One of the most fascinating aspects of this exhibition is the diversity of the artists and their perspectives. You’ll find both renowned artists who have made a name for themselves in the art world and emerging talents who are pushing boundaries and redefining what it means to be an artist. It’s truly a celebration of artistic expression and innovation.
And that’s not all! If you are already familiar with Boschendal’s reputation for wine, food, and outdoor activities, then get ready to be pleasantly surprised by its rich art and cultural offerings. Boschendal has joined forces with the Norval Foundation in Cape Town to bring you a one-of-a-kind visitor experience that combines wine farm charm with thought-provoking exhibitions.
I’ve been amazed at how the centuries-old Manor House can be transformed into a space that showcases modern artworks from Africa. It’s like stepping into a time machine where old and new collide, and the result is a captivating conversation between the past and the present.
Now, let me tell you what you can expect to see this winter. Brace yourself for a mesmerizing array of artwork that will leave you spellbound. From stunning paintings to thought-provoking sculptures, there’s something here to captivate every imagination.
I’m excited to tell you about two incredible winter group exhibitions happening right now. First up is Horizon, an exhibition that will be open until September 27, 2022. This exhibition is all about landscapes, featuring over 30 artworks from the early 20th century to today. You’ll get to see pieces by talented artists like Maggie Laubser, JH Pierneef, David Goldblatt, and Nita Spilhaus, all from the renowned Sanlam Art Collection. The artworks themselves are as varied and breathtaking as the landscapes they portray.
The second exhibition is called Vessel, and it will be open until August 15, 2022. This exhibition explores the theme of vessels and what they represent. Just like a vessel carries precious cargo, these artworks carry deep meaning and emotions. You’ll discover a diverse range of artworks that push the boundaries of creativity and challenge our perception of what a vessel can be.
Welcome to Vessel, an incredible exhibition that takes the beauty of nature and transforms it into art. In this second exhibition, we are showcasing the talents of local ceramic artists Ben Orkin, Jade Paton, and Alistair Blair, as well as selected artists from the online Art Gazette. To add a touch of nature’s elegance, we have also included stunning artisanal flower arrangements by Mr Munro. And the best part? You have the opportunity to purchase these one-of-a-kind pieces of art.
Now, I know that fine art can sometimes seem confusing or overwhelming, but attending an exhibition like this gives you the chance to truly immerse yourself in the art world and gain a deeper understanding. That’s why I invite you to join our curators, Stefan Hundt and Clare Patrick, on a guided walkabout of the exhibition. They will personally take you through each piece, sharing the stories and ideas behind the images. It’s a unique opportunity to connect with the art on a whole new level.
Make sure to mark these walkabout dates on your calendar: July 20th, August 13th, and August 24th. Remember, booking is essential, so reserve your spot early. The walkabouts start at 11am and are completely free. It’s a chance to expand your artistic horizons without breaking the bank.
Art in the Park
Hey there! I wanted to tell you about an amazing art experience at the Boschendal Estate. Not only can you explore the indoor exhibitions at the Manor House, but there’s also some extraordinary outdoor art to discover. Right now, you’ll find impressive large-scale art pieces by artists like Kyle Morland and the renowned 20th-century South African sculptor Eduordo Villa. It’s truly something special!
To make your visit even better, they’ve also set up a fantastic art retail shop. It’s filled with unique items, including beautiful ceramics created by the talented Githan Coopoo exclusively for Boschendal. And the best part? This shop complements the farm’s existing collection of locally sourced goods. It’s like a treasure trove!
