Lebanese food is like a treasure trove of different spices and dishes spread out on a table. I was really excited to try it all. But then Ghenwa said to me, ‘You guys from South Africa don’t know anything about Lebanese food!’ That’s when I realized I needed to get ready for a whole new world of flavors that I had never experienced before.
‘Finding pure tahini is such a challenge here, some of it has peanuts mixed in, can you believe it?’ She waves her hands excitedly as she talks. Lebanese cuisine has become my new favorite kind of eccentric, leaving Italian food in the dust. Let me walk you through the basics of my homeland’s culinary traditions.
I’m Ghenwa Steingcaszner, a maître chef born and raised in Lebanon. I now run Ghenwa’s Culinary Club at Lourensford Wine Estate in South Africa, a place my husband Geza and I fell in love with on our very first visit.
My passion lies in conserving food through organic and healthful eating. Right outside my culinary club, you’ll find a small orchard of citrus trees and a few raised vegetable beds. This way, I can source fresh ingredients straight from my own garden.
When it comes to food, Lebanese cuisine stands out for its ability to provide nourishing meals that are not only delicious but also good for your health. I can personally vouch for the benefits of this type of diet, as I have experienced an increase in energy and overall well-being since incorporating Lebanese dishes into my meals.
Ghenwa is a prime example of the exquisite flavors and health benefits that Lebanese cuisine has to offer. If you’re looking for a way to elevate your culinary experience and nourish your body, Ghenwa is the answer. Their menu is filled with a wide variety of dishes that will satisfy even the most discerning palate.
One of the key factors that sets Lebanese cuisine apart is its focus on fresh and wholesome ingredients. The use of olive oil, a staple in Mediterranean diets, not only adds a delicious flavor but also provides essential nutrients. Additionally, Lebanese cuisine incorporates a colorful array of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, ensuring that you’re getting a balanced and nutritious meal.
But it’s not just about the ingredients; it’s also about the way they’re prepared. Lebanese cooking methods, such as grilling and baking, allow the flavors to shine while maintaining the nutritional integrity of the food. The use of herbs and spices adds depth and complexity to the dishes, further enhancing your dining experience.
Furthermore, Lebanese cuisine places a strong emphasis on communal dining. Sharing a meal with loved ones is not only a way to bond but also a way to enjoy the pleasures of food together. The warm and inviting atmosphere of Ghenwa makes it the perfect place to gather with friends and family and indulge in a memorable dining experience.
So, if you’re looking for a unique and healthy dining experience, I highly recommend exploring the wonders of Lebanese cuisine at Ghenwa. Treat yourself to a delicious meal that will leave you feeling energized, rejuvenated, and ready to take on the world.
Ghenwa is here to show us the art of folding a Lamb Sambousek.
Sitting across from Ghenwa at the kitchen counter, she works her magic, taking you on a journey through a lavish feast. From the refreshing Tabouleh (a flavorful blend of parsley and chopped tomatoes), to the creamy Baba Ghanoush (a delightful eggplant puree), and the savory Lamb Sambousek (a pastry filled with mince and pine nuts), you’ll learn all of the simple steps that will surely become a part of your cooking repertoire.
But this isn’t just a workshop where you learn how the food is made. You also get to savor it yourself. The mezze is spread out on the table, accompanied by a delicious wine. You get to experience the joy of eating together, the way it was meant to be.
Imagine a lively scene with Arabian Music filling the air, creating an atmosphere of joy and amusement. People are engaged in light-hearted conversations, constantly laughing and occasionally joining in a fun-filled belly dancing lesson taught by Ghenwa, who happens to be a talented belly dance instructor.
What adds to the excitement is the unpredictable menu. Every time you visit, you’re in for a delightful surprise because they don’t stick to a fixed menu. This element of surprise makes each visit unique, and time seems to fly by unnoticed. Before you realize it, you’ll find yourself yearning for their incredible Baba Ghanoush, eagerly planning your next visit to satisfy your cravings.
So, you’ve heard of Baba Ghanoush, huh? But do you actually know what it is? Let’s dive in and find out!
When it comes to Lebanese cuisine, falafel is often the dish that comes to mind. But did you know that Lebanese cuisine offers so much more? There are countless other delicious dishes to explore!
