few hours a day at the home. You can help with painting the colorful walls of the playground or assist the staff with various tasks like making bottles, preparing snacks, brushing teeth, cleaning syringes, cutting vegetables, and even tutoring and playing with the children. Donations are always appreciated too.
Here are the details:
– Baphumelele is open from Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.
– You can contact them at 021 361 8631 or send an email to info@baphumelele.org.za or rosie@baphumelele.org.za.
– You can also visit their Facebook page to learn more.
– Baphumelele is located at Z118 Dabula Street, Khayelitsha, Cape Town.

Lalela
Lalela, meaning “listen” in Zulu, is an incredible organization that combines arts education and entrepreneurship to create positive change in communities affected by poverty and inequality. Through their various programs, Lalela empowers young people to find their creative voices and develop valuable life skills.
I’m here to tell you about Lalela and why I find their work so inspiring. You see, Lalela understands the power of art. They believe that every individual has a unique story to tell, and through artistic expression, these stories can be shared and celebrated.
When I first discovered Lalela, I was struck by their commitment to using art as a tool for social change. They recognize that creativity has the ability to transcend barriers and connect people from all walks of life. By providing access to arts education, Lalela gives young people the opportunity to explore their passions, express themselves, and develop a sense of identity and purpose.
But Lalela’s impact goes beyond the individual. Through their programs, they aim to uplift entire communities. They work hand in hand with local partners to address specific challenges faced by each community, whether it be lack of resources or limited opportunities. By collaborating with artists, educators, and community leaders, Lalela creates a supportive environment where young people can thrive and make a positive impact on their surroundings.
One aspect of Lalela that I find particularly remarkable is their focus on entrepreneurship. They understand that artistic talent alone is not always enough to create sustainable change. That’s why they provide training in creative entrepreneurship, teaching young people how to leverage their skills and turn their passions into viable careers. By nurturing entrepreneurship, Lalela is equipping young people with the tools to break the cycle of poverty and create a brighter future for themselves and their communities.
But it doesn’t stop there. Lalela is also dedicated to fostering a global community of artists and creative thinkers. They host exhibitions and events that not only showcase the incredible work of their students but also bring together artists, mentors, and supporters from around the world. This global network of creative minds helps to amplify the voices of Lalela’s students and create opportunities for collaboration and growth.
So, why am I sharing all of this with you? Because I believe in the transformative power of art, and I want to inspire you to get involved. Whether you’re an artist, a mentor, or simply someone who wants to make a difference, Lalela offers a variety of ways for you to contribute. By listening to the stories of these young artists and supporting their journey, you can help create a world where everyone’s voice is heard and celebrated.
So go ahead, lend your ear to Lalela. Listen to the stories they tell and the dreams they have. And together, let’s create a future where art and creativity uplift us all.
Imagine a place where art has the power to change lives. That’s exactly what Lalela, an organization in Hout Bay, believes. They understand that creativity is a force that can spark new ideas and help at-risk youth discover their potential. Lalela’s mission is simple: to teach young people the qualities of entrepreneurship by nurturing their creative thinking. They create a safe and supportive environment where children can explore their imaginations, map out their dreams, and work towards their goals. And it’s not just about entertainment; Lalela also aims to keep children away from negative influences by engaging them in meaningful and enjoyable activities.
If you want to make a difference, there are several ways you can get involved. Lalela welcomes volunteers, especially during school holidays. If you’re an artist, you can contribute as a “guest artist” and share your creative processes with the children. And if you’re looking for a way to give back, you can join Lalela’s Class Campaign and contribute to the gift of #LifeChangingArt. Your support will help inspire and empower young minds.
So, how can you reach out to Lalela? You can contact them at 021 790 1108 or send an email to dominique@lalela.org. Their center is located at 23 Brighton Street in Hout Bay, Cape Town. The Street Store: A Revolutionary Concept for Helping Those in Need
I recently came across an incredible initiative called The Street Store. The Street Store is an innovative idea that aims to provide clothing and other essential items to people experiencing homelessness. What makes The Street Store unique is its approach: it is not your typical store. Instead, it is a pop-up shop that is set up on the streets, making it easily accessible to those who need it the most.
The concept behind The Street Store is simple yet powerful. It involves setting up a store-like display on the sidewalks, where clothing and other items are hung on racks or displayed on tables. These items are all donated by members of the community who want to make a difference. The Street Store uses catchy slogans and signs to grab people’s attention, encouraging them to take what they need. The best part is that it’s all free.
Imagine walking down the street and seeing a store where everything is up for grabs. You can choose clothes that fit your style and size, and you can even try them on in the makeshift fitting rooms. It’s like a shopping experience, but without the price tags. The Street Store aims to give homeless individuals the dignity and autonomy to choose the clothing that resonates with them, making them feel valued and respected.
The impact of The Street Store goes beyond just providing clothes. It brings a sense of normalcy and inclusion to those who often feel marginalized by society. It reminds them that they are not forgotten and that their needs matter. It also creates an opportunity for people to connect and interact with individuals experiencing homelessness, fostering empathy and understanding.
The success of The Street Store relies on the generosity of the community. Donations of clothing, shoes, and other essentials are what keep the store stocked and ready to serve. The Street Store encourages everyone to get involved, whether it’s by donating items, volunteering their time, or spreading the word about this extraordinary initiative.
So, the next time you clean out your closet or think about tossing out those clothes you no longer wear, consider donating them to The Street Store. Your contributions can go a long way in helping someone in need. The Street Store is a true testament to the power of compassion and the difference we can make when we come together as a community. Join the movement and be part of something truly remarkable.
In 2014, we launched our first pop-up store, and since then, we have grown to over 780 stores and counting! Our mission is to provide those in need with a unique and uplifting shopping experience by bringing a free store directly to them. We are proud to be known as the world’s first rent-free, premises-free, free pop-up clothing store for the homeless. Our concept is simple yet powerful – we combine a donation drop-off point with a collection center, all in one single spot and at the same exact time. This allows those in need to browse and shop for what they want, while also providing donors the opportunity to meet and connect with individuals experiencing homelessness. By breaking down barriers and challenging stereotypes, we are not only making a difference but also bringing joy and positivity to everyone involved.
How Can You Help? Since we value one-on-one interaction, we kindly ask that all donations be made on the day of the store event. Keep an eye out for upcoming events in your area, so you can make a day of it – bringing your gently used clothing items to donate and helping our shoppers find their perfect picks. If you’re interested in hosting a pop-up store in your own community, we have a guidebook and designs available for download on our website.
Store Locations We are constantly expanding, so be sure to stay updated on the next store near you. Subscribe to our newsletter for the latest information.
Contact Us For any inquiries or questions, feel free to reach out to us at hello@thestreetstore.org.
Where to Find Us Our store locations vary depending on the event. Stay connected with our newsletter to know where we’ll be next.
The Sunflower Fund
Hey there! I want to talk to you about The Sunflower Fund. This amazing organization is all about saving lives and fighting against blood diseases like leukemia. They work tirelessly to match patients in need of a stem cell transplant with potential donors. It’s truly a remarkable effort.
Now, you might be wondering how they do it. Well, let me break it down for you. The Sunflower Fund keeps a big, diverse database of potential donors. These donors are regular folks like you and me who are willing to give a part of themselves to help someone in need. When someone needs a transplant, The Sunflower Fund searches their database to find the best match. It’s like finding a needle in a haystack, but they make it happen!
But here’s the thing, becoming a donor is not as simple as signing up and waiting for a call. There are requirements and tests to make sure you’re a good match for someone. You have to be healthy and within a certain age range. They also have to do some blood tests and swabs to see if you’re a match. It’s a process, but it’s all worth it when you save a life.
Becoming a donor is a big responsibility and a huge gift. Just think about it. You have the power to give someone a second chance at life. It’s a selfless act that can bring hope and happiness to someone who’s going through a tough time. So, if you’re up for it, why not sign up and join The Sunflower Fund’s army of life-savers?
The Sunflower Fund is an organization that relies on the kindness and generosity of people like you. They need your support to keep doing their important work. Whether it’s through donations or spreading the word about their cause, every little bit helps. Together, we can make a difference and give hope to those who need it the most.
So, my friend, I hope this inspires you to take action and join The Sunflower Fund in their mission. Imagine the impact we can make if we all come together. Let’s be the sunlight in someone’s darkest days. Together, we can save lives and bring smiles to faces. Are you ready to make a difference? I know I am!
Dedicated to raising funds and awareness for people who are fighting against leukaemia and other dangerous blood disorders, this organization is making a difference by saving lives. They not only spread the message about the importance of donating blood, but they also recruit a diverse group of dedicated donors. The money they raise helps cover the cost of tissue-type testing, which can be quite expensive (sometimes up to R3,000!). The Sunflower Fund is changing people’s perception of blood donation and actively increasing the number of registered donors. They are turning hope into reality.
How can you help? There are different ways you can contribute to their cause. You can assist at the office during the week, helping out with general administrative tasks like organizing events, making phone calls, sorting forms, and finding items for auctions. If you have experience in event planning, graphic design, or social media, this volunteering opportunity is perfect for you! They also need help during educational talks and donor drives, which can take place both during office hours as well as on weekends. If you want to take your commitment to the next level, you can register as a stem-cell donor.
Working hours:
- Monday – Thursday: 8:30am – 4:30pm
- Friday: 8:30am – 2pm
Contact information:
You can reach the Sunflower Fund at 021 701 0661 or by emailing shelley@sunflowerfund.org. Their office is located at Office 106B, Richmond Centre, 174 – 206 Main Road, Plumstead.

Hi there! I want to share some information about the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA). It’s a really important organization that focuses on helping people with cancer, their families, and the larger community.
So, what does CANSA do? Well, they provide support to people with cancer and their loved ones. This support can come in many forms, such as counseling, advice, and even financial assistance. They have a team of caring professionals who are there to listen and help you through this tough time.
CANSA also works hard to spread awareness about cancer. They want to make sure that everyone knows about the disease and how to prevent it. They do this through education programs, campaigns, and community events. By raising awareness, they hope to reduce the number of people who get cancer in the first place.
Now, you might be wondering how you can get involved with CANSA. Well, there are many ways! You can become a member and support their cause. You can also volunteer your time or donate money to help fund their important work. Every little bit helps, and together we can make a big difference in the fight against cancer.

Let me tell you why CANSA is so important when it comes to cancer research and taking care of patients. They are a leading organization in the country that focuses on all things related to cancer. Their goal is to help through research, education, support, and advocacy. They even offer a free tele-counselling service in seven different languages.
One way that CANSA supports patients is by providing care homes and TLC lodges. These care homes are located in South Africa’s main cities and serve as a home-away-from-home for patients who don’t live nearby. It’s a comforting place for them to stay while they undergo treatment. The TLC lodges are specifically for parents and guardians of children receiving treatment.
If you want to help out, there are many ways to get involved. You can offer care and support to those affected by visiting their homes, joining counseling sessions, or participating in support groups. Another option is to assist with fundraising projects from start to finish. If you prefer a more hands-on approach, you can volunteer at one of the care centers by answering phone calls, taking messages, and organizing files.

Created by Oscars Ark, this pop-up dog adoption program is like no other. Every weekend, they set up shop in a different location, bringing adorable and well-adjusted dogs from shelters straight to you. The Southern African Foundation for the Conservation of Coastal Birds (SANCCOB)
I want to tell you about an organization called the Southern African Foundation for the Conservation of Coastal Birds, also known as SANCCOB. I think they’re doing some amazing work, and I’m excited to share it with you.
SANCCOB is dedicated to protecting and rehabilitating coastal birds in Southern Africa. They focus on species like penguins, gannets, and cormorants, which can face serious threats in their natural habitats. It’s incredible to think about the challenges these birds face every day, and SANCCOB is there to help.
When I first learned about SANCCOB, I was amazed at the incredible care they provide for sick, injured, and abandoned birds. They have a team of dedicated professionals who work tirelessly to rescue and rehabilitate these birds, giving them a second chance at life. It’s heartwarming to know that there are people out there who care so deeply about these birds and are willing to do whatever it takes to help them.
One of the things that impressed me the most about SANCCOB is their commitment to education and outreach. They understand that raising awareness and teaching people about the importance of conserving coastal birds is key to their long-term survival. Through workshops, presentations, and interactive programs, they are able to reach a wide audience and inspire others to take action.
It’s not just about the individual birds, though. SANCCOB also works on important research and conservation projects to help protect these species and their habitats. They collaborate with other organizations, scientists, and researchers to better understand the challenges these birds face and find innovative solutions to protect them.
If you love birds and want to help make a difference, I encourage you to support SANCCOB. Whether it’s through donations, volunteering your time, or spreading the word about their work, every little bit counts. Together, we can ensure that these beautiful coastal birds have a fighting chance for the future.
I hope you found this information about SANCCOB as fascinating as I did. It’s organizations like these that give me hope for the future of our planet and remind me of the importance of protecting our natural world. Let’s all do our part to make a difference and ensure that these incredible birds continue to grace our coastlines for years to come.
Since 1968, SANCCOB has been taking care of birds in need. They rescue, rehabilitate, and release ill, injured, abandoned, and oiled seabirds. The birds they focus on the most are the endangered African penguins and about 24 other seabird species from Southern Africa. Every year, they work hard to nurse these birds back to health and set them free.
How can you help? You can make a difference by giving money or offering your time as a volunteer. Volunteering allows you to feed and care for the injured birds. If you want a more personal touch, you can also adopt a penguin. However, the penguin will stay with SANCCOB and you’ll get to name it. You won’t be able to bring it home, though.
When can you visit? SANCCOB is open from Monday to Sunday, between 9 am and 4 pm.
How can you contact them? You can reach them at 021 557 6155 or send an email to info@sanccob.co.za. In case of emergencies after hours, you can also call 078 638 3731.
Where are they located? SANCCOB is situated at 22 Pentz Drive, Table View, Cape Town.
SA Guide Dog Association
In 1953, I founded the South African Guide-Dogs Association for the Blind after I experienced firsthand the positive impact of training a guide dog. Since then, our organization has been dedicated to helping individuals with visual, physical, and developmental needs by providing them with specially trained dogs. This process involves training the dogs for up to nine months, and the entire journey, from birth to readiness, takes almost two years and costs nearly R300,000. We strive to make these incredible companions accessible to everyone in need, which is why we only ask for a R205 contribution. However, we can’t do it alone and rely on the support of volunteers and donors to ensure that everyone has access to a four-legged helper.
So how can you make a difference? You can sponsor a dog or donate towards the training and care of these amazing animals. If you want to contribute your time and effort, you can also volunteer. There are various opportunities to get involved, such as fundraising in your community, helping at events, or even becoming a puppy raiser. Visit https://guidedog.org.za/volunteer/ to find out more about how you can help.
If you have any questions or want to get in touch, our office is open from Monday to Friday, 8am to 4.30pm. You can reach us at 021 674 7395. Our headquarters are located at De Villiers House, 89 Belvedere Road, Claremont, Cape Town.
Welcome to the Lucky Lucy Foundation!
Hi there! I’m Lucy, and I’m here to tell you all about the amazing work we do at the Lucky Lucy Foundation. Let’s dive in!
At the Lucky Lucy Foundation, we’re all about helping animals in need. Our mission is to provide a safe and loving home for every animal that comes through our doors. We believe that every animal deserves a chance at happiness, no matter their circumstances. So whether they’ve been abandoned, abused, or just need a new forever home, we’re here to help.
Now, you might be wondering how we do this. Well, it’s simple. We have a team of dedicated volunteers who work tirelessly to take care of our furry friends. From feeding and grooming to medical care and socialization, we make sure each and every animal gets the love and attention they deserve.
But our work doesn’t stop there. We also believe in the power of education. By teaching people about responsible pet ownership and the importance of spaying and neutering, we hope to prevent future cases of abandonment and mistreatment. We’re all about creating a world where every animal can live a happy and healthy life.
When you support the Lucky Lucy Foundation, you’re not just helping one animal – you’re making a difference in the lives of countless animals. So if you’re looking to make a real impact in the lives of animals, look no further than the Lucky Lucy Foundation. Together, we can create a world where every animal is loved and cared for. Join us today and be a part of something truly special. Together, we can change the lives of animals in need.
In 2010, we started Lucky Lucy after finding a pregnant dog tied to a railway line with wire. Despite losing a leg, she survived and earned the name Lucky Lucy. Our organization is now a non-profit foundation dedicated to rescuing and caring for neglected and abused street animals, advocating for their right to life and a good quality of life. We do more than help animals – we also strive to uplift communities and offer support to impoverished children and adults in the Cape.
If you want to get involved, there are several ways you can help. Financial contributions and donations are always appreciated. You can also volunteer your time to wash and walk the animals or take part in our adoption drives. Another option is becoming a Lucky Lucy Guardian Angel by committing to a monthly donation of R100.
We are open on Saturdays and Sundays from 9am to 2pm. If you would like to contact us, you can reach us at 072 779 7424 or send an email to contact@luckylucy.org or volunteer@luckylucy.org.
You can find us at Lucky Lucy Farm, located on the N7 between Philadelphia and Malmesbury in the Western Cape.

We can’t wait to welcome you to Farm Sanctuary SA!
The idea of a picturesque farm with happy farm animals is not always a reflection of reality. Unfortunately, the harsh truth is that there are many factory farms where cruelty runs rampant. These factories have darkened the food industry.
But Farm Sanctuary SA is fighting back. They are dedicated to rescuing animals from these horrible factory farms and providing them with a safe haven that resembles the idyllic farms we read about in books. Some of the happy residents include Pigcasso, the world’s one and only artistic pig, and Baloo, a male cow who was saved from a harsh living condition on Route 62.
How You Can Help There are many ways you can lend a hand to both our four-legged and two-legged friends! You can support them by purchasing some of Pigcasso’s incredible artwork. You can also make a difference by signing an online petition to ban gestation crates and by donating money. Additionally, you can take a veg pledge and contribute to a more compassionate lifestyle. If you have some free time, you can even volunteer to muck out stalls and feed the animals.
Farm Sanctuary SA also welcomes school groups for tours that are both informative and fun. It is a fantastic opportunity to learn more about the animals and the sanctuary’s mission.
Opening Hours We open daily from 11am to 3pm.

Tears
Have you ever wondered why we cry? It’s a strange phenomenon, isn’t it? The way tears just suddenly appear when we are feeling certain emotions. They come pouring out when we’re sad, or overwhelmed, or even when we’re happy. But why? What purpose do these tears serve?
Well, let me tell you a little secret: tears are actually pretty amazing. They have this incredible power to convey our deepest emotions without us having to say a single word. They are the language of our soul.
When tears fill our eyes and start trickling down our cheeks, it’s like a dam has burst open, allowing us to release pent-up emotions that we might not even be consciously aware of. It’s as if our body is saying, “Hey, you! Pay attention to what’s going on inside.”
And you know what’s even more amazing? Tears have real physical benefits too. They not only clean and lubricate our eyes, but they also help to flush out toxins from our body. It’s like a natural cleansing mechanism that our body has developed.
But perhaps the most beautiful aspect of tears is the connection they create between us. When someone sees us crying, it triggers empathy and compassion within them. It’s a reminder that we’re all human, that we all experience pain and joy, and that we’re not alone in this world.
So, the next time tears well up in your eyes, don’t fight them. Embrace them as a gift. They are a testament to our humanity, a reminder of our capacity to feel deeply. They are a window into our soul, speaking volumes when words fail.
Tears, my friend, are the truest expression of our heart.
When I saw the condition of the animals in the Masiphumelele community, I knew something had to be done. They were suffering, neglected, and in desperate need of help. That’s when three incredible women, Emma, Joan, and Marilyn, came together with a dream to create a rescue center for these animals. Tragically, Emma was taken from us in a car accident, but her memory lives on through The Emma Animal Rescue Society (TEARS), which was established in her honor by Joan and Marilyn back in 1999.
TEARS is a non-profit organization that has a mission to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome domestic animals that have been abandoned or abused. They also provide vital veterinary services to impoverished communities in the area. Their work is truly inspirational and lifesaving.
If you’re looking to make a difference, you can help TEARS in many ways. They are always in need of volunteers who are 16 years and older. You can spend time with the animals, give them some much-needed attention, and assist at events or in their charity shops. Any help is greatly appreciated. And if you have a knack for fundraising, you can also lend a hand in that area.
If you’re interested in volunteering, here are some opportunities:
- Enrichment for the shelter animals: Mondays, from 10 am to 3 pm
- Walking the animals: Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, from 10 am to 3 pm
If you want to get in touch with TEARS, you can reach them at 021 785 4482 or send an email to volunteer@tears.org.za or tears@tears.org.za. For after-hours medical emergencies, please call 071 864 4849 or 083 651 6343.
TEARS is located at 4 Lekkerwater Road in Sunnydale. Their address is a place where hope is restored and lives are saved. Join them in their mission to make this world a better place for our animal friends.
Cheetah Outreach
Imagine being up close and personal with one of the fastest land animals in the world – the cheetah. It’s an experience that leaves you in awe and wonder. Cheetahs are known for their incredible speed and agility, and getting to see them up close is a truly unforgettable experience.
Cheetah Outreach is an organization dedicated to the conservation and protection of the cheetah species. They aim to raise awareness about the threats faced by cheetahs in the wild and educate the public about the importance of conserving these magnificent creatures.
I had the privilege of visiting Cheetah Outreach and learning about their important work. It was amazing to see first-hand how dedicated they are to the well-being of these beautiful animals. They have a team of experts who work tirelessly to ensure the cheetahs in their care are healthy and happy.
During my visit, I was able to interact with some of the cheetahs and learn about their unique characteristics. Did you know that cheetahs are the only big cats that cannot roar? Instead, they communicate through a variety of different sounds, such as purring, chirping, and hissing.
One of the key goals of Cheetah Outreach is to educate the public about the importance of cheetah conservation. By learning about the challenges faced by cheetahs in the wild, people can better understand the need for conservation efforts. It’s crucial that we all take responsibility for protecting these incredible animals and their habitats.
If you’re looking for a memorable and educational experience, a visit to Cheetah Outreach is a must. Not only will you have the chance to see cheetahs up close, but you’ll also learn about the global efforts being made to protect this endangered species. By supporting organizations like Cheetah Outreach, we can all play a part in ensuring a future for cheetahs and other wildlife. So why not plan a visit and see these incredible creatures for yourself? You won’t be disappointed.
Did you know that cheetahs, once the fastest land animals in the world, are now endangered? It’s hard to believe that in just 100 years, their population has plummeted from 100,000 to just over 7,000. That’s where the Cheetah Outreach comes in – an organization with a crucial mission.
The Cheetah Outreach is dedicated to preserving the cheetahs, and they have a multi-faceted approach. They focus on environmental education, breeding dogs to protect livestock and promote peaceful coexistence between farmers and predators, and collaborate with other cheetah organizations worldwide. Their goal is simple – to reverse the decline and ensure the survival of these incredible creatures.
But how can you help? The Cheetah Outreach is always looking for volunteers who can spare four days a month. They also welcome students who want to gain experience in tourism, animal care, and conservation during their semester breaks. Don’t worry if you’re new to this – they provide training for all volunteers. Once trained, you may find yourself assisting with feeding the animals, cleaning their enclosures, giving tours, and even participating in cheetah encounters.
Here are the details you need:
- Opening Hours: Daily, from 9:30 am to 5:00 pm
- Contact Information: You can reach them at 021 851 6850 or via email at cheetah@intekom.co.za or volunteer@cheetah.co.za
- Location: Located in Paardevlei, Western Cape
By joining forces with the Cheetah Outreach, you can make a difference in the fight to protect these magnificent animals. Together, we can give cheetahs a fighting chance to thrive once again.

Hey there! Let me tell you about this amazing person named Mr. Jo from Khayelitsha. He had a big heart for animals and went around his neighborhood with a trolley and a bucket of water, taking care of and feeding the pets of the community. His kindness didn’t go unnoticed, and soon enough, he had people joining him to help out.
In 1996, thanks to the effort of one of the volunteers who secured funding from the International Fund of Animal Welfare, the project evolved and became the Mdzananda Animal Clinic. It all started with a single shipping container, with no water or electricity, but now it has grown into a fully functioning animal hospital. How awesome is that?
This clinic does so much to help animals. They offer consultations, surgery, hospitalization, mobile clinics, emergency ambulances, rehoming, and community education. They serve around 1,500 pets every month and are open six days a week. That’s a lot of furry friends getting the care they need!
So, how can you help? Well, there are many ways! You can foster a pet, offer your skills (like IT or electrical work, or even veterinary assistance), help out with their fundraising events, or donate things like blankets, food, newspapers, or money. Every little bit makes a difference!
Here are the clinic’s hours: Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, they are open from 8am to 4:30pm. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, the hours are from 9am to 4:30pm. Now you know when to visit!
If you need to get in touch, here’s the contact info: You can call them at 021 367 6001 or send an email to info@mdzananda.co.za or donations@mdzananda.co.za. They would love to hear from you!
And if you want to visit in person, here’s where you can find the clinic: It’s located at 21297 Govan Mbeki Road, Khayelitsha, Cape Town. You can’t miss it! They’re doing incredible work there. Let’s support them in any way we can!
