1. It’s a chance to feel amazing, both mentally and physically. When you push yourself beyond your comfort zone and conquer a challenge like this, the sense of accomplishment is incredible. You’ll feel a rush of adrenaline as you reach the peak, knowing that you’ve achieved something truly extraordinary.
Join me on the Cathedral Peak Challenge and experience the thrill of conquering nature’s mightiest peak. Whether you choose to walk or trail run the 20.7km journey, you’ll be filled with an incredible sense of achievement.
Reaching the majestic summit of Cathedral Peak, standing proudly at an altitude of 3005m, will leave you awe-struck. The breathtaking view that stretches beneath you will be a testament to your determination and perseverance.
2. A Cause Worth Every Step
In 2017/2018, I, Mrs. South Africa, Nicole Capper, will be taking on the challenge of climbing to the summit once again. This time, I will be leading a group of 67 individuals.
When you sign up for the race, you have the option to add R100 to your R250 entry fee. This additional contribution will go towards buying sanitary pads for young girls who are unable to afford them. These pads are essential for keeping girls in school, which is part of the Caring4Girls program.
Did you know that young girls in impoverished communities miss about 50 days of school each year because they don’t have access to feminine hygiene products? This leads to an alarming gap in education. According to UNICEF, women who receive an education tend to be healthier, earn more income, have fewer children, and provide better care and education to their own children. This emphasizes the importance of girls not missing school.
3. You can join a team to tackle the summit
Have you heard of the Cathedral Peak Challenge? It’s this amazing event where adventurers climb to the top of Cathedral Peak. I had the chance to conquer this mountain as Mrs South Africa 2017/2018, and let me tell you, it was quite the experience! But now, I’m doing it all over again, and I want you to join me.
As an advocate for women’s health, I believe in the power of raising funds and awareness for important causes. That’s why I’m calling out to 67 brave individuals to join me in this challenge. Together, we can make a difference and reach new heights.
4. A tough ascent and a worthy cause
Imagine this: as you conquer Cathedral Peak, a challenging trail that tests your running or hiking skills, there’s a team of 67 brave individuals climbing Mount Kilimanjaro alongside you, all united by a common cause.
And guess who’s leading this incredible expedition? None other than Sibusiso Vilane, a remarkable individual who has conquered the three Poles challenge – the South Pole, the North Pole, and Mount Everest. Vilane is also the first black African to achieve this extraordinary feat.
But that’s not all. The funds raised from this monumental double summit will be used to support the Caring4Girls programme, making a difference in the lives of countless girls.
5. Did I mention there’s even prize money?
Hey there! I wanted to share some exciting news with you. Cathedral Peak Hotel has this awesome event called the Cathedral Peak Challenge, and they’re offering a whopping R25000 as prize money for each of the three race categories! How cool is that?
The categories are for the fastest male, female, and mixed team of two. Last year, the incredible Christiaan Greyling set the route record, conquering the peak in just 2 hours and 29 minutes. Can you imagine that? Insane!
Now, let me tell you about this year’s challenge—it’s going to be incredible. The race takes place on Mandela Day, which makes it even more special. This event is the second one out of a series of five Cathedral Peak Challenge races. So, you can expect some fierce competition and loads of excitement!
6. Here’s an awesome perk—you can save on the cost of your accommodation!
Hey there! Wanna hear something cool? You don’t have to stay at the Cathedral Peak Hotel to join in the Challenge. Yep, that’s right! Even if you decide not to bunk there, you’ll still be eligible for a sweet 25% discount on your stay while you conquer the Challenge. Talk about a win-win!
Oh, and guess what? The fun doesn’t stop there! There’s also a mini version of the Challenge. Yep, you heard me! It’s like a bite-sized version of the main event, perfect for those who want a taste of the action without all the bells and whistles. So, whether you’re up for the whole shebang or just a little taste, we’ve got you covered!
If you can’t climb all the way to the top but still want to join in, you can take on The Cathedral Peak Challenge Mini. This shorter route follows the same path but stops just below the peak at the Base Camp. It’s a flexible, unscheduled hike that you can do on any day from June 1st to September 30th, as long as the weather is good.
