Discover the Magic of MCC on Cap Classique Day
Hey there! Have you heard about Cap Classique Day? It’s a special day dedicated to celebrating the magnificent wine known as Methode Cap Classique (MCC). Today, I’ll take you on a journey to uncover all the incredible things you need to know about this exquisite South African sparkling wine.
So, what exactly is MCC? Well, buckle up because here comes the fun part! MCC stands for Methode Cap Classique, a term used to describe sparkling wine that is crafted using the traditional Champagne method. Just like Champagne, MCC undergoes a second fermentation in the bottle, resulting in those delightful bubbles we all love. It’s like a sparkling symphony for your taste buds!
Now, let’s dive into the fascinating world of MCC and discover why it’s such a beloved beverage. First and foremost, the quality of MCC is exceptional. South Africa boasts the perfect terroir, with its breathtaking vineyards and favorable climate, providing the ideal conditions for growing the grapes used in MCC production. Each sip transports you to the picturesque landscapes of the Cape Winelands.
Not only is the taste of MCC outstanding, but it also holds a special place in South African history. MCC has been produced in the country for over three centuries, making it a true symbol of tradition and heritage. When you enjoy a glass of MCC, you’re savoring a rich legacy that has been passed down through generations.
But MCC is not just about history and tradition; it’s also about innovation and creativity. South African winemakers have embraced the art of MCC production and continuously push the boundaries to bring you new and exciting flavors. From vibrant and zesty to elegant and creamy, there’s an MCC for every palate.
So, how can you join in the celebration of Cap Classique Day? Simple! Grab a bottle of your favorite MCC, gather your loved ones, and toast to the magic of this extraordinary wine. Whether you’re enjoying a sunny picnic or celebrating a special occasion, MCC adds a touch of elegance and sparkle to any moment.
Now that you know the essence of MCC, it’s time to explore the world of Cap Classique. Get ready for a journey filled with effervescence, beauty, and joy. Cheers to Cap Classique Day and the wonders of MCC!
Can you imagine a more perfect drink to welcome the spring season than a cool and revitalizing glass of Cap Classique? I can’t think of anything better! And did you know that in South Africa, 1st September is officially celebrated as Cap Classique Day? It’s true!
No matter when you decide to pop open a bottle of champagne, MCC is the perfect choice for any time and any event. And I can say this with confidence because I know what I’m talking about.
I’m Heidi Duminy, the Principal of the Cape Wine Academy and a Cape Wine Master. These are highly respected qualifications in the world of wine. I believe that Cap Classique is a wine that can be enjoyed at any time of the day. Whether it’s breakfast, lunch, or dinner, or even in cocktails, it’s the most versatile wine you can find.
If you’re not sure what MCC stands for, it’s short for Méthode Cap Classique or the traditional Cape method of making sparkling wine. The French reserve the term Champagne for sparkling wine made using their traditional process. But don’t worry, South Africa got back at France by obtaining Protected Designation of Origin status for Rooibos in 2021!
Spain has its own version known as Cava, while Italy is famous for Prosecco. In Germany, they simply call their sparkling wine Sekt, although the processes used to make Prosecco and Sekt are not as complex or risky as those used for Champagne or Cap Classique.
When it comes to visiting Klein Roosboom, you have the exciting opportunity to try something unique: sabrage a bottle of MCC. It’s like a fancy way of opening a bottle of sparkling wine with a sword!
In 1971, South African winemakers decided to shake things up and created Cap Classique. Instead of just putting gas in the wine, they used careful winemaking techniques and a second fermentation in the bottle to make it extra special. This process gives Cap Classique its refined bubbles and complex flavors.
The Durbanville Wine Valley is super excited for Spring and Cap Classique Day on September 1. They want to show off the amazing wines made in Durbanville, which is known for being one of the coolest wine regions in South Africa, both in terms of temperature and style.
‘Durbanville Cap Classique wines are always winners in competitions, and there’s a good reason for that,’ says Natasha de Villiers, the Manager of Durbanville Wine Valley. ‘The combination of cool weather, great soil, plenty of sunshine, and ocean breezes sets our vineyards apart. And when you add in the expertise that comes from generations of winemakers in Durbanville, it’s easy to see why our local Cap Classique wines are so beloved.’
This reputation is further reinforced by the fact that nearly every winery in the region produces this style of wine. Bloemendal, for instance, just launched its first Cap Classique wine this year, and Diemersdal will soon be releasing their own Cap Classique for the first time as well.’
