5 spots to find good food wine and music this Winter

Hey there! I want to share with you some awesome places in and around Cape Town where you can enjoy delicious food, great wine, and awesome music. Let’s dive in!

1. Miko at Mont Rochelle, Franschhoek

5 spots to find good food wine and music this Winter

The service at Miko restaurant, located in Mont Rochelle, is absolutely outstanding. You won’t be disappointed! They have some exciting news for all the music lovers out there. Miko restaurant will be hosting a series of live music evenings featuring the talented and Emmy-nominated musician, James Stewart.

Mark your calendars for the next live music evening on Wednesday, August 22nd from 7 to 9pm. And don’t worry if you can’t make it, because there’s one more chance to experience this incredible event before the season ends. The final live music evening will take place on Tuesday, September 25th.

Let me tell you about my recent visit to Miko restaurant in July. I started my meal with the mouthwatering Cape Malay spiced prawns, priced at R150. They were served with a delightful combination of tomato and grapefruit tartar, mango atchar aioli, and fresh coriander. My husband opted for the pumpkin and sage soup, priced at R85, which was accompanied by a chestnut tapenade, garlic wafers, and crispy kale, creating a perfect balance of flavors.

When I visited Miko, I had the pleasure of trying their mouth-watering dishes. Let me tell you about our delightful culinary experience.

For the main course, my husband opted for the ‘simply grilled’ beef fillet. It was cooked to perfection and served with a side of rosemary salted skinny fries. The combination of flavors was simply delicious.

I, on the other hand, chose the Franschhoek salmon trout. It was accompanied by a beetroot purée, tenderstem broccoli, poached egg, and lime crème fraîche. The flavors harmonized beautifully and made for a truly exquisite dish. Of course, I couldn’t resist getting a side of rosemary salted fries to go along with it.

Now, I know that fish is typically not paired with red wine, but we decided to go against convention. We ordered a bottle of the 2014 Mont Rochelle Syrah, and it turned out to be a great choice. The wine perfectly complemented our meal and added to the overall enjoyment of the evening.

To end our culinary adventure on a sweet note, we each indulged in a chocolate fondant. This decadent dessert featured a moist and rich cake with a luscious chocolate center. It was served with a scoop of ice cream and a garnish of raspberry fruit leather. The combination of textures and flavors was the perfect finale to our meal.

If you’re looking for a memorable dining experience, I highly recommend Miko. Their attention to detail, excellent flavor pairings, and welcoming atmosphere make for a truly outstanding meal. Whether you’re celebrating a special occasion or simply looking to treat yourself, you won’t be disappointed.

I had such a great time! The music wasn’t too loud, and James Stewart’s performance of Sting’s songs was incredible. The staff at Miko were also super attentive. If you want to make a reservation, you can email functions@montrochelle.virgin.com or call 021 876 2770.
