Welcome to a classy yet laid-back bistro in The Palms Centre, where dining is uncomplicated and utterly delicious.

So, here’s the story: Rudi Minnaar, the brains behind this place, thought he was done with the whole restaurant biz when he sold off Beluga way back in 2007. He planned to kick back and enjoy some well-deserved fishing and golfing. But, let’s face it, he’s a workaholic deep down. So, it didn’t take long for him to feel that itch again. And when a friend asked him to check out the space for Bones Kitchen and Bar, well, it was like love at first sight. Rudi knew he had to jump back into the game. And here we are.

Hey there! I’m Rudi, and I’m excited to tell you about our new restaurant in Woodstock. I’ve been fortunate to co-own several successful restaurants in Cape Town and Johannesburg, which has given me a wealth of experience in the culinary world. Now, I’ve teamed up with two incredibly talented head chefs, Bella McLeod and Brendon November, to bring you a dining experience like no other.

What you can expect from us

Our philosophy is straightforward: we want to give you excellent value for your money. Woodstock may not have many options when it comes to casual dining, especially for those who appreciate fine cuisine. That’s why we’ve created an accessible and uncomplicated eatery right here in The Palms Centre.

At Bones, we prioritize the flavor of our food without any unnecessary frills or fancy toppings. Our focus is on delivering dishes that are packed with taste and devoid of distractions. Now, let’s talk about the significance behind our restaurant’s name, which may lead you astray if you assume it has something to do with our diverse selection of meat cuts.

Bones are the foundation of any good stock, which in turn forms the basis of any remarkable sauce. Therefore, the name Bones represents the core essence of a satisfying meal and the straightforward approach we take in crafting each dish.

What should you try?

For starters, I highly recommend our carpaccio. At Bones, we’ve elevated this classic dish by infusing it with a burst of umami flavors, combining sweetness and saltiness in perfect symphony.

Next, don’t miss out on the Parmesan bonbons with mushroom ragout. These little bites of delight feature melted cheese wrapped in a crispy golden shell, offering the ultimate indulgence.

If you can’t make up your mind when it comes to food, you’ll struggle to choose between the delicious options at this restaurant. They offer dishes like pork belly with butternut and beans, or the highly recommended wild mushroom risotto.

But Bones is more than just a steakhouse. They also have a surprising selection of fresh seafood, including daily specials. It’s not your typical dining experience.

For my main course, I went with the prawn pasta. It came with a chili-cream sauce that was both delicate and flavorful. The angel-hair pasta perfectly soaked up the sauce, creating a burst of flavor in every bite. It was one of the best pasta dishes I’ve ever had.

My companion chose the glazed BBQ salmon, and I couldn’t resist trying a bite. The fish was perfectly cooked, with a crispy skin and tender meat. It was served with a delicious Asian-style BBQ sauce and vegetables.

I absolutely love crème brûlée, so when I heard about Bones’ rooibos version, I just had to try it. And let me tell you, it did not disappoint! The dessert is served with an orange crumb, charred rosemary, and a silky rooibos syrup drizzled on top. It’s absolutely flawless.

Things to Keep in Mind

• Breakfast is available from 8am to 11am.
• If you happen to be there between 4pm and 7pm, make sure not to miss out on the Pick-a-Stick charcoal grill. You can grill your choice of chicken, pork, fish, meat, cheese, veggies, or prawns over an open grill.
• They offer Wi-Fi and have plug points available.
• If you’re driving, you can park securely undercover at The Palms Centre. And the best part? Parking is free if you leave the center after 9pm.
