As the day comes to a close at Cederberg Ridge, we all come together on the fresh green grass to witness the beauty. Instead of facing the sunset like most people would, we do something different and turn our backs to it. We’re captivated by the way the mountains transform into a golden hue, almost like they’re dipped in sweet honey.
The main house at this incredible location has several amazing features. Inside, you’ll find a dining area, library, lounge, and spa. But what truly sets it apart is the stunning lawn that extends in front of it, like a lush carpet waiting to be explored.
As I stand here on the ridge, I can’t help but feel the grandeur of the Cederberg range. It stretches out before me like a magnificent tidal wave, and our spot is just a tiny ripple on its surface. The landscape is adorned with an assortment of trees, like peppers, quivers, and fever trees, which are scattered around the wild garden.
Looking towards the mountains, I spot Spitzkop, a prominent feature in this area. Intrigued, I decided to venture there on a guided walk. As I hiked, I came across abandoned farm cottages, remnants of a past long gone. Cape leopard tracks caught my eye, offering a rare glimpse into the lives of these majestic creatures. The rocks, covered in a vibrant red lichen, added a touch of color to the otherwise rugged landscape.
The main house itself is a masterpiece of local stone, skillfully crafted to blend in with nature. Its large, glass gables allow sunlight to flood the interior, creating an airy and bright space. As for the accommodation, there are nine rooms, each one carefully designed to offer a sense of understated luxury. Most of them are separate from the main building, opening up to the vast veld. And imagine this – outdoor showers and baths with panoramic views.

Hey there! Check out this awesome lodge I found. It’s got this cool firepit where you can stargaze. When I saw it, I instantly felt a cozy, bushy vibe. You know, the kind of place where you can just relax and kick off your shoes. I love that feeling!
The owner, Kate Bergh, started her tour business a whopping 25 years ago. And guess what? This lodge is the culmination of her long-held dream. Isn’t that amazing? She’s always wanted to showcase the beauty of the Cederberg, but back then, not many people knew about it. It was like a hidden gem compared to other popular tourist spots. You know the feeling when you visit a place with vast open spaces and you’re not quite sure what to do? Well, that’s how people felt when they came to the Cederberg.
But here’s the kicker: Kate and her team came up with a simple, brilliant idea. They made it easy for people to experience the Cederberg. All you have to do is get yourself here, or they can even pick you up from Cape Town. Once you’re here, they take care of everything and show you the wonders of the Cederberg. How cool is that?
When you visit this place, you’ll have a variety of activities to choose from. You can join guided walks to explore the beautiful High Cederberg or take a tour to see the fascinating rock art. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can spend a day on a boat at the Clanwilliam Dam, or even go down to the coast and make a stop at a rooibos farm along the way. And since this is the heartland of rooibos tea, you won’t want to miss the chance to visit the café in town where you can taste 100 different variations of this delicious tea.
There’s so much to see and do in this area,” says Kate. “But we’ve noticed that many guests simply prefer to relax by the pool, sipping wine and enjoying the stunning view.”
When I step into the 14-meter pool, I instantly know it’s my favorite place to hang out. The clear water and inviting atmosphere make it irresistible. It’s a sanctuary of relaxation and leisure.
But let me tell you, the best feature of this place isn’t just the pool. It’s the food. Chef Paul Wakelin is a master in the kitchen, and his passion for creating new recipes is evident in every single dish. He sources local flavors, infusing them into his meals and creating a culinary experience like no other. And to top it off, all the wines served here come from within an 80-kilometer radius, supporting local wineries and adding a touch of authenticity to the entire dining experience.
Now, you’re probably wondering about the cost. Well, you’ll be pleasantly surprised. Starting from just R1,895 per person sharing DBB, this place offers incredible value for money. And if you happen to be a South African resident, they have a special offer just for you. The ‘local is lekker’ discount gives you a whopping 30% off your booking if you reserve it 30 days in advance. All they ask is that you stay for a minimum of two nights. It’s a fantastic deal you wouldn’t want to miss!
